The real world makes some very pretty weapons

Impractical useless vendor trash.

Hit something a bit too hard and watch all dem gems fly!

So is armor that only covers the groin (( like some of the fur armor skins and parts of hide/scale))

You're about 60% right. Texas is the land of open beverage containers and gun racks. We value a good brisket sandwich and a mean bowl of chilli and a Dallas Cowboys win on a Sunday afternoon. Guns are a must if you want to claim yourself as a Texan. I have a Glock 30, Mosberg 850 and a Remington 700... and that's just what I carry in my vehicle! :gun:

Just kidding...

And warm weather is a bit of an understatement.... it's more like the 9th circle of hell here in August.

I live in Washington State the weather here si like what it would be in some parts of skyrim with only the Snowier parts be like in the Mountains or Alaska. Speaking of which why are all SKyrim's dogs all muts and not Malmutes or ALaskan Huskies? Or even that one breed of dog that is usually seen with a small keg of whiskey around it's neck?

Weather here tends to be cold, windy, rainy with small chance of snow near sea level. State has one of the highest suicide rates in America.

Or at least the return of crossbows, whatever happend to crossbows?

and @ Komodo, no because even a woman's high heel shoe can be used to murder someone. Just because something is Fancy doesn't mean it's useless.

Seriously you can kill people with a cabbage and you can actually kill someone in real life with a shoe, why can't you kill them with an elaborate weapon?

The hilt not the tang, besides the hilt is wrapped in layers of leather so something a bit more fancy something of a higher stationed officer would use. Silver is great for undead, ghosts and werewolves and they do glow in light unlike the dark ebony. Sure Silver may not be strong as Ebony or Daedric but Silver has alwasy been better than steel and iron in the TES series. The blade of Ebony would be left untouched. Plus have you seen Mehrune's razor in SKyrim? It has this strange ball as part of the decraction connecting the tang to the hilt. perfectly feasable to have a small gem here or there much like the daggers in the pictures.

But again, why would anybody want that on a silver weapon?

Or on an ebony or Daedric weapon? Those weapons are incredibly expensive and difficult to make. You don't create them to just put them away and let them lay around for nothing... At least I'd be seriously upset with a gift like that. Give me something useful.

As for Mehrunes Razor, you don't mess with the artifact of a Daedric prince...

After the events of Morrowind the Nerevarine used a flying spell to go up into the sky, there he used a hot air balloon to stay a drift for a while longer when a gaurd accidently shot a crossbow bolt through the balloon causing the Nerevarine to fall down... Of course the Nerevarine used a slowfall spell but too late and then he landed ontop of a spear... Piercing his body killing him instantly.

From that moment on, Levitation, Slowfall, Spears and crossbows have been made illegal.

Well they make weapons and armor out of glass which quite frankly shatters easily.

Besides ancient nords were master craftsmen and women, so why couldn't they make very pretty weaponry? You can still fight with pretty weapons so long as they are sharp and ahv ea good weight to them. Gold is soft though, yet could be decoratively worn by a Jarl and such.

Silver is used for weapons, I do not understand why they don't appear prettier especially around the hilt, kind of something that looks like a fancy piece of Jelwry but can very well kill you.

In the case of non-unique items, cost, weight, balance, grip.

In the case of unique items, there is only two, merunes and woe, both color coded for your convenience so no sliver no gold.

Dwarven armor has never made any sense to me. I just cannot understand the idea of tall people in a dwarf's armor set. Whether or not the lore described TES dwarves as tall or short. A dwarf is short, by definition. Period.

Same thing with Orcish. I have never understood tall orcs.

Meric races use the term "Dwemer," which translates to "deep," "deep-counseled," or "secretive" people.http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dwemer#cite_note-0 They are alternatively known as Dwarves, a term used by http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Imperial and possibly created by the giants, the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Ehlnofey of the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Velothi_Mountains.
It makes quite a lot of sense. And both the Dwemer and the Orsimer are/were elves who are generally of medium or greater height, except for the Bosmer. It makes even more sense to have tall, big Orsimer since they are very warlike and value physical strength above all, hence they prefer physically imposing mates and end up breeding themselves to be strong.

You know what's unrealistic? Sprinting/swimming/climbing in heavy steel armor, this isn't counting anything better, on top of trying to grip through the armor hands a 35 pound single hand use sword in the middle of hot sun trying to retain the grip of it while fighting countless hordes of enemies

Realism has nothing to do with it (this game isn't set on Earth, after all). It's simple resource allocation - if you increase the budget for unique weapons you have to take away from the budget for something else. While each of us will have our own preferences and wishes for resource allocation, gamesas's job is to try and maximise the experience for the most number of people, not cater to individuals.

