The physics in this game are like .....what?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:39 am

Think it's related to the havok engine. When I walked into my new house in Riften I could here stuff fall on the floor the first time I entered it. It's almost impossible to put back the chaurus eggs in the bookcase.

For Oblivion, you have the decorator assistent mod that can put things into a fixed state to avoid havock hell.

Hi there salacious. Good to see you.

So your in a room you throw a fire ball, things go flying, big explosion. You kill a dragon you throw a fire ball it - it goes flying across the courtyard or area you killed it - were talking a skelton probably weighing that of a airplain (smallish)......

SERIOUSLY?

the physics in this game are weird....

thoughts? trolls? comments?

Note: showing the skeleton with a bow sends the head/neck in a diffrent direction also pressing and holding e while walking near the dragon bones makes you move the whole skeleton.....

SERIOUSLY?

Physics are exceptionally good. It's one of the great achievements in this game. I cannot tell you the number of times I stood amazed after some cool and realistic physics took place. I am under the impression it is all due to the Havok modeule. A job well done.

I always like riding my horse at full speed into a butterfly and getting knocked aside. Talk about some tough butterflies.

Yeah. I came here to post about butterflies, but here it is already. Also, when you kill a butterfly it's wings drop like a rock, and has the sound effect of a rock dropping.

abacus707, hello there!

I was unaware of that. Overall, rigid body physics are great though. I'm sure if we dig hard enough we'll come up with some pretty bad examples, but all in all, great physics.

Well the dragons have to have hollow bones like birds or they couldn't fly. There, that explains that.

One thing I do really love is how skeletons fly apart and the pieces roll everywhere with that dry bones sound. That's just incredible.

I did get killed once when a firefly pushed me off a ledge. I was staring off in the distance and turned around just in time to see the thing bump into me and push me off. So I will say that the mass-volume-inertia needs work, but overall I think they did a great job considering the size and score of the game world.

They have made progress. I remember rooms practically exploding when I walked into them in Oblivion. Passing close to a table would wreak havoc. Things seem a bit more stable in Skyrim than in Oblivion... but yeah, Dragon Corpose mechanics are pretty weird, sometimes. I just laugh. Or maybe tell myself it's the dragon equivalent of headless chicken running.

I used to enjoy walking into a room and hearing an almight bang because a flower petal fell on to the floor.

*Le shrug*
They make the games, I play them.

Huzzah for complacency.

You can throw fireballs from your hands and carry 20 swords at same time without showing on your person. I doubt they care much about physics accuracy..

I heard they deliberately left some of the more amusing glitches in the game.

or, they could just be jacked... they are dragons after all. i know my armor that i made from the bones of the families of the dragons that i fight is pretty stout.

I encountered a flying mudcrab very early on in the game. I was walking up the road from Riverwood to Whiterun to report to the Jarl, and wanted to get a better look at the river when two mudcrabs attacked me. They collided with each other and before I had so much as drawn my weapon, one of them was flung up into the air by an invisible force. It was almost out of sight before it began to descent again. It landed a few meters away and - of course - died upon impact. I was very afraid that that might happen to me for quite some time afterwards, and ran for it whenever I saw a mudcrab.
