They had Racism in Morrowind, where was it in Skyrim?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 12:52 pm

Morrowind, if I chose a certain race, i'd get a bunch of crap from all sorts of NPC's wherever I went and they were voiced on what they thought of me. What happened to this sense of immersion in the Oblivion and Skyrim?

Shouldn't my elf be hassled when I go to Windhelm? instead of just being accepted as a true son of skyrim? . . .

Edit: This is mostly about how they react to your character and not the NPC's themselves. Something to show difference in your own personal racial choice.

[Assuming you're playing the main quest] You're a dragonborn. They know that if they piss you off, you can shout them to bits.

I get hassled, though. I've had people say things like, "Another dark elf, just what we need" and stuff like that in Windhelm.

I hear comments running through towns. It is there, but it seems to depend on your location and the races you're around compared to your's.

If I were one of those people you're talking about in Windhelm, I wouldn't insult a Dovahkiin who may be the ONLY one that can stop Alduin and save my life.

Ah, see I figured playing an elven race in a nord infested land that I would of experienced it much sooner and more frequently. I noticed the gray quarter, but nothing done to me intentionally.

I play as a Khajiit and I was honestly hoping the guards would give me beef about entering some of the major settlements seeing how these Khajiit traders don't seem to be allowed inside. I guess some players would dislike that but I would have loved it.

There is tons of racism in Skyrim, just not towards your character.

You're stabbing in the dark here, and missing terribly. Redguard are allowed in Whiterun, they only kicked out the Ali'kir warriors due to the nature of their visit.

Nope. Bretons by the sound of their accents.

There's plenty of Nord racism.

Khajiit have to camp outside of towns.

The mer are harassed and living in squalor.

Argonians have their own little ghetto in the Windhelm docks.

And this, lol.

She is not a redguard, its says she is a Imperial on this wiki: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Adrinne_Avenicci

But there are plenty of Redguards in Whiterun and the reason those warriors was not allowed in was due to them being up to no good and probably for the protection of the lady they are looking for.

There are a few people in Whiterun that give you the dialogue option to ASK "What/Why is a Redguard in Skyrim?" I would hope that they are in fact Redguards, else that'd be an oddly placed dialogue choice. I was not convinced the Avenicci's were Redguards because. . .they're Avenicci's, that's not a Redguard name. However, Nazeem, and the guy you get the quest to retrieve his family sword (I forget his name -starts with an A?) are OBVIOUSLY Reguards.

I was really hoping in my playthrough that the Khajiit would be disallowed entrance to the city. I was a nord at the time, and noticed the Khajiit weren't allowed in - also that the Khajiit outside Whiterun that was a stealth trainer. I thought that they would have a way in secretly, not unlike the sewer system from say, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, where you have to sneak everywhere in town as a Nosferatu. That would have been pretty detailed and awesome. Sadly, that will only have to come about in a mod.

Not sure. I have only played Nord so far, so everyone is all 'Hello Kinsman' or something like that. There is plenty of racism towards certain races though like in Windhelm I think Dunmer are hated. Perhaps try going there as one and see what happens?

Lol. No clue which one is correct. Guess I'm not used to non-Redguard races being able to be so tanned (IIRC in Oblivion you couldn't modify the skin tone to be that dark on non-Redguards without mods). I normally play Dunmer or Altmer, though, so I have no idea if I'm just remembering wrong xD

But yes, I think your reason is correct. The woman pertaining to that quest does live in Whiterun, doesn't she? (Did that quest, but forgot which town it was in)

Yeah I wish there were better NPC reactions to your chosen race. Playing as a Nord should feel much different than playing as an Altmer, etc.

I would've enjoyed that. They don't let you in...UNTIL they discovered you were dragonborn.
