Is this going to be an over-hyped letdown like Brink?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 10:16 am

I try to stay away from the hype as much as possible so once the game is released I may not be as disappointed. Although, once E3 rolls around, the hype for this game will be decided on the gameplay and videos shown.

how can something be overhyped ?
They could promise things the game will not deliver but sofar they did not show any gameplay, that is the only concern.
Once they do I think everybody can judge for themselves. I really don't expect them to make a true "hardcoe" ( I'd rather say purist) stealth game.
It will be an option just like in DX3 but I don't think the main focus. How long has it been that there was a real pure stealth game ? since Thief.
Sneak or DIE.
That is a hc stealth game. Not those...you have options....or even third person so you can cheat your way through encounters.

One thing that irritates me about the way people have reacted to Dishonored since it was announced is people saying "It's like Assassin's Creed mixed with Bioshock!!!!"

Really? Assassin's Creed did not invent rooftops, or stealth for that matter. People that call themselves gamers complain that all that gets released these days is yearly installments of tired franchises, and then when an incredible looking new IP is dropped in their lap they can't see it as something original, only a spin off with a different name.

The game will meet its hype I think: other games that have been swallowed by their hype like Brink didn't have anything really going for them in the first place except "this feature" and "its not Call of Duty". From what we know about the team making it and the things you can do in the game, Dishonored isn't going to make that mistake.

The fact is that Dishonored is not focused to be a 100% stealth game. It's already said that it combines action and stealth, and that the 2 options will be great. Just like in DM.
Anyway, the next Thief and Hitman are supposed to be hc stealth games, and I bet that Dishonored will have more of stealth than these...

As long as they don't promise us a deadline like Skyrim and take their time to finish the game I don't think we have much to worry about.
So much this. Please don't rush the release date. I am really optimistic about the title. I have my worries of course but very talented people are working on it. I pray for it to be good. I have been waiting for a title like this for a very very long time. I pray not to be dissapointed.

I don't care for bugs if they aren't all that game breaking. The problem with development time is that they rush out the game in terms of story and gameplay. That means a lot of things are left out and some things feel arbitrary. Waiting more for the game doesn't bother me at all. And if Bethesda haven't pushed their marketing capaign we wouldn't be having this conversation.

The amount of advertisemant and word of mouth that is coming out for the past few weeks is really on the level. There are a lot of interviews and so on and I think they should push the envelope a month before the release. That said I don't think the game will be let down.

Rather than focusing on stealth gameplay only, they're also trying to include other gamers that are more into some action also. I think Dishonored have tons of potential and by the little I've seen and read it looks very promising.
I don't think Brink was over-hyped but hey thats my opinion. Brink was an excellent game but it didnt reach quite as far as it should. Brink had alot of awsome teamplay and worked really good. The developers should have used more time on Brink and delivered everything Brink was going to be. I found Brink to be an excellent game and was totally worth buying day 1. Allthough it had its flaws, a game is not simply about the graphics and beong glitch free and meet everyones expectations.

Ah, Brink. The game that shot for the stars but never broke the stratosphere. At least they were trying to innovate a tired genre....
