Not everyone likes to Role Play. I don't.

Firstly i thought it was an interesting idea and concluding how someone would act in a specific environment or situation of a topic on the internet without knowing the person is completely stupid and just plain dumb.

They already plan on adding the thieves guild later, but just because pickpocketing is lore friendly doesn't mean it needs to include pickpocketing other players. You realize the majority of pickpockets would be by players against their own faction instead of an opposing faction during PvP in Cyrodiil.

And...what is that suppose to mean? I can't like role playing games if I don't like to role play? That is the dumbest statement.

(P.S. people can still like RPGs and still not like to role play. OK dude?).

Not everyone who plays RPG has to enjoy roleplaying personally

They could just like being immersed in the world being a quiet observer is pretty fun.

Ever since the beginning I've heard several reasons why this game was just like Skyrim, or a lot like it. Like the ability to lift and move random items around you, for example, and being able to be anything you want.

THAT is why I've been so excited for this game.

Okay, how about a compromise then? A player can pickpocket to attempt to steal, regardless of friendly faction or not. If caught by anyone in the area (not just the person they're trying to pickpocket, but any possible witnesses, including NPCs), they get flagged for FFA PvP and on death their stuff goes up for full PvP looting, including storage, alts, and mounts.

There's a reason why MMOs don't let you rob other players like that.

Exactly. I love to be immersed in a world, but I don't RP my character. I never have and I never will.

Just because I don't like to RP doesn't mean I don't immerse myself in my games. Skyrim was a fantastic and beautiful game. I immersed myself into the game world, but I never RP my character during my time playing it.

Just because it has ROLE PLAYING in the genre name doesn't really mean that everyone RPs. Hell if anything the RPG genre has changed to just mean games that have character progression. Because I can think of many games that are considered RPGs, but would be damn hard to try and RP in them.

Stupid and plain dumb? And yet you assumed that everyone wants to play ESO because its an Elder Scrolls game and never considered that there are MMO players on here that have their own opinions. Wow what a double standard you have, making an assumption and then saying its stupid to make those assumptions.

By the way I have never played an MMO, but I have Skyrim. I assume the game will stay true to the lore but I also hope they incorporate as much of the previous Elder Scrolls abilities as possible. Pickpocketing other players is not one of those things, pickpocketing NPCs is fine, and I just consider that common sense.

There will never be player theft unless they make drastic changes to their vision of the game.

A player theft system requires PvP, as the victim must have the means and opportunity to both catch the potential thief and retaliate (if they want to keep customers, that is). This would require open PvP.

The only PvP is faction vs faction taking place in Cyrodiil, and Cyrodiil is the only place you will ever see members of other factions. Players from other factions will be attacking you on site there anyway, which makes player stealing pointless. And if you are going to have player stealing, why not graverobbing? If you can pick their pocket when they are alive, you should be able to loot their corpse when they are dead.

I didn't fail to see it, I've just been here a long time and I've transcended it. This isn't Skyrim: Online, its The Elder Scrolls: Online. The Online part is the important keyword here.

You could and you wouldn't be wrong, but they have to blend it with the MMO genre.

Pickpocketing equipped items or large items is definately big no no.

Pickpocketing small amount of coin or maybe potion or ingredient on the other hand would be doable.

But this would definately need a cooldown mechanic to prevent it to be used too often. Also a proctection timer for the victim to not suffer multiple pickpockets in short amount of time.

You'd be wrong, though. They're pretty equally important. Most people are losing sight of one side of the coin though.

They're going to have a crime system though, so whatever.

Such things aren't possible in current MMOs, the devs would never have the guts to launch such a system.

It's not that they don't have the guts, it's called they don't want to make a niche game. Completely different things.

Niche games = don't make a lot of money

Mass appealing games = tons of money made.

What would you rather have? A game that has a small loyal community and only making, let's say 1 million a year. Or a game that has a ton of people playing and making 100 million a year. Which do you think most people will take?

I still fantasize about a MMO where they launch two servers, one with traditional MMO mechanics (appealing to the masses) and a niche server, as you call it, which could have such things as a crime system.

Hey, guess what? They are adding a crime system in the game when they release the Thieves Guild. So don't worry, bud.
