Gold found on YouTube....?
I don't really like Hendrix, can see what made him such a "great" guitarist.

Technically he's not the best guitarist, and that's not the reason why I like him. It's his feeling and Improvisation that draws me to his music.

He's not the best guitarist, but I think he kinda pioneered the sound, and that's what made him a famous guitarist and great musician in general.

I'm no huge fan of Hendrix, but I like some songs like Voodoo Child and All Along The Watchtower.

I like him a lot, hard to sing a long with his songs though. Hes got a pretty unique voice.

Other songs I like a lot might be the Wind Cries Mary.

Sit in a dark room, and listen to 1983... and Moon, turn the tides..., proof you can get high without needing any drugs at all.

I agree, there's a lot of effects that Hendrix popularized like distortion. In fact on his album's there was a description that stated "Songs are intentionally distorted".

There's a sound that Hendrix had too that I think helps him get the recognition he did and still does get. It's very bluesy and rocksy at the same time, it's pretty awesome. He isn't/wasn't the most technical or melodical guitarist but no one really has or had his sound and a good unique sound can get you a long way.

Fuzz had been used before. I would say the Uni-Vibe was much more of a signature sound. (Not to forget the studio tricks of real flanging, i.e. slowing and speeding up the flange of a tape reel by hand, and the phasing they achieved by rigging up a 10" speaker to a motor, in a Meccano frame.)

Hendrix is one of my biggest inspirations as a guitarist and a musician. Too few people these days give him the credit he deserves. In hindsight, with music what it is today, and with the abundance of excellent guitarists, it's hard to appreciate what he brought to the table over fifty years ago. But even now his music is still relevant, which is a testament to the influence and the timelessness of what he wrote. Which was hard, bluesy, rock 'n roll with a psychedlic twist, and fantastic guitar playing. A bit sloppy, at times, but he always put energy into it, you can hear that. I don't dig every song he wrote, as some of the stuff on Electric Ladyland bores me. But we owe him and the engineers he worked with (Roger Mayer, for one) a huge thanks for providing future guitarists with the slew of effects and distortion sounds that would become a staple in every guitarists musical arsenal.

Axis: Bold as Love is my favorite album. But I love what he did with Band of Gypsys as well. Machine Gun is in my opinion one of his most creative guitar solos.

"Red House" is my favorite.
Which version? Seriously I have about 5 different recordings of it.

I think Machine gun or Stone free are my favourites.

On a side-note: The Jimi Hendrix Experience is a British band right?

The one where he plays the Stratocaster...I forget, probably the studio version.

Noel and Mitch were British, Jimi was American. And they were based in the UK.

Oh, also, yeah, I love Jimi's guitar playing and his feel for songs. Completely unmatched, and I see no reason not to call him one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived.

Yeah, that. He may not sound "special" these days but that's precisely because he was so influential.

Great guitarist and musical pioneer. I love his stuff.
Despite the fact that he's not the 'best' gutiarist ever, he has been so influential in the development of the guitar, and more importantly the effect machines that go with it.

Favourite song is probably 'All Along The Watchtower', despite the fact that it's not his own song.

Yeah man, love him. People don't seem to be as familiar with his second album though, but I guess I can see why it'd be harder to get into. If I had to pick a favorite track it would definitely be "1983 ...A Merman Should I Turn to Be" followed closely by "May This Be Love" and "Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)" as well as "Third Stone from the Sun".

If you guys like Jimi you might like Love

I love Hendrix, I can't think of any specific songs, Little Wing is nice.
I don't listen to him all that much though (got other artists/bands that I like more).
He is overhyped I think, I can agree that he was important when it comes to style and sound, but that he's the best guitar player who has ever walked this mortal plane is kind of taking it to far IMO.

He's alright. Back in the 60's he was the first of his kind. So I can understand why he used to be so popular.

Other than a few songs....well, have you heard the Star Spangled Banner by him......jumpin jesus on a pogo stick is it god awful.
