The civil war quests are BORING

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:26 pm

I finished the stormcloaks a long time ago, and recently started the empire side with a new character, and I am having to force myself through it. So boring. It seems like they didn't put any effort into it at all. Anyone agree or disagree?

This is a picture of all quests.

They svck!

They aren't the main quest line. They are just another of the many extra side line quests. learn to be grateful

The Civil War quests are greatly improved with the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, which fixes an issue with the leveling multiplier. Without the patch, only lower level enemies spawn, so the encounters are too easy if the player is above, say level 10-15.

Nhf, but you should learn to think with your head.

I should be grateful for bad designed quests that are just placeholders!?

They're so trivial. Random trivial task, random trivial task, attack fort, repeat.

I quite liked the initiation tasks (retrieving the horn, killing an ice wraith, etc.), but I think the potential of the fort attacks was wasted. They seemed mundane and lacking any significance, and even taking over the rival faction's HOMELAND wasn't satisfying and lacked emotion or epicness. I've just stormed into Solitude, the unofficial capital of Skyrim, shouldn't I have an entire battalion defending the place? They could have had archers in impossible-to-reach towers to cater to those of us that liked ranged combat.

I do have to say, though, that the Battle For Whiterun quest was an amazing cinematic moment and was a high point of either sides of the questline for me. Shame they didn't carry those qualities on with the rest of the civil war quests.

Don't tell me this! I am just about to start the quest on the side of the Stormcloaks.

Don't worry...it's not THAT bad. Actually I found it fun because I am loyal to Ulfric so it made it all more rewarding to help him win.

Well it is what it is. Yes the quests can seem thin, when you consider the size of the game, you would think they would create better stories/more varied.

The voice acting is limited, considering the talent in Oblivion which had Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart etc... Skyrim gets Christopher Plummer, estamblished and brilliant, but it would be excellent to have a few others.

Ah, but will us Xbox users get this option?

Could you please let the devs know that this is a serious issue with the Xbox game? The Civil War quests are terrible at the moment. As you said, above levels 10-15 it is just depressing. You just slaughter enemies with a few hits, and take barely any damage. There are no magic wielders in the enemies, while you are there as the only one blasting all types of spells. It makes no sense and made me stop playing. And this is on Master difficulty!!

On Master difficulty, the Civil war quests should scale. It would really improve the game - please tell us something can be done about this for Xbox users. It is sad that Bethesda's Xbox games tend to be much worse than the PC versions because basic changes like this are not implemented.

This goes into my topic of how Skyrim lacks a lot of emotional or deep quests.

Whiterun
and

Everything else just felt stiff and uninspired- not to metion pretty and short overall.

Totally boring and not worth playing. You basicly conquer fortress after fortress and kill respawning clones....absolutely boring stuff. Both questlines are trash.

Well personally, I like them myself but.. after reading on another forum what someone said about the quests basically being copy/pastes of each other, I'll agree that they could have been different. Being that the Imperial Legion is part of an Empire, they could have chosen a more secretive method of quelling a rebellion. For the Stormcloaks, it makes sense to
Spoiler
kill an enemy courier then alter what the documents say that he's carrying, then deliver them to the enemy officer
since they are the rebellion, but not so much the other way around.

I do agree though that taking the Forts and the ending were cool parts though. I've never done the end of the Imperial Legion though.

I didn't mind the civil war quest. They did get a little repetitive but I still had fun.

I'd like the civil war to be a bit more dynamic. Although the war apparently continues, there are no more battles to fight. This was a big disappointment for me, as I enjoyed being a part of something (Imperial Legion woo) but I was suddenly cut off after the climix. It'd be cool if after the quest line was finished, you could get radiant quests from General Tullius or Ulfric Stormcloak to defend/attack forts or even meet the enemy in a pitched battle over hill or landmark. This would spice up the game a bit and it would be wonderful if cavalry would be used in the battles after the 1.6 patch.

Just my opinion, but I found it strange. Here Bethesda put so much effort into setting up the civil war. And they did it very well. But when it came to actually executing the civil war in the game, it was probably the lamest questline in the entire game.

The set it up beautifully, then failed to carry it through.

The only missions I like were Battle for Whiterun and Battle for Solitude/Windhelm. It feels like you're leading an army to conquer a city while the rest are cheesy fort takeovers.

I found even those battles to be rather appalling. I mean, seriously, as sieges go, they were almost as bad as the forts. Whiterun's defenses are pathetic. And the rest it's just a matter of rushing the gates. If they couldn't figure out how to do a proper or decent siege, they should have left them out entirely.

Hey, I liked the fort battles. But I made a little Meta-game out of it. I played a Healer, and only attacked in self-defense. My main focus was keeping the vastly outgunned Imperial Soldiers alive.

I could definitely see how the fort takeovers would be boring if you went in as a level 50 character and arc-cleaved through everyone in 1 hit.

Aside from that, I really liked a lot of the Imperial's other quests, but that's probably because I was playing an imperial Nightblade. So all the sabotage, subterfuge and whatnot played right into that.

The Battle for Whiterun was kinda flawed.

I mean why would you even waste time lowering a draw bridge when you can easily enter the walls with a ramp going inside?
