Am I the only one?...

It's not being made by Bethesda.
That's another reason for concern. Bethesda knows this franchise, Zenimax doesn't.
Who can say they'll treat TES with respect? Especially all the lore that's been established.

I have a bad feeling that from the time this is released there will only be one elder scrolls game, the online one

No, you're not alone at all. In fact, I think the majority of long-time Elder Scrolls fans are really unhappy about this idea.

Um... fairly sure both Obsidian and Bethesda did just fine with Fallout and neither created that series.

I don't think that's the case... People who are against MMOs are always louder and more annoying than the people who like them. This forum right now is filled with people who hate MMOs but they don't represent the entire TES fanbase.

I will try it, If it will bringing something new. So no quest grinding, no pre determined classes,, without a chat (imagine the rp and speech skill possibility's).
I hope it won't bring area's heavily focused on an amount of level you got, it would be a huge shame to leave skyrim for eternity because you're level is to high.

It should heavily focus on exploration. economy and roleplaying.

Bold 1: Damn right!

Bold 2: Damn right!

Now, I've watched SWTOR on youtube, so I know that it is broadly possible for MMOs to tel a story. But that means I know about exactly one MMO that can tell a story. That's not exactly a confidence-inspiring number.

I'm looking forward to this.

BGS can focus on single player for FO4 and TES6 and while I wait for those to release I play through some TES Online. Sounds like a good plan to me!

I agree, I'm not against it, just with the recent developments in the industry I'm cautious.

Not really. I saw Fallout 3 as being Fallout in setting but Oblivion in gameplay. Fallout 1 and 2 is the authentic games in the series. Not saying it was a bad game though, I enjoyed it a lot. But it wasn't really Fallout.
Just like this game won't really be TES, it'll be more of a spin-off. This forum doesn't even take place in The Elder Scrolls forums, it has a seperate one, that says something.

I'm willing to wait and see how it turns out. I hope it's not a Pay to play game. They should stick with microtransactions.

Seems now TES will have something to offer most gamers. Single player series and an MMO. Some will stick with single player, some will play the MMO that never desired to play the single players and there will be plenty who enjoy playing both.

One does not distract or devalue the other in my opinion.

Um... because it's a temporary forum for now?

And it will be a TES game, because it's called (currently) "The Elder Scrolls Online."

Just because it's not single player doesn't mean it's not a TES game.

Bethesda is a subsidiary of Zenimax. They may be different companies but the same people own both companies.

Hell, When Squaresoft made Final Fantasy XI it didn't stop them from returning to the main series with FF XII and FF XIII.

The difference hear is that there were rumers a few years ago based on something that someone from Bethesda said that there would be no Elder Scrolls V (that was before they called it Skyrim) because they were going to devote their energy to a MMO. That had a lot of us very worried about the future of the single game, and we were happy when Skyrim was finally announced.

The official announcement of the MMO coupled with the "streamlining" of the series we saw in Skyrim has me very worried about the future of the single player game.

I know nothing about MMOs so;
Will it use the Creation Engine?
Will it be in 1st person or 3rd?
How many people can be in one "server(?)" ?
Will you still be able to dungeon crawl and be immersed?

Relevance? EA owns several companies, doesn't mean Battlefield's staff is touching Dragon Age III.

I hope you are right. In the past they only released a TES game every five years and I understood that one of the reasons that Bethesda did not release a TES title more frequently was that the company was focusing its energy on other projects. With the success of Skyrim, I was hoping we would see the release of Elder Scrolls VI within three years, instead of the typical five year wait. An MMO seems like a huge project and I am worried that it may distract from the creation of future single player games.

Also there was that rumor a few years back that there would be no Elder Scrolls V (or that it would be pushed back a few years) because they were going to focus on an MMO instead. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/15/elder-scrolls-v-not-in-the-works-theres-a-chance-for-elder-s/

So the announcement that they are doing an MMO makes me worry whether there will even be a TES VI and if so, how long it might be before we see it. Has there been any official announcement from Bethesda that they are still committed to producing more games in the single player series?

EA is a publicly traded company. Zenimax is privately held. That's comparing apples to oranges.

Anyway, my fear is not about whose staff works on it. My fear is that the MMO will take resources away from future single player games.

Totally agree.

Lots of worry in this thread but facts are:

1) The MMO and the single-player TES games are being developed by different teams. There's absolutely no indication that the MMO will mean no TES6 or even delay it or reason to believe so.

2) You can still enjoy the single player games, even if you never touch the MMO. If you don't want to play the MMO fine. It doesn't mean you can't still enjoy TES6 when it comes out. One can completely disregard the MMO.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

I've lost all faith in MMOs after SWTOR. If something can make me not like Star Wars, it must be pretty bad xD So, to put it I have very low hopes for this game, but I'd loved to be proven wrong. The idea of putting my character in a setting where I can role play with others really gets me excited. However, I fear it'll just be another WoW ripoff.

Hope you are right. But I am not sure why you are so confident about it. I am not the only one worried about this. Post #41 from this thread makes an interesting point. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1371307-poll-how-do-you-feel-about-the-announcement/page__st__30

Perhaps you weren't around several years ago when Todd Howard that there was not going to be a TES V anytime soon because they wanted to devote their energy to Fallout and an Elder Scrolls MMO. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/15/elder-scrolls-v-not-in-the-works-theres-a-chance-for-elder-s/
