The best fix at the moment.

You do realize that only three of your shortcut command line settings are duplicated within the rageconfig.cfg? Also, for anyone using this file, please adjust the settings for VRAM and Anistropy to fit your rig. Settings to high will be just like you setting any of your other games to high. Basically, review each setting within the cfg file and if you understand what it does in relation to your normal gaming settings adjust as required. For instance, if you have a 2gb card, obviously you can set the VideoRAM to 2048 versus 1024. You may also find Anistropy set to 16 is ok. Consider enabling Threaded Rendering as well.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy Rage

Yes I know but I have them like that and lets just say I won't take any chances, it's best that you do as I did. I can now play the game with no problem and texture popping is almost gone.. almost is still far away but you get the idea.

My cfg and startup command line are different. The cfg is basically identical, very little difference; however, my startup command line is simply the cache file redirect. And like you, I have no issues graphically, except as you said only a slight texture popping.

Thanks OP - this fixed my CTD on WinXP/Dual Core/nVidia gtx480. Plus the game looks great with the 8k textures.

I did make the following changes for my system
Leave all nVidia Control Panel settings, including vsync at defaults, (application controlled, etc) except for enable triple buffering.
Set the seta com_videoRam correctly
seta r_useRenderThread "1"
Set the seta vt_maxPPF correctly: "8" for dual/quad core, "16" for 8thread (i7)

Also added the +vt_maxPPF to the rage launch options.

Also turned off Steam Community in-Game

Nice find with the maxPPF, I didn't understand what that did, still don't, but at least I know the settings I need now.

Thanks

While far from perfect, the game is now somewhat playable for me now with this fix. So thank you. Biggest issue for me is framerate and still some slow texture loading.

"C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\"

Could anyone translate this for XP?

C:\Documents and Settings\username\...

There is a "id Software" folder inside My Documents\My Games. It contains a folder named Rage, that has one files video.cfg.
