The Main Quest - Is It Worth It ?

Let's just say that if Morrowind's MQ had you unite the Ashlanders and Great Houses by sitting at a table for 5 minutes, I would be just as disappointed. Skyrim's MQ is feels rushed to it's conclusion, like it's missing 1/3 of what should be there.

Yeah. I played Morrowind for years... and only got to completing the main quest in the last few months. I wasn't crazy about it at all and really just grinded to finish it because I was giving my old Xbox away to my cousin. It was one of those, "well, I've played that game for years and never finished the mainquest. May as well do it now before I lose the opportunity". Yeah, it was anti-climactic. At least with Skyrim's you get some cool things for completing it... but, like Morrowind, it doesn't really hold my interest as far as story telling goes. There are a few really cool moments, but there were in Morrowind as well. Oblivion started out promising for me, but when I realized that everything was a fetch quest or a "close this Oblivion gate... now this one... now this one..." it wore thin. And I was really disappointed with the sorry excuse for an epic battle at Bruma. I think that bothered me most. The most each town could spare was two guards a piece. Lame.

But none of that broke any of the three games for me. The main quests are what they are. Bottom line is that everything else about each of those games is fabulous. I have devoted a huge chunk of my life to playing TES games because of the *freedom* they provide, main quests aside.

I agree with the plebian, I was ropable at the way morrowind finshed. I was only 15 16 but I was dramatically upset, almost sooking haha! But I was already prepared for how unimpressive oblivion was gonna be. Reminded me of fable quests flat out. :/

For someone who doesn't use any form of fast-travel, having to climb up High Hrothgar every time the Greybeards want me is more than a little frustrating.

Other guild quests are much more rewarding.

I can't seem to get into it. Tried it with two characters but it just doesn't fit them. The whole storyline is too specific and I feel it would only be fun with certain characters. Especially the whole shouting business just doesn't fit most of my characters. I do plan on making an Orc warrior and have him become dragonborn, but so far I feel the main quest just isn't worth it.

I would've preferred that, actually. What an obtuse quest.

I was a lot older than 15-16 when I first played Morrowind, I guess I have a different perspective on it. All that running around, ...the do this, that and the other thing to get each member of a Great House or Ashlander tribe on my side. The finding the holes in the walls in a blight storm.

...It was work.

So at the end, sure it wasn't the most explosive action-movie thing in the world, but then Azura does the recap and I'm like.... "Yeahhh, I did all that [censored]". Morrowind isn't about the destination, it's about the journey. There's no journey in Skyrim's MQ, it's just the movie highlights.

It is kind of tedious till you get to the first Alduin battle at the Throat of the World, then its awesome

Not worth bothering with.

It's tedious and very lame.
Diplomatic Immunity does'nt even make sense.
If Delphine knows of other Blades, why the hell does'nt she just go, we need dragon experts, oh, I know, let's ask Esburn!
Instead of sending you into a absolutely pointless wild goose chase and pissing off the Thalmor for zero reason.

You get nothing for it, and no one knows you did it.
Dragonrend dose'nt even work most of the time. And summon hero and summon dragon are not even close to a proper reward for dragging yourself through that illogical mess.
There's nothing worth dragging yourself through that lame mess for.
Total and utter waste of time.

I don't do it most of the time. I did it once, got the trophies, now, no point.

Nicely put. Skyrim is definitely more about "cool moments" than "amazing journey".
