The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly - Your opinions on ESO

Post » Thu Dec 05, 2013 4:40 pm

Okay, this is a thread to discuss and compare what you think are the good points of ESO, the bad points of ESO, and what you consider to be possible deal breakers AKA The Ugly. (Note: My info is a little behind on the times right now so if I get points wrong feel free to correct me)

The Good:

I like the focus on exploration.

Combat seems like it will be Elder Scrolls Like

Progression system seems good

The Bad

Places being mostly locked to faction. I say mostly because I have heard there are examples of going behind enemy lines so to speak for quests and the option for going to new places later on by switching factions.

The Ugly

Subscription AND Microtransactions. I get it's probably the choice of the parent company. I get that according to news I hear Bethesda are trying to waive the Xbox Live fee for people. I even get that it's probably just going to be cosmetic stuff that is unimportant. Nonetheless, you just can't DO both of these together. if I pay for a subscription, I expect that subscription to cover EVERYTHING in the game. Isn't that what I'm paying you for in the first place? To get a full experience that can't be provided merely by just buying the game? It's just irritating and a potential dealbreaker to me. (Insert comments of "Yeah heard this before" and "yet another guy whining" here.)

Just to answer couple of things for you:

You'll be able to go to other faction areas once you reach lvl 50. Nothing is locked from you.

You won't see enemy players there but the areas are open to you.

And the shop of TESO; It ONLY offers services like name changes and stuff. NOTHING that you can actually use in game.

No mounts, no pets, no skins, etc. Only services.

Can you provide your sources for microtransactions?

I do agree though, a sub should cover everything.

After level 50 you can explore the other faction area's so it's not locked ;-)

I do hear you on the micro-transactions though, but as long as it's things like name changes and stuff, I don't mind.

You can do your own searching through all the videos ZOS has put up.

Or you can just take my word for it.

There will be others here to say the same thing to you if that is good enough for you.

I simply don't have the time to dig out the exact videos here at work.

Anyway, I guess my opinions on ESO then will be when I play it.

i will buy it on day one and then i'll see if its really that good :P

Will each faction be limited to specific areas, or can I travel anywhere?

"Before level 50, you will be able to explore the territory of your own alliance, as well as Cyrodiil, our PvP zone. Once you reach level 50, you will be able to travel to other factions' territories and continue your adventure with other level-50 players of your alliance. Don't expect an easy time of it, though! You will not be playing in these new areas alongside low-level characters. They will be versions of those areas specifically for level-50 characters."

In speaking to http://www.ausgamers.com/news/read/3344647/the-elder-scrolls-online-will-offer-an-item-store-for-fun-stuff-and-servicesat GamesCom, The Elder Scrolls Online General Manager Matt Firor. Matt Firor said the game, in addition to the monthly fee, would offer players a chance to spend more on items in an in-game cash shop.

“There won’t be anything like bonus points, but we will have a shop to buy kind of fun stuff and services too like name changes and things like that,” he said.

He added that the items would not be essential to being competitive in the game, but merely quality of life improvement tools. He said the items will not be “part of the core game, anything included in the core game is included in the subscription price.”

They have already stated a couple times that player housing was in the development pipeline to be in one of the first things added to the game after launch, so you shouldn't have to wait too long for it to be there after the game goes live.

Good

Just about everything for the most part, it looks fairly good, and it looks like it will be a good combination of MMO and TES

Bad

Animations looks stiff in the videos, so hopefully that will change. Also, I am worried a lot about Balance in the game.

Ugly

Like all MMO's General chat is going to be ugly. Also, when the People who wanted Skyrim Online realize it is not going to be Skyrim Online (never watched the videos, never payed attention to other things, etc), the forums are going to get ugly.(er than useal over this)

Good: It's Elder Scrolls

Bad: They are going to have to cater to the younger generation of players to recoup/make money, which means less staying power/game quality for the older folks who have been with TESO for awhile

Ugly: Waiting until "Spring 2014" to be able to play.

Good:

Character development.

Bad:

No world wide open trade. (like auction houses and player markes)

Ugly:

A community demanding (sometimes imposible) nonsense to be added into the game.

Would it be too contentious of me to suggest that your Bad might be a good example of your Ugly? lol
