"The Jimi Hendrix Experience"

He was a brilliant guitarists, but I don't think he was that great at writing songs, or using his guitar abilities that well. His solos are brilliant but they aren't always that easy to appreciate. I'd rather listen to some Clapton or Beck.

That said, my favourites from him are probably Purple Haze, All along the Watchtower, Voodoo Child, Little Wing and Red House.

He's alright. Back in the 60's he was the first of his kind. So I can understand why he used to be so popular.

Other than a few songs....well, have you heard the Star Spangled Banner by him......jumpin jesus on a pogo stick is it god awful.
it was supposed to be 'god awful'. It's is one of the most important political songs of the age. It's a musician's way of burning the flag in protest.
It's a protest against the USA invasion of Vietnam and the unnecessary deaths of 50,000 young American men.
you can listen to just how 'god awful' it is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyGGG1I-rf8
For non-americans it's the best version of The Star Spangled Banner there is,

It also isn't just him shredding either, if you know the lyrics the sound effects of screaming and ambulances fit quite well

Hendrix is pretty badass :) I don't listen to him often, but he's an amazing musician.
