The Unofficial Fallout 4 Thread -- What are your Thoughts?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 7:02 am

All right, one thread to rule them all. This is a place where you can post your thoughts, concerns, praises, anything and everything Fallout 4 related.

Personally, I'm hugely excited about this game. From the looks of it, the graphics are not up-to-par, but I'll hold reservations on that until more info and screen-shots come out.

The biggest thing I'm worried about is whether they're going to fully take advantage of PC hardware improvements, allow us with solid gaming rigs to push them to the max if we so desire.

I'm also interested in seeing how much they look into New Vegas for improvements to their gameplay, most notably the effect of choices in the game to fully affect the game world around them.

What are your guys praises and concerns?

We have an entire forum for doing just that, thanks.
No "one thread" takes precedent over another, unless we decide we need to consolidate one specific idea to its own thread.

We'll see what happens as we get more news :)

I understand that, but I think it's better than having one thread just about praises and one thread that is simply pessimistic. At least, that's what I thought when I made it. I thought it was a grand idea lol. Maybe I was wrong.

A pessimism thread is good because people can post what they don't like without being told they're not allowed to feel that way (which is what can often happen, sadly). I created the optimism thread because people no doubt like having a thread with no negativity and just pointing out the highlights.

What happened to the general discussion thread? That been abandoned in favour of the FO4 forum?

Yup. That's what the mod said when they locked it. This forum made it obsolete.

Now we have entire forum for general discussions.
We'll see what happens as we get more news, and the excitement calms downs. We may bring back an "official" thread for certain topics.

I disagree; I'd like somewhere to post general thoughts that don't apply to a specific thread and aren't worth creating threads about. But I guess I'll just post it where it could be considered relevant.

On the trailers, I actually think FO4 has the best trailer. FO3 was great, but the way FO4 was presented and built up was perfect for me. Not fond on the 'Come on, pal' part, though. Not because it's voice acting, but because it just doesn't fit with the scene in my opinion.

Fair enough :)

This so much. The NCR guy followed by Ron Pearlman followed by that piano bit work together perfectly to induce the maximum amount of chills.

It's like, if you know the flag then that's one awesome reveal. Then our main man The Narrator and a dramatic Fallout logo lighting up like a sign... I think I'm gonna dust off New Vegas tonight.

Rest in piece Fallout 4 speculation threads after 262 iterations. The good old days of constant bickering will never be forgotten.

As for the trailers, I don't remember any trailers from the original games, but between Fallout 3 and New Vegas is actually a tough one for me. Fallout 3 has a place as it was the first we'd seen of Fallout in years, and seeing it for the first time was quite a surprise. I speak of the teaser trailer that pans out of course. But I have to give it to New Vegas, cause it brought back even more memories after seeing an NCR freaking flag. Oh, that was awesome.

That's what I was thinking, just a general thread.

Ahhh, the good old days

I'm wandering where this takes place at? A couple of places I've been thinking and talking to the folks at GameStop that FO4 takes place either in Chicago, LA or New York.

TLDR: all that matters now is functional Co-Op
At first when watching the trailer, i was concerned that they had gone too realistic, but as the trailer continued, that retro future flavor Fallout charm began to work its way in.
First impressions are very good. Looks fantastic with an updated engine.
All that matters now is good writing, game mechanics (just use fallout NV craft-able items, weapon mods, different types of ammo, etc.), unique weapons, wild wasteland lols and Co-Op (Co-Op is what you play with your friends and they come along for the adventure).
**And if the devs need financial justification for the Co-Op feature - "Borderlands franchise".
Additional things i would like to see:
- The ability to have a house/property similar to the mod homes from fallout NV (my god they were amazing).
- Pilot-able Vehicles (only problem with this would mean that the Sandbox would have to be Huge - or make the vehicles slow and inefficient with late game mechanics enabling you to buy engine upgrades or required suspension for going over rough terrain etc.)
- weapon modifications (im thinking like the NV mod) except the ability to change scope types or round sizes even.
** most of this stuff can be achieved with mods as long as the engine has the support there**

I have been going through a lot of depressing stuff over the last several weeks, this trailer/teaser or whatever was unexpected. It was a nice surprise and I enjoyed talking about it a lot today with people in person and on the forums (the forums are alive again!) but over all New Vegas was the one I was most excited about. When I learned Obsidian was getting a chance to make a Fallout I remember going nuts. But as I said other factors could be taking the hype out of this news for me. There are some interesting things in this trailer that have my mind really going :fallout:

I disagree about co op. I've always loved the idea for The Elder Scrolls so I can explore with a friend or my brother, but Fallout is a survival game in many ways, so having co op just wouldn't fit. But feel free to share your thoughts on it, of course.

Maybe a thread should be dedicated to co op? I mean, it's quite controversial on these boards and can merit it's own debate.

I wouldn't mind a co-op options actually, maybe up to four players LAN. Of course, I'm all about the single-player experience, but I'm sure it's possible to invite your friends over for a little role-playing action, just like a regular tabletop pnp game.

Have you guys noticed that everyone in that trailer seemed to be going from interior/exterior spaces without the omnipresent load doors?

We've finally slayed the great beast of interiors being some pocket dimension. 1994-2015, the reign of terror will not be forgotten. :P

Sorry to hear that, Styles. You're a staple in the community whose posts are always a good read (it's actually your writings on Tactics that got me to replay and appreciate that game so much). I hope things get to looking up for ya. Hopefully E3 will give you even more good news to talk about. :)
