The best bookseries you've ever read?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 2:58 pm

Right now I am reading a Song of Ice and Fire series. So far it's one my favorite series. I'm really enjoying the 3rd book in the series, a Storm of Swords. I also really enjoyed the first 3 Dark Tower books.

So what is the best book you've ever read?

Pretty anything that David Gemmel wrote.

But specifically, his Waylander trilogy......best books ever. And he is not an author that shys away from killing important characters, which makes reading his books really good.

I have read too many books/series to name an absolute all-time favorite. Right now I am reading A Storm of Swords and I am enjoying it but I need a break from the fantasy genre after this one. I think I will try Dean Koontz next because I have never read anything by him. Without Remorse by Tom Clancy is always a good choice and I have read that one more than once. The Lord of the Rings is up there too, naturally. The Shining was awesome (never saw the movie) as was The Stand, both by Stephen King. under the Dome wasn't quite as good as the other two I just listed but an average book by King is generally a lot better than most books.

My favorite pony is pretty much anything by Neil Gaiman; especially Stardust and Neverwhere. I'm also a big Terry Pratchett fan.

Harry Potter, no doubt, and not ashamed to say it. Best book series I've ever read.

Harry Potter
I'm not sure it's the best series I've ever read but it sure delighted me. LOTR was good. The Wheel of Time was quite good.

The Death Gate Cycle.

Nothing else I've ever read tops it, doesn't matter the genre. I don't think anything will ever beat it out for #1 on my list.

I really liked the Dark Elf trilogy by R.A Salvatore. I wish it could be made into a movie.

The best series I've read is James Alan Gardner's League of Peoples novels, which is incredible. Not only is it some of the best science fiction that I've read but he done an amazing job with first person narrative.

Ellis Peters' (Edith Pargeter's) Cadfael novels are a close second.

Watership Down.
Tigana.
The Stand.

...a series...I don't know anymore. Asimov's Elijah/R. Daneel series. Foster's Pip n Flinx series. Chalker's Well of Souls series. There's a lot of them I love a lot but don't know if I'd call them "best." I tend to prefer stand-alone novels. But if Doyle's Sherlock Holmes counts, I'd use that. :P

Yeah...I read most of the others too, but that one was the best one imo.

Dune, The Stand, Watership Down, The Silmarillion, Dark Tower, ASoIaF and much of the Horus Heresy series qualify (especially A Thousand Sons and The Outcast Dead). There's more, but I can't think of them right now. Shouldn't have read the thread first, it has affected my judgement too much.

I've never read a whole series, apart from the Hannibal Lecter books and the first 3 Harry Potter books, so I can't really say. I've nearly finished the first Hunger Games book, so once I finish all 3 it could be my second complete trilogy.

The Goosebumps series, ionly because it's the only series of books I've read a book from.
I don't really do reading unless it's a news paper with an interesting story, or one I disagreee with.
