The Purge

That, or most people would just hide in their homes and wait for the whole mess to blow over. Which is what they do anyway while crime is still, uh, illegal.

I hope they give some background into why this idiotic idea was allowed to be passed through Congress and signed by the President. The "Purge" sounds like some kind of population control method.

That trailer is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen since Tetsuo Iron Man and Eraserhead, except... not good.

99.9%? lol are you kidding! It only takes 1 person with a gun to spoil that entire party you got planned. Whos going to stop that person? Another person with a gun and another and another...

So wait, what does free crime night have to do with 1 percent unemployment? Like, the gov hires everyone on as clean up crew for the rest of the year or something?

So who's the moron in Congress that came up with this idea in the movie? Like seriously, enemy nations and terriost orginizations could use the purge to their advantage.

When you think about it, this premise is really stupid. Not recording crime doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's like eradicating unemployment by saying getting centrelink payments is having a job.

The kind of sociopath that would do that would do it anyway. Purge or no purge.

Really dumb idea for a movie. Every nut job out there would have a field day. Every government building would be blown up or burned. The nations oil and power grids would be wiped out. In short the whole United States would be destroyed in just 12 hours.

I don't know what people see in the premise. It sounds a lot dumber and implausable than the "Escape from" movies, and not even half as interesting on top of that.

Watched the trailer in english class. Looked like a typical horror movie with a somewhat original plot. But there are a ton of plot-holes that I can't even begin to comprehend how it could possibly work. Styles did a lovely job of summing up some of the plot-holes.

Well, I was kinda excited for this movie... but some people had to go and throw logic at it and now it sounds kinda dumb. :glare:

I think a better premise would have been to follow several people in different parts of a city. Like one is a hobo trying to stay alive, another could have been a business man that was marked by a kill group that turns out to be some of his employees, another could have been the family thing like in the current movie, and another could have been a guy with a hit list. And some how maybe they all tie in together.

I think the only way it could really work would be if they made it a mockumentary/movie like District 9.

Wanna bet there's going to be a gratuitous [censored] scene thrown in?

I was actually thinking something like that, never seen District 9 though but I know what you mean

No, but I tend to think more on the logical side. So when they started pointing out the logical flaws it lost it's magic on me.

Im guessing it graqe. - the g

Either the process of defecation or a process of sixual reproduction. I'm guessing the latter, since the former would be unnecessary more so than the latter already would be.

Edit: ahh mistaken I see *puffs 7 foot long gentlemans pipe*

@charon711 Indeed I did mean graqe. Come on, if crime is legal, and if this is a modern horror film ( is it a horror film?) , that pretty much has to be in it. That's what all of the boys like.

I prefer a nice date, in this movie that would mean a nice stolen car (returned later with a full tank) and a nice dinner we run out on(have to pay gas with some money and I want an overly expensive dinner) assuming I could get a date for that night.

Here's the thing. If everyone on a bus is toting a gun on their hip, no bad guy is going to try anything. If every person in the country was given a gun, crime rates would spike for a week at the most. Then, every criminal would be dead or not a criminal anymore. For about six months everyone would get really polite to one another. Then, everyone would stop carrying guns, because there is no crime and it's inconvenient to tote a pound of steel everywhere you go. Suddenly, Utopia.

I dont consider it horror. More of a thriller / suspense movie.

Until the bad guys realize "Hey! people arnt carrying guns anymore!"

Depends on the movie. A movie like this, yes. Its one of the reasons I didn't like the newer star wars movies. None of the characters used logic.
