The Dx11 factor for Crysis 2

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 10:40 pm

With Dx11 already out, like the new GTX 400 series. Will The new Crysis 2 be made for this dx or just stick to max dx10, to keep us gamers feeling safe?

I can't say for sure, but I'm thinking that its gonna be DX10/DX 9, Crytek managed to squeeze alot out of these preexisting technologies and i dont THINK DX 11 offers anything significant to them besides tesselation. Then when you think about it, CryEngine 2 looked pretty realistic even without tesselation, so i doubt they'll be needing it.
But hey thats all just speculation, it could still very well be DX11 :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone!!
I'm still trying to max out my GTx 465 for the Crysis vanilla, and Crysis Warhead,

Here's what happens, high (settings) quality and great performance. I've never seen such clean frame rates, even with an Sli rig of three dx10's. and that's just with single gpu??

Crysis 1 used DirectX 10 for... uhh... nothing.

I think they realized realtime lighting with DX10. Check the indirect lights in the Editor for the effect.

I neither think Crysis 2 will look much better if it had DirectX 11.

well dx10 has nothing really new implemented so it's no surprise that crytek couldn't make it uber-pro-kick-ass realistic with dx10

but dx11 DOES have something really new - TESSELATION
which could help make chars and props smoother in close up but save resources on far away stuff

also new (e.g. dereffered) lighting and some special occluding thing (i forgot the exact name)

If you want to see the difference run the heaven benchmark tool on your computer and switch between dx10 and dx11 there's quite a bit of improvement and also toggle tesselation on and off.

Of course Crysis 2 will will support DX11. I can't believe anyone would think otherwise.

Why does everyone keep thinking Crysis 2 will be some sort of castrated console port? Crytek's #1 fan base is still PC and they made their name by having the best graphics in any game. Why on earth would they take a step backwards by not supporting DX11 and not continuing to push the limits of computer graphics?

I don't get it, every day I check in on these forums and there is a new post from someone asking whether or not their POS computer will run Crysis 2. Or a post about how grateful they are that Crysis 2 wont be as graphic intensive as the original Crysis. (which is completely incorrect btw) I mean is everyone in this forum just some blissfully ignorant console gamer that thinks they know something about PC gaming?

People think it will be a castrated console port because their hasn't been any PC gameplay yet. Crytek has been marketing solely on the consoles, and this gives many people the reason to believe that the game won't be great on the PC.

They have not announced yet that Crysis 2 will use DX11. The game was started in heavy development before DX11 even existed, so it makes people doubt that it will be used. I think that since CryEngine 3 has DX11 featured, that Crysis 2 will use it. However, I doubt it will be used extensively like Metro 2033.

Oh and I forgot: most of the people on this forum are PC gamers, and we are not ignorant. We are just being cautious because Crytek has not announced or shown anything to us yet, to make us think otherwise.

Yeah ok I might have exaggerated a little bit with the ignorant console gamer remark. And I can appreciate being cautious. And I agree that Crytek should release more "official" information directly to us and not through random videos we have to search for.

But there have been a few interviews I've seen from various Crytek representatives that while they don't specifically talk about DX11, they do give some rather large hints. For instance the GT interview with Nathan Camarillo at E3 makes it pretty clear Crytek doesn't plan on skimping on anything with Crysis 2. He said they are "going to kick their own butt" with Crysis 2. Meaning they are going to surpass the graphical quality and the precedent they set with Crysis 1. So in my eyes that clearly means DX11. How else would they expect to do that?

Here is the link:
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-crysis-2/101803

(The part I quoted is around the 7:30 mark.)

After hearing that, if Crysis 2 is released without DX11 support I will be severely disappointed.

Go to www.crytek.com and click on "Technology", there you read :

"CryENGINE?3 is the first Xbox 360?, PlayStation?3, MMO, DX9, DX10 and DX11"

I don't see any reason that Crytek will not use DX11 as they promote and sell CE3. It would be a big downer for themselfs if they don't.

Btw: DX10 rocks and yes wasn't enough that we could do in MP, but overall it is fun to blow up stuff.

Differences between DX10 vs DX11 is huge and for example watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubaCpGsqIGU&hd=1
Wireframes is the key!

I think that Crysis 2 will support both DX11 and DX10 because of the fact that many PC users only have GPUs that work with DX10. For the dedicated gamers who do buy a DX11 ready GPU, they might have the ability to run DX11 but who knows? Crytek hasn't released many updates based on the stature of the game probably because they are still making all the levels and debugging the code. Checking for capability comes near to last because of the time strain. But I would be surprised if DX11 wasn't supported because the tessellation difference is extraordinary and makes a massive impact on how you view the game and how your GPU has to render the game.

If you buy a card that runs Nv or ATi , you know what the orice would be in dx11.

DX11 is the ... shi* right now and "wireframes" will give you the details. The only limit will be what we see in Multiplayer mode. That worries me. Vista (last service pack) and Win7 can do DX11 by update or stock.

Crysis and Crysis Warhead don't support DX11, because they were launched before DX11 was released