Unrealistic gameplay does not mean they should go for unrealistic art work. This point has no merit.

I wonder what is the problem with the current weapons in-game. There are quite a few pretty ones, but there must be more common blades than exquisite ones.

Besides, the ones showed by the OP look like they can hardly cut a slice of cheese.

Well presumably asking him to draw more impractical stuff with jewels that only get used a few times will take away from time he should be drawing other stuff that's going to be used more frequently. Ditto the modeller. Then there's render budget allocation as well - the more fancy the model the more render budget it will take up, unless you optimise it back down to the same resources as less fancy stuff, which takes yet more time away from something else someone is doing.

The whole game is made with best effect for the resources decisions like that - at the very simplest it's a cost/benefit anolysis and it's the only way you can make such large and polished games without taking an inordinate amount of time and money, which would result in problems for us the end purchaser (delayed release and much higher cost of game).

#snip#
It takes a minute to draw a dozen blades. It takes another to google ceremonial blades and another to browse through and pick something fancy to model after.

Bethesda employees were dikeing around with a speedrun contest BEFORE the game was released, they sure didn't have a spare minute...

Just because it's not impossible to use in a certain way doesn't mean it's a smart decision to use it in a certain way. If you need medicine and you have to choose between a pill that works once in 200 uses, and another which works in 499 out of 500 uses, then you both may work, but the latter is a lot more preferable. No one would consider using a screwdriver to hammer a nail, and that's in a situation where failure doesn't correlate with the possibility of your head getting chopped off.

Where were the ancient nords master craftsmen? They were, really not better then anyone else.. The daggers (Specially the "vikingdagger") is not authentic, not even close, not even a close replica.. Probably the only thing they got right on it were the wolf head's (Looks like it anyway). The nords (The vikings) were poor, where the richest were us from Sweden since we had the MAJOR trading city named "Birka" (Which i see from across the water btw :P). Nords did not use gems and such on something petty as a dagger, and certainly not in that ammount. Perhaps one gem on a sword for the chief. But thats it.. World has a twisted view on Vikings..

Glass weapons is probably also bogus :P

I have not tried that either, I just noticed that you can't make them.

True. I forgot to comment on the "viking" dagger in the OP. I haven't seen much in the way of knifes/daggers in relation to vikings except this http://slavia.internetdsl.pl/kram/baza/noze/scramasax.jpg, and they were mainly used as tools and not weapons. For that you'd have axes, spears or swords (the latter if you were wealthy and had status).

I feel its more unrealistic not to see these types of items. In all civilisations there are always artisans in most trades who create items/wepon's/armor with the artisitc merit in mind rather than for practical use. Cerimonal items mostly fall into this braket. Where are the artists, the master craftsmen in skyrim?

If you're unhappy with the design of the weapons in Skyrim and you're on the PC I can send you to a good http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1002.

I am a Nord, so naturally, I hate wearing elven gear. It doesn't make sense to me. Maybe it does to others, but not to me.

I am not satan, so I hate wearing Daedric gear. Not that the Daedra are supposed to be satanists, but Daedric gear looks like what the cliche tradional devil would wear. It makes me think of the devil from the movie "Legend" with Tom Cruise every time. God, I hate Daedric gear!
i don't think the Deadric looks bad - it does fit the stereotype "evil" look though - but the Ebony armor just looks bad-ass! Totally rockin. I would love to have a suit made for me in RL, it would be the best Halloween get up ever!

Because they were not aiming to make a Japanese RPG / anime-based game? I would expect something like that in Final Fantasy, not The Elder Scrolls.
There is a good number of fantasy jRPGs/anime with normal-looking weapons and for the companies going in this direction, their designs actually look MORE normal than western fantasy RPGs. Imagine Skyrim's iron sword or silver sword without any of the drauger (?) or glass or all those fantastic looking ones. Also it's better if you mentioned a more medieval-fantasy jRPG instead of weird technological mess like Final Fantasy (Final Fantasy of all, seriously?), when comparing with something like Skyrim.

Because they're not real Dwarves or real Orcs... they're both Elves, just like their 4 other cousins (High Elves, Dark Elves, Wood Elves and Falmer)

The Dwemer especially were named dwarves not by the rest of the races of Tamriel, but by the giants who first met them, so the name "Dwarf" simply refers to that difference in size...
Orc is simply a short version of Orsimer...
