The main complaints I have for this port on ps3, please fix

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 9:37 pm

These are the main issues I feel that are holding back the PS3 version of this game and need to be patched.

- Load times and auto save times are waaaaaaay too long. 45-50 seconds to reload a save after dying, 12-15 seconds to autosave. Please patch in an install option as it is just unbearable!

(Video proof here)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSGZmknIGXw

- Control mapping is just stupid as hell. having to constantly hold L3 to sprint is the most uncomfortable thing ever. This is the way the controls should've been. L1 to sprint, the unused Circle button for flashlight, L3 for crouch (and give us a crouch toggle option), and put the zoom feature back on R3 like in the xbox 1 version!

- There is no blood spatter effect on the floor and walls when you shoot enemies. This graphical effect was in both the xbox 1 port and PC version, yet now it's missing, making the battles a lot less viseral.

(Which i've discovered the cause of it in this video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsS-9Id2HpI

- In Resurrection of Evil, when you activate the heart artifact all the smoke effect from guns on the walls and floor disappear. I shoot the shotgun and there is nothing on the walls, the same with other weapons. Glitch has been documented in these videos...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJEE7_TH1uc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSTsipk3aNk

- The flashlight no longer casts a shadow off enemies and objects like it did in the PC original. I dunno if this was a performance choice or just an oversight but it's a shame that it's missing.

- Give us the option of using the classic flashlight. Sure there were tons of complaints about it but I personally used it as a viable melee weapon for saving ammo. Now I am forced to use the less powerful fists. Really lame.

I feel really ripped off having purchased this game. Do the right thing Bethesda and fix these issues!

The problems that i'm having with the game:
1.game take to long to load save file as will checkpoints (Digital Game)
2.few times game stuttering for about 2-3 seconds
3.every time that i look up in down the game suffer from tearing issue
4.The Field of View (FOV) everything is too close to screen

This is the issues that i be experiencing, Please Fix.

something that i notice is that supposedly the game can be playable in 1080p but the game only runs in 720p, this is a very old game so the PS3 can handle the game in Native 1080p

I really don't understand why we can't go back to the main game selection menu from Doom and Doom 2.

WHY bethesda/id, why in D2 would you put the double barrel shotgun in-between chainsaw and melee and not after the single barrel??? That makes no sense to me. Also, I would like to be able to pan the level map in D1 and D2 like you can in the originals.

Thanks for reading

I would like to see the small graphical issues fixed, such as the shadows and the bloodstains. I'd like the game to have shortened load times. Those two issues are real, and they would enhance the overall gameplay.

However, the one issue that needs attention right away is the sprint button/control mapping issue. Not being able to reliably sprint is gamebreaking, not just an inconvience like a long load time or a minor graphical bug.

A patch to add control options to map sprint to the L1 button is really needed to play Doom 3.

Thank you again id and Bethesda for bringing these great games to the PS3. I really hope you guys can work these minor issues out so us gamers can get the most out of them.

Here are the issues I have (very annoying by the way, is it an ID game ? I can't beleive it !):

- screen tearing in almost every firefight
- decals are missing, smoke effects may just switch off
- machinegun and shotgun firing sounds are FAR worse
- no option to switch off the autosave (disrupts the immersion succesfully)
- framerate drops
- some textures are so much compressed, that you can see the artifacts
- the fov is far too low, it should be 90 as in the orignal
- the flashlight does not cast shadows, just like the firing the weapon (all present in the old doom 3)

I AM EXPECTING A PATCH, I payed my hard erned money for an improved doom 3 experience, nor for a worse doom 3 experience.
I will tell all my friends how badly I got $#!@#@. I am a big doom fan and I am all sad inside, because of this release.

Could we also get the option to choose which levels we want to play in Doom 1 and 2? For example, I would like to work on my level times but don't want to have to play through the game to get to a certain level.

That leads me to another issue. If I complete a level offline, my time won't be uploaded to the leaderboards when I finally do get online. I have to be logged in first to get my name up there.

