The Elder Scrolls VI is a long ways off - Interview

Moderator edit: Threads Merged.

So Pete Hines just said on his twitter.com account that Todd Howard is working on 2 projects before The Elder Scrolls VI ever gets released for sale.

So if my guess is correct the first project will be released for sale in 2018 or 2019 and then the third on in like 2022 or 2023.

Two *major* projects? What is left? It's not more Fallout4 stuff unless it's the VR mess. Perhaps remasters of Oblivion and Fallout3?

If they are working on those two projects continuously, normally TES VI should come after 2019 for sure!

It's not Virtual Reality (VR) either. Todd Howard I think it was went to talk to Geoff Keighly and announced all the Virtual Reality (VR) video games that they are developing like Fallout 4 using it and unnamed ones they will be developing in the future if it succeeds.

These 2 projects are completely new Virtual Reality (VR) less video games.

I wonder if it's not wordplay and one of the projects is TES6. Obviously we wouldn't see it released for sale until after it was developed. If that's the case, then perhaps the other project is a TES mobile game to go along with TES6

This should not surprise anyone. They're still working on Fallout 4. There's no reason to expect an announcement for at least another couple of years.

I for one like the idea of not having the technology to accomplish what they want. I'd much rather wait, then have them compromise their vision of cut down a Provinces atmosphere for the sake getting it out the door.

I not sure to think about this, it sounds like their team isn't even focused on its development yet, contrary to everyone's belief that they would be after Fallout and DLC. On the other hand it seems likely it will be gigantic jump from Skyrim and FO4, more than likely with a new engine. I just hope it doesn't enter in a development hell like it often happens when teams get to ambitious and get too influenced by big expectations the previous games set (see Diablo III, or HL3).

I'm betting that they're planning to release it as VR. There's a lot that needs to come together, likely including a major new engine, before that happens.

Maybe Fallout 5 will be out before TES 6 I will be good with that. Depending on what the projects are I am fine if they are out before TES 6 hopefully it is a new IP.

"... many years from now", eh? Sigh, ok.

I wonder what the two very large projects they're working on are. VR? A new series?

Nobody said that. Just that it will be the last to be released of these 3 games they have in development ;)

Kind of wierd that a game development company that got their fame from Elder Scrolls, is barely even working on elder scrolls.

now i may be remembering incorrectly, but didn't they say something very similar about FO4 around a mere year-a year and a half before it was announced?

He said "it will make sense" releasing TES VI after those two games, so I think they will tell a lot about TES Vi technologically-wise (as in, the technology developed and tested in those games will be important to TES).

After watching the interview, definitely does not sound like smoke screening. Since we are now speaking of two projects, it was 3 before the official announcement for the Skyrim Remaster, I'm wondering if the other is related to bringing Fallout Shelter to the PC. The second would be the new IP we've often talked about, but have no idea as to the subject and theme...

Honestly, from what I remember I don't think they said a single thing about fallout until it was announced at e3, and dodged every question about it before that.

Here with Todd addressing tes and it being the elephant in the room was way more definitive than anything they said about fallout pre announcement.

I don't think this is a play if words when he says it's still years off. It sounds like the game is still in very early stages if development with his comment of not having the technology for what's planned. I'd guess by the comment that they are still in the concept art phase at this point. They obviously know what province they are doing, what the overall story will centre around at this point, but probably still working out the logistics behind the actual game play and approach they are taking.

Fallout 5 and a new IP (I'm guessing Starfield might be a project of theirs).

TES VI fits the bill as the third of the three big projects (hence two more projects coming before this one). The other two would be Fallout 5 and probably Starfield. Skyrim: Special Edition would hardly qualify as a major project bigger and different from anything they've done before, since basically all they did was just find some time to polish up the ports of Skyrim they did as part of Fallout 4's development.

Correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't this the reason back in december that Bethesda opened up a new studio in montreal or something? I believe they made a new studio with 40-50 devs. This would make the most sense for them to have worked on the Skyrim Port which didn't take much time while they continue on making new titles. Fallout 5 won't be releasing until 2023, So naturally 2 new games are being developed and Elder Scrolls 6 will be coming in 2019.

However this doesn't mean we won't get another fallout game before 5, If anything perhaps they'll make a New Vegas 2 with Obsidian Entertainment some where which would make alot of sense given rumors about it being in chicago or something but only time will tell.
