I like it... but that "coming next December" part was absolutely terrible.

Worst part of the trailer by far.

I'm impressed that it captures the feeling of the trilogy so well. I always liked The Hobbit more than the trilogy and the trailer did not disappoint. Though some of the dwarves didn't look dwarfish enough for my tastes.

I hope they don't try to make it appeal to the LOTR film fans and make it for advlts.

I read the Hobbit as a kid, and that is its target audience, the film should be the same.

It looks really good. I don't like the alleged romance between Galadriel and Gandalf they're trying to shoehorn in. I'm not Tolkein lore master, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't consider it given the nature of his true being.

It may pan out to be of no substance in the movie though.

I haven't been to the movies since The Dark Knight because really nothing has appealed to me.

I will definitely be going to see this though.

Hmm Galadriel? And Thorin looking young? Some of the dwarves don't look like dwarves, but maybe that's because I've had them pictured in my mind for over two decades now. Thorin should be grey-haired and venerable, like a king among the dwarves, and Kiki doesn't look like a dwarf at all (edit: they're the young ones, that's why. Took a few minutes to realize it)

This is what Thorin should have looked like: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2010/10/22/39504-richard-armitage-as-thorin/

I wonder if this movie will stay true to the lightheartedness of the book. It doesn't look like it will, and in fact looks like it takes quite a few liberties. I guess that's to be expected; even though Tolkien hadn't written LOTR at the time, in the history of Middle Earth Galadriel was involved in events of the time, being part of the white council that drove Sauron from Dol Guldur.

I also don't think they're implying a romance between Gandalf and Galadriel. I don't know what they're inferring actually, save perhaps Galadriel divining Gandalf's true spirit in a flashback scene.

One thing I'm really looking forward to: we will get to see dwarves kick some ass. Those who haven't read the books will see that they're not comic relief but are damned kickass

(in Unfinished Tales it's said that while Sauron assaulted Minas Tirith in ROTK, he also assaulted The Lonely Mountain and Esgaroth in another major battle that we didn't see. And in The Silmarillion dwarves kicked the crap out of elves)

EDIT: Radagast is in the movie :) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/fullcredits. So is Elros which supports my theory that the Galadriel and Gandalf scene is a flashback.

I cant wait for this, been hoping to see a (hopefully good) adaptation since the LotR trilogy was finished. I love the Hobbit and have read it countless times since I was in like 4th grade (I loved reading at the time)

The Hobbit is one of my favourite books, so it will be very hard to please me with the film.

Bilbo doesn't look plump enough in the beginning at Bag End. He looks like he's already gone through the transformation from a creature of comfort.

All of the Dwarves look good. Some more than others. Except for Kili who looks so out of place with the others. Just looks like a person. Thorin looks a little off for me as well.

The song the dwarves chant in the beginning is awesome. Not how I have ever imagined it, but I really like it.

I'll see the movie, no doubt about it. But I'm wary of Jackson after some of the out of the blue garbage he pulled in the LOTR. Aragorn being unsure and afraid of his destiny? Arwen at the ford? Aragorn not leaving Rivendell with Anduril? Elves at Helms Deep? Dead men saving the day at Pelinnor?

But worst than any of that, the crap he pulled with Legolas sliding down the stairs on a shield at Helm's deep, swinging onto the horse during the (added) warg attack, and worst of all jumping on the oliphaunt. Those scenes really bother me for whatever reason, they seem so over the top and out of place, and shatter the mood of the situations.

Blah. Overall the films were enjoyable, and I'm sure the Hobbit will be too. But I don't like/trust Jackson not to add a bunch of made up crap, or butcher certain characters

I see we think alike...
I agree with your conclusion, but I'm curious to see what he makes of the Dol Guldur material. Could be an interesting addition, if done right.

Oh wow. Arthur Dent/Tim is playing young Bilbo? I had no idea. Cool.

Is it just me or are the colors (art style in general) VERY vibrant in comparison to the TLotR films?

I have been waiting for this for a long while and I'm really excited! This is going to be one of the few movies I'm going to watch next year (I don't go to the movies very often).
I also hope they won't ruin it with 3D...

(Shrilly scream of fandom)

Ok, now that I got that out of the way....looks great.

But i agree with the post before how some of the dwarves don't look dwarvish enough.

I mean Oakenshield should look super dwarvish since hes part of the line to the 7 dwarf lords.

That looks good.

However, either I'm in my usual morning mood or everyone else is exaggerating. It was all right, nothing to cream your pants about. It doesn't tell you much about what the movie is going to be, except that Bilbo goes on a journey and will find the ring.

Still got another year though.

Thankfully I didn't see Legolas. I heard that Jackson planned on putting him in there, which would have pissed me off, to say the least.
