The Courier's Age

Post » Tue Apr 05, 2011 10:25 am

Hello everyone, just curious as to how old or young you can make the courier? I know quite a few people have been able to play an introductory demo, so maybe they could shed some light on this.
I'm really hoping it will cause actual texture changes on the face, otherwise i see it as kinda moot if it's just a number on a stat page. I'm gunning for 50-55.

oh and i'm basing my knowledge off of the fallout wiki. So far I haven't seen any concrete info on changing age, so i could be wrong entirely on this.

I'm hoping there will be more (many) hairstyles. Stuff that looks normal on people that aren't caucasian would be great. And more facial hair...
In a perfect world we'd get to select a body type... but that isn't happening in this game.

This is a very good question, and I'm excited to see this.. I'll give her a test when I get my pre-ordered game in, first day. ;)

I'm sure I read 16-65 in OXM. Like in the originals.

i agree, i'm always pleasantly surprised when i see fat npc's in videogames....kind of an odd thing to be pleased about, but still

this is wishful thinking but hopefully the body textures change as well. i remember the strangeness of seeing an oblivion character with the wrinkled face of a 70 year old but the killer body of 20 year old.

i was also jealous of the dirt and grime on raider's bodies, and the tribal paintings on the tribals in point lookout. Both would be a very nice customizable option.

And to those making Fallout 4: a main character exclusively being a ghoul. that would be very bold, gutsy, and very great. a fallout world tailored to react to a ghoul. off topic i suppose

A lot of people don't like ghouls. I think a choice to become a ghoul would be best, instead of forcing people to.

Sure hope age affects dialogue this time around. (Hey young lady!/Hey, madame!)
And that some form of restriction is put upon the facial sliders, so that I can't create a 60ish gunslinger without any wrinkles.

Then people would choose skinny body type with 10 Strenght. Makes no sense. But if your body type changed by the amount of Strenght points you have, that would be swell

you're definitely right that many wouldn't be too keen on it, but i think it's a worthwile risk. if it was forced on you, then the game would be built around that and you'd see a more specific, focused game, making it a more unique game as well. the franchise has never forced you to be anything, but i think something major is gonna have to change to keep the franchise fresh. and i'm not saying force a playing style, just what the protagonist is.

i dunno, maybe i'll start a thread about it, see what people think.

*Shudders*
As long as age affects perks. But only because I don't want to see a Hugh Heffner in the Fallout world, using "Lady Killer".

No wait, That gives me an Idea for my second play-through.
Nuttyness aside, I think it will probably be 18 - 65 ( or 75).

It would be nice to have the option of age (filth covered bodies would probably be hard, but presumably it would just be a case of texture swap the longer you're out without sleeping?). In Fallout 3, you generally had to stick a beard on them to make them look old. I hope the courier is of indeterminate age.

I really hope it's 16 and up with the age. I don't care what the cut off is as long as it's obscenely old but it should be as young as 16.

Well the courier is wearing a facemask and goggles so Benny is probably just assuming because he's so egotistical.

Well, I just think they went a little slim on the dialogue there, it looks more like a burlap sack over the head to me.

Almost positive it's 18-65. I'm going to stick with around 18 or 20.

A bag with eyeholes maybe. I'll go for that endearment theory.

Hello everyone, just curious as to how old or young you can make the courier?....I'm really hoping it will cause actual texture changes on the face,

The Face Gen is going to be the same as it was in Oblivion and Fallout 3.

In Oblivion there is an Age Slider and it does change the face from youthful to wrinkled and saggy as you move it up. The only reason the age slider was removed in FO3 is the story basically had you come out as a teenager. There was no reason to use it. The Courier can be any age you want. In Oblivion, the slider could make you look from about 18 to mid to upper 60's. With tweaks, you could make someone look a bit older or younger.

As to Gameplay effects, I would suppose you would have to dial that up with SPECIAL, like reduced Agility, increased Intelligence, reduced Perception increased Charisma for example for a dashing older gentleman. Or however you see it. It would be nice if there were some differences in dialouge based on age, but I am not sure the game needs to make a big deal of it. Unless they want to throw in Senior Discounts at all the shops.

It is a catch phrase like when the Joker says "Tell me something, my friend. You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" as he likes to say to his victims. What does that mean? "It's not your day kid" is much easier for the victim to understand. It's not cricket to kill someone when they are confused.