(My biggest issue as I have said before is still the double-barrel shotgun placement, please put it in-between the single barrel and the chaingun).

Did you know that you can use the quick select for the shotguns? Press down once on the d-pad for the super shotgun, twice for the regular shotgun.

That is some good news. I honestly think that Decayedmatter's comprehensive posts with videos pointing the issues helped to motivate ID team. Thanks pal, you did well. :bunny: (doom bunny)

I posted on that very GameFaqs thread, and in that thread I had this to say in addition to the definitive list of changes by user 'ElBorak77'.

I actually bought this on PSN because I heard such bad things about the load times from the disc version. Even at 10-15 seconds from the HDD, it's no match for most of my other PS3 games running from disc! Slow Blu-ray read times aren't really an excuse. This game is as old as the hills. COD loads near-instantaneously from Blu-ray without putting anything on the HDD.

Ordinarily I'd have bought the physical copy (I like having a real product for my money), but I couldn't stomach the thought of minute-long load times, so I sighed and got it from PSN. I love Doom so much, which is why I got this despite all the issues. Still, it'd be nice to get them cleared up. If the only option for speeding loads for physical copies is an install, so be it. Do it. I would regard this game is essentially unplayable with minute-long load times.

With that said, the main things that piss me off are:

-The extremely limited control options. Not only can I not remap anything, sprint and crouch are on the sticks and have to be held-down lol!? That's just dumb. Even the Xbox 1 port had better control options, with the ability to turn these actions between hold and toggle. Or at least crouch could be a toggle, with sprint being on the left trigger and not being a problem to hold.

On BFG, I find getting away from imp fireballs to be hazardous in a way they never were on Xbox 1. I have to press my left stick down AND move that stick to evade. Generally this ends up with me careening into scenery becoming trapped and hurt even more. It's a really dumb design decision, and feels like nobody actually played it or something.

How I would have my controls; all the same as BFG default, except the flashlight would be moved to the completely-unused circle button, sprinting would be on L1 (having to hold it for continuous use), and crouch would be where it already is (R3), but would be toggle instead of hold.

-Not being able to go back to the game select screen from Doom and Doom II. This is minor I guess, but again it just feels stupid. Why can't I go back to that screen from 90s Doom when I can from 2004 Doom? Doesn't make any sense. Part of the awesomeness of the BFG package is just that - it's a package of Doom awesomeness. Making me go back out to the XMB if I want to switch from Doom or Doom II to anything else that's on BFG is a pain.

-I hear some Doom II levels are censored. This is stupid. Who cares if it's not allowed in Germany? You gave us Nazis and swastikas in 2009's Wolfenstein (awesome game, btw). You gave THEM the censored version, not all of us.

-The blood splatter/gunshot decals glitch. It's weird. In theory a minor problem, but in practice I just cannot be having my Doom without all the gore. Put it back in!

-Level select.

I'd love to get behind the "we want co-op" thing, as I did play that mode on the old Xbox 1 port, and it WAS completely awesome. However, Vicarious Visions modified the game itself with bigger hallways etc to accommodate two players. I think asking id to do all of that in a patch for BFG is too much of an ask.

Perhaps just a crude co-op "as-is" with nothing changed? I don't know. It was certainly the best thing about the Xbox 1 version.

My 2 cents. If nothing else, please address the meagre control options. Let us map any command to any button, and let us choose between a hold for crouch and a toggle. Toggle ftw.

I'd like to add that the game has a tendancy to stall for a second or two later in Doom 3 (and whenever in RoE) during initial Wraith appearances (it'll stall, then the rest of the fire fight will proceed nominally).

This also happens to me. It also seems to happen when you proceed to a new area almost as if the game is catching up streaming in something.

Add to the list:

- plasma gun lighting on the gun and on the environment
- zoom fuction
- full screen in doom 1&2, wide screen in doom1&2
- higher framerate on doom 1&2 would be nice
- fov (field of view) should be changed to 90, it is a corridor shooter, low fov makes it harder and just looks bad and pisses me off !
