The Elder Scrolls Online is Not as World of Warcraft

Ever played Mortal online?
One of the worst developed MMORPGs of all time. I helped in Beta but the developers rarely listened. Chose not to buy it at launch.

That's a problem with the studio, not 1st Person.

First person in that game was bad though. What other first person MMORPGs are there?

Getting surrounded a problem? Apparently, they've never heard the phrase "keep your head on a swivel".

Ever spend hours on end on a forum only to bash a game you have no intention of playing?

Yes, but it had a VERY viable 1st Person mode.

So did Final Fantasy XI.

Doesn't mean it was built around, or on, First Person like Mortal Online was.

Theres definitely enough cool ideas to make it different but its enough? Kinda hope theres something out of the box like SWTOR's space combat.

I sure hope there is nothing like ToR's space combat in any game again. Their space combat was the laziest excuse of mmo content I have ever seen.

I think it should, if it wants to be able to reasonably say "We're not a WoW clone" or else people who don't follow the game as close as we do won't take a close look at it. They'll just look at it and say : "Oh look, that's not TESO"
However, I understand that it won't be built around it, so I think we should still have an actual option.

Um, to my knowledge they have already said you can zoom into first person.

And it can already "reasonably say" it's not a WoW clone.

You can zoom in, it's been confirmed that you can not see your hands or feet.
Maybe to us, people who follow it, but to outsiders, it looks an awfully lot like generic fantasy mmo no 10000000, even after following it closely, it doesn't do anything new, really.

Just because they haven't announced new features, yet, does not mean there are none. They have said they aren't showing it all off yet and the official reveal of the game is only like a month old. We have a year or so until Beta there will be plenty of information coming out down the pipeline.

As I've said, I'm reserving final judgement until beta, but I can't imagine what core features they've yet to unveil that will be big and new enough to draw people in. ZOS is free to surprise me though.

Haven't they been?

1) Hero Engine OH EMM GEE - Actually, we aren't using Hero Engine.

2) ONLY THURD PERSIN?!! NO ZUUUM? - Actually, yes you can zoom into first person.

3) The world doesn't look like TES. - Video releases and the worlds do indeed look very ES-ish.

4) The Kotaku screen that shows a WoW UI kills the game for me - We have a minimalistic UI.

5) Hotbar combat doesn't work in ES. - The way it is being done is a very nice alternative.

Things keep popping up that get people mad, they keep proving people wrong.

What was the new one? How can they say it isn't possible to do housing? - Oh wait, we can, it just isn't a priority.

On the Ebonheart Pact: "former enemies," Firor said, "bonded in an alliance of convenience. "
that line cracks me up, "alliance of convenience." Convenient lore wise and also convenient for them as game creators.

4) A UI that we haven't seen.
5) Combat that's left almost every reporter who's seen it disappointed.
Huh, don't you just love it when devs say exactly the opposite thing? Even the fact that it isn't a priority is a bad sign, this game is getting more and more themepark.

They have never advertised it as a true sandbox. Where did that assumption come from? I saw the UI in person and it is nowhere close to WoW or even SWTOR. If you are a role player do you NEED to see your arms? Use your imagination. Combat is never going to please everyone. So many people on forums ranted and raved for a game like DarkFall and then nobody played it. Everyone asked for combat like Mortal and now nobody plays it. The mass market gravitates to standard combat, for the most part. Publishers go where the money is.

They never marketed as a sandbox, and that's their problem. When people think "Elder Scrolls" they think Sandbox. No-one played Darkfall or Mortal because they were buggier than Skyrim. And yes, I'd like to see my arms. It won't make or brake the game, but, it just adds to the impression that ZOS is just half-assing this one for a cheap money grab. Again, I reserve final judgment until beta.

Might have something to do that they decided to use a name for a series that has striven for freedom since '96? That's whats worrysome to me. I love the newly designed "manual blocking" style of combat with synchronizing [censored] with your friends, but the current "lack of freedom".My Dunmer will freaking bunch those N'vah outlanders if they come even close to our beloved land. OH WAIT I CAN'T, those nords are of the same faction! Silly me! And the TES Immersion is [censored] up immediately. Not to mention, I can't be a trader, since the game will most likely be loot based economy. there goes my dream of a smuggler caravan leader Khajjit. I also would have loved to be an beggar- Argonian thief, but I can't be that either. All the -real freedom- that equals the title TES does not currently have any signs of life. And that worries me.

The Elder Scrolls (abbreviated as TES) is an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_role-playing_gamehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_world video game series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_developer by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethesda_Game_Studios and published by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethesda_Softworks.
