The Courier's Age

18-65

It's so the courier can never retire, allowing him to be forever called The Courier.

So now we can all happily play an old guy, with a face like Nathan, or Herbert D.D.

I figure someone who has managed to survive long enough to reach old age would be able to tell a bad delivery that will get them almost killed when they see it. They simply wouldn't take the run. So I'm going with someone too young to know better, age of 25 at the oldest.

Then people would choose skinny body type with 10 Strenght. Makes no sense. But if your body type changed by the amount of Strenght points you have, that would be swell

That's there choice to make, I wouldn't want my character's appearance to be determined by my stats as I want to create a character that looks the way I want, and play a character with the stats and abilities I want to use, if I don't appearance to reflect my stats, that should be my choice, if you want to create characters that look as strong as they are, you could just, oh, I don't know, choose the appropriate body type, as long as the choice is there, it's pretty easy.

But I'd imagine that age will be handled lik in Oblivion, in other words, when creating your character, you'll also have an age slider when choosing your facial appearance, where you place it determines how old your character looks, so most likely, age is purely cosmetic and won't change anything about gameplay.

Or, it could be that they had a job, got fired or layed off or their boss got killed so they had to take anything that would pay.

Until they re-texture every armor and article of clothing to fit the different sized bodies, this is not going to happen. There have been many discussions about this and the technical difficulties in other threads. I suggest you find one of those and we will talk about age in this thread. Many modders have chimed in about the issues surrounding this.

well thats a poor argument in general because we don't know the context of the delivery. it could be something the courier deemed personally important, or otherwise. there could be a number of valid reasons why the courier would take on a dangerous mission, not just inexperience.

Really wanted to make a grizzled old merc vet or evil Granny character type in FO3 so the age slider is music to my ears.

Hopefully Bethesda's next FO includes different weights and heights, virtual me is in too good a shape and making me look bad.

It's 16-45, I think, How would 60+ years old call you a kid if you're 60+?

Alright as much as adding difrent waits would be cool, there wouldnt be a fat one. Think about it. A wastelander with little food and is struggling to even find a meal a day. How could they be fat? Now maybe a slight chub or anerxia, but not super fat or skinny.

So, if we were to put on a revealing article of clothing, and we were old, we would look young?

Can't we choose our age in this game?

Surely it's up the player's choice. In fallout 3 your default age was 18 but you could design a character who looked to be in his 50s and role-play as someone else.

Mine personally will be a bit older than I am so probably mid-late 20s

I agree with that. I'd want my character to resemble me, so I'd want my character to be about 19, but I don't want that to effect my stats at all. I'd say just make your stats how you want them, and if you want them to be affected by how you think of your character (i.e. if you're a older person, say 50s+, your perception might be low, or your strength might be low, while charisma or intelligence might be high). But leave it for the players to decide, not the game itself.

So one of the videos featured in the recent X-Play shows the age slider in action. It doesn't give a specific year of age making it extremely similar to Oblivion's age slider. I'm more than happy with the results.

Warning, following video may contain spoilers. Go to about 27 seconds in, you may have to do some pause/unpause action as it goes by fairly fast.

you're definitely right that many wouldn't be too keen on it, but i think it's a worthwile risk. if it was forced on you, then the game would be built around that and you'd see a more specific, focused game, making it a more unique game as well. the franchise has never forced you to be anything, but i think something major is gonna have to change to keep the franchise fresh. and i'm not saying force a playing style, just what the protagonist is.

i dunno, maybe i'll start a thread about it, see what people think.

I would HATE to be forced into a box like that. Automatically having the majority of NPCs in the game world react unfavorably to the player would be really unenjoyable.

I personally hope Obsidian follows the example of Project Beauty and things like the Saram hair mod and puts those in New Vegas. No reason not to, and it'd make the game way better.

I know 'skinny' guys that are hard as nails, and very strong as well.

Size does not equal strength, but you do have a point and i understand what you mean. :foodndrink:

The cut-off age doesn't even matter. Either way the oldest playable age will still look old and wrinkled. The question is whether or not we will be able to use the 16 year old body type. It sure would add a lot of role-playability if you could.

Old characters can be fun. It was convenient in Oblivion when I made a necromancer. His look really fit the role and just like a lot of movie villains demonstrate, you have to be alive longer to become that corrupt.

Shouldn't be 16+. 18+ Would be better so as to not offend anyone that complains about minors being killed by raiders or something.
