The whole Lockpick skill tree IS pointless

I find it easy overall but one of the perks makes it impossible to not get it open

Your just noticing lockpicking is pointless? Have you ever heard/played oblivion? LOL at easy Fallout 3 lockpicking.

No auto atempt? Humbug!

1) I svcked at Oblivion's lockpicking
2) It shoudl be a character thing and not the player skill

This
No lock bash, no open spell, just a mini-game that I will svck at
Good job I'm getting it for PC

It only makes them pointless if you intend on getting the Skeleton Key. My character isn't going to do the Thieves Guild questline, but he still has to open a lot of locks, that makes the perks pretty useful for him.
Oh here we go again.

You realize what you are doing? You are role-playing, not playing. There's a fine difference. You are deliberately limiting yourself in order to not make lockpicking perks pointless, much in the same way you had to limit yourself from making a 100% chameleon charcater or spam invisibility in oblivion. That doesn't in any way change the fact that it's broken and makes something pointless, which is exactly the case of skeleton key in both oblivion and skyrim.

It appears that sometime in the Thieves Guild questline you get a

"Masterkey", or a skeleton key. Lockpick that never breaks. Doesn't this make the "easier" perks useless?

It DOES make the easier locks perk pointless.. How could they do this to us.. Add the skeleton key again? F*

Just because someone loves to pick locks, doesn't mean they're going to have anything to do with the Thieves' Guild.

(I would always get the skeleton key in Oblivion, because it was just a Daedric shrine. But I can't see wanting to join the TG.... I rarely did in Oblivion. I've no interest in breaking & entering NPCs homes & robbing people. I lockpick to get through doors, chests, and traps in dungeons.)

My warrior has never leveled in it, but I've personally managed to open every single lock with my own skill using my controller, the master locks are hard, but it's all in finding that sweet spot before breaking all your picks first.
Well, I was rather happy to have some skills in lockpicking when I found those couple locked underwater chests :P Also, time continues while you are picking a lock so the faster you do it, the less time spent in the patrol route of a guard. Too bad from my experience it barely never happens like that :/

Last night I opened two Expert locks without hardly even trying. I have no perks in Lockpicking and I really don't see a point in ever doing it.

are the Golden Touch and treasure hunter perks pointless, they look very good no matter what character you play.

Fewer lockpick drops would make lockpicks more valuable. I have over 70 constantly so throwing away 4 or 5 on a master lock is no problem. Everything seems to drop one. I remember being lockpick starved at times in fo3 and obliv.

Its the stems of those tree's that are better. how can you say these are pointless

Locksmith - pick starts close to the lock opening position

Golden Touch- find more gold in chest

Treasure Hunter - 50% greater chance of finding special treasure

Quick Hands - able to pick locks without being noticed

Wax Key - automatically gives you a copy of a picked locks key if it has one.

Those don't sound so pointless to me.

i certianly wont put any points into it . I opened a master at 20 skill level and it took 2 picks and 30 seconds.

I'm glad they didnt make you spend points in it just to open locks though , happy the whole tree is useless rather than needed.

I say just remove the tree , definitely dont make it needed to open harder locks.

edit- poster above me does make some good points , it isnt useless , just theres better trees . I take back saying its useless.
