The physics in this game are like .....what?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:25 am

So your in a room you throw a fire ball, things go flying, big explosion. You kill a dragon you throw a fire ball it - it goes flying across the courtyard or area you killed it - were talking a skelton probably weighing that of a airplain (smallish)......

SERIOUSLY?

the physics in this game are weird....

thoughts? trolls? comments?

Note: showing the skeleton with a bow sends the head/neck in a diffrent direction also pressing and holding e while walking near the dragon bones makes you move the whole skeleton.....

SERIOUSLY?

The physics in oblivion were even more wierd. And dragon corpses are always way too heavy for me to even budge them...

It's pretty immersion-busting to watch a dragon shake, convulse, and bounce awkwardly on the ground after you kill it. The physics in Skyrim are rather disappointing.

Physics are not Skyrim's strongpoint, but its still a lot of fun to spawn 3000 units of cheese and then Fus Ro Dah the pile.

I always like riding my horse at full speed into a butterfly and getting knocked aside. Talk about some tough butterflies.

They have made progress. I remember rooms practically exploding when I walked into them in Oblivion. Passing close to a table would wreak havoc. Things seem a bit more stable in Skyrim than in Oblivion... but yeah, Dragon Corpose mechanics are pretty weird, sometimes. I just laugh. Or maybe tell myself it's the dragon equivalent of headless chicken running.

Sarcasm?

I personally find it handy to be able to move a dragon skeleton with fireballs. All those times I've ended up over encumbered far away from a settlement have made me thankful for it; just dump everything into the dragon and you have an easy(ish) way to transport your goods... until you accidentally send it too far off the wrong edge of a cliff.

Dragonbones must be hollow like birds bones are.
I mean it would help with flight after all.

Whatever it is, I don;t care. It's so much fun to hit a dragon skeleton with a fireball and watch it sail out of sight like an ant hit with a shotgun in EDF.

As I recall, from tests, the physics seems to be tied to the frame rate, and it's tuned for roughly 30fps. So if you're on a PC with a high fps, you're much more likely to see rooms explode when you open doors, because the physics become exaggerated.

It wouldn't be TES otherwise.

Serioulsy look at Oblivion, I made a Mace that had shock damage to exploit this. People flew across the map.

Reactions to arrows is pretty bad. When you hit someone and they go absolutely flying it sort of ruins the immersion.

I agree. It was amazing when a giant first killed me, launching me into the sky in the process.

Eh. Physics takes a lot of time to simulate (adding that you can't replicate everything IRL on a computer plane--no solid figures, etc.) Skyrim was at best rushed and it looks half-finished--I wasn't surprised they, uh, butchered the physics.

I look at it as one of the amusing things of this series its amusing to catch a dead enemy in a door and watch them flail about.
I can hit a dead dragon with a spell and they will go flying at least a few hundred to a thousand feet maybe even farther than that.

Considering Dragon Bones are pretty heavy (10 or 15 lbs, I don't remember which), the physics are a bit off. Unless the force of spell is really powerful. But it's okay, its fun sending them bones across Skyrim.

It's a video game. I made piece with the fact that they can never successfully mimic real life many many moons ago.

SERIOUSLY?

It's magic, who cares about the logic of the physics. Pretty sure magic can follow it's own laws.

I am obviously easily pleased I was happy just to go chasing stuff down every mountainside, the occasional damn, I killed it in the air problem and now it is stuck up there glitch I can handle, obviously some things just magically levitate even after you kill them!. It is a game, I have a fair bit of imagination and a lot of patience., it will be slightly easier to get if I am a flying vampire I suppose.

I throw things they bounce nicely, I shoot I can predict where things go usually, I shout, stuff makes a nice mess all over the place, thing float nicely down the river, a giant bats me one I need air sick pills, it is all fun to me. The horse teleporting to its death I could do without, but it got a laugh, perhaps it was related to the slingshot effect physics. You defy gravity by taking the horse where a horse should not be able to go, expect it to accumulate till you release the horse and it goes zooming off some where. Now the explanation for mammoth's falling out of thin air and almost killing you, or hagravens falling from the sky could need a bit more of an explanation. But adds that added element of surprise, you can never be too sure what will happen next.

This reminds me of a certain Frost Troll.. I paralyzed him with my bow on a slope, and suddenly he got launched straight up in the air. xD
Needless to say, he didn't live through it. O_o'
