The Deathlords in Skuldafn Are [censored]s

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:53 am

These Deathlords in Skuldafn are out of control. They're blasting me all over the place with their pseudo shout, but are nothing more than an extreme annoyance because they do so little damage to me with their physical attacks. This area took me 10x longer than it should have due to being battered around and tossed off ramparts constantly. Bethesda should have put far fewer Deathlords in this area, or made their shout less effective--I'd prefer more challenging enemies to these numbskulls.

Shouts can be dodged. They have a 'wind up' that lets you know they are about to shout you. If you're a mage, ward spells can keep you from getting tumbled. For archers, a nice crit will do it (but having distance between you and the target is best). For sword and board, shield-bashing is the way to go.

i agree. At higher levels, you are basically invincible.
These deathlords deal little damage to you, and you do little damage to them because their armor and health is too high, not to mention they fus ro dah around everytime.
I dont mind the shouts, but the fact they take a dam long time to kill is very irritating.

As a dual wielder I rush in during the windup and try to one shot them. Smithing + enchantment works wonders.

I had no problem with them the last time I went there (yesterday). I just agree that they have too much health.

Never really had a problem with them, even with their health bar being big I never found it problematic. But to be fair I practically never get hit with shouts so thats just me.

Just try to drop them faster or use your own shouts

Using Unrelenting Force while they are 'winding up' will usually cancel the shout.

magical wards block shouts, if you're able to use em.

I had a hell of a time in there, I use pretty weak armor and was killed a bunch of time. I used Sanguine Rose alot and ran away a ton.

They should put the ones with Ebony Bows in. That should make for a faster paced combat.

Deathlords can deal heavy damage with 2-Handed Ebony Weapons.. Died a few times cause of Deathlords at level 81... I personally like the challenge they give to me.

If you've advanced far enough in the MQ to get your first shout then the shouts deployed by others against you should have little effect - as the Grey Beards demonstrate. This suggests the OP hasn't started the MQ yet.

The OP is in Skuldafn. It's the 2nd to last location in the MQ.

I HATE those f-in deathlords, everytime i encounter multiple lords they spam fus ro dah where i cant move...my guy gets ragdolled over and over as i get hit and killed by arrows

they really need to change their shout timer...at lvl 65 i encounter deathlords in every dungeon and dread exploring them because of their dam shouts

Call me crazy, but aren't Deathlords supposed to be tough enemies? Shouldn't making your way through Skuldafin, Alduin's personal fortress be something a little more challenging than a walk in the park? How crappy would it be if you arrived there only to find it populated with mudcrabs and wolves?

I like Skuldafin because it is actually challenging (unless you have Mayhem and/or Twin Souls).

Yes, they should be extremely tough and they are. I had an amazing challenge my first time through. This time, I'm wondering how well stealth works because this time, I'm not in armor, only cloth. I have the Invisibility spell and sneak is at 100. Some other skills are a lot higher this time too. Has anyone tried Stealth? How'd it go? I believe you have to get through there fairly quickly or they keep respawning and you'll just be fighting forever. :tes:

Went Skuldafn two days ago for the 1st time. Was at level 50 and I can only say one thing. At least they didn't die from single strikes like the rest of enemies in Skyrim.

being tough is fine but spamming their fus ro dah is ridiculous. I wish i had a vid of the last time i encountered 3 deathlords at once, i got shouted and ragdolled, just started the standing up animation then shouted and ragdolled again..this happened over and over, each lord shouting right after the other until finally 1 of them decided to put me out of misery with an ebony arrow to the head. I instantly get angry every time i see one now and im on xbox so i cant mod them to shout less...beth really needs to fix so they only shout once per fight or within a reasonable break, at least give me a chance to stand up between shouts

Im angry now just thinkin about it :P

The Spellbreaker and Slow Time are your friend here. Have to watch the deathlords that hang back and pin-cushion you with their ebony bows though. Although not sure how many of them were here. They will end your day if you're not paying attention. Wish I could go back there but being on the PS3 alas it was a one time adventure without starting a new character.

The problem is that it wasn't challenging. I never came close to dying, but the constant spamming of Deathlords' shouts made the area take a lot longer than it should have. Because there were so many due to my high level, it was impossible to fend off all their shouts. I slowly had to pick them off one by one to make my way up the ramparts.

To summarize: Skuldafn is not in the least bit challenging, but it is needlessly time consuming and therefore boring. If they wanted to make the area take longer, they should have made it a larger area.

@Haggar: My thoughts exactly.

Yes, I used stealth to get through. I also had the light foot perk which didn't help in many places. My stealth was pretty high along with perks but I still had to pay close attention to what I was doing. I used bow mostly right up until the end. Then I had to pull out the Dawnbreaker and Spellbreaker and go toe-to-toe. I used Aural Whisper quite a bit. I only switched to unrelenting force at the very end.

Another thing I did differently during this play through was leave my follower outside the dungeon. My first play through I reloaded more because of a follower death than from my PC's death.

I actually found the guy outside the dungeon more interesting this play through. During my first play through I had joined the Imperials. This play through I am neutral, and that made a difference in what the "officer" looked like and said.

Starlifter, thank you. It's good to hear your experience. I don't have any perks on Sneak but I took a lot on magic schools. Conjuration and Alteration are 100 too and Illusion is high so I'll have to see what works on these Deathlords this time. My character doesn't use forged weapons but she has lots of staves along with spells and Archery is perked a little. I'm sure they'll be using Disarm shouts on her though so sneaking as much as possible could work. It'll be nerve-wracking...and fun I hope! I'll look over my perk trees and see how close I am to getting a new one that could help me too. I haven't joined any faction yet but it'll be the empire when I do. Thanks again. :tes:
