This is how I plan on playing Skyrim

I will do this, however not until I complete the whole game once. It will be quite a challenge!

x2

I'm not playing "Once your dead, your dead" untill few playthroughs. I'll play the rest as realistic as possible though.

Those are very good arguments right there. I'll reconsider the use of physical maps, not the 3D bird view one.

Also I'll change rule #1 to only loose all my equipment if I roll the minimum value required to survive.

What you could probably do, is find a copy of the map online and print it out (recommend quite a large map). Don't look at it until you get to a town and "buy" a map. Then with said map, you can use it to mark down caves and other locations that would not have been mapped. It would be still up to you to figure out where you are on the map, but at least it would give you a base map that most likely would have been mass-produced in those conditions.

And stay away from the 3D map and fast travel lol

Yep I've already printed said map and will only use it after reaching a big town the very same way you described.

Thx for the input.

I've gathered these ideas from http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1242490-hardcoe-role-play/ and http://anearthlinginskyrim.wordpress.com/the-rules/ about how to make the game more hardcoe/realistic and made some modifications. This is supposed to be the ultimate immersion experience.

So I set these 7 rules of engagement to fully enjoy TES v: Skyrim.

1 - Everytime I die I'll roll a six sided dice. The first time this happens I must roll 2-6 to survive. If I roll 1 it means I'm permanently dead and have to delete the character. The second time I need to roll 3-6 to survive and so on till I'm out of "lives". Also if I roll the minimum value required for survival then it means I barely escaped and have to drop all my equipment and money.

2 - I need to eat at least twice a day. Otherwise I'll be weak therefore I can't run (I hope there's a toggle walk button) and I will only be able to use the main (right) hand. So before I go into the wilderness I must make sure I have enough food with me (or do a Bear Grylls and eat some worms).

3 - I need to sleep at least 6 hours a day if outside or 4 hours in a bed. Otherwise the same rule for starvation applies: I will be too weak to run and I can only use the main (right) hand.

4 - I need to wash at least once a week. If I sleep inside I'll assume there's a tub and that I was able to wash myself and my clothes. If I'm out in the woods I'll have to look for a river or lake. Then I'll strip off all my clothes and leave them by the shore before taking a bath. If I don't wash for more than a week I'll have to eat 3 times a day instead of two to prevent getting sick. If I don't wash for more then two weeks I'll have to eat 4 times a day and so on.

5 - I will turn off the compass, quest markers and never use the in game map. I'll only orient myself using the sun, the stars (I'll have to learn that), road signs and a physical map. I'll make notes and draw maps in a journal to keep track of places I've been. Also I'll try and make notes of the quests I've been given so I won't have to use the in game quest book. I'll also make entries to the journal to keep track of time using this calendar. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Calendar

6 - I'll try and behave like I would in RL. I don't talk to every person I come accross in the street in RL, I don't knock on every door or storm random houses. I don't do whatever ppl ask me to do even if it's putting my life in danger. I migh do it if there's good money in it for me tho or I'm being asked by a pretty lady.

7 - I'll only take quests that offer good risk/reward ratio because due to rule #1 dying could have harsh consequences. Going out on quests will require some serious preparation. As for the main quest, I'll take on it naturally as the game progresses and only when I feel I'm ready for it.

So what do you think? Any other ideas that could make this more realistic/hardcoe/fun?

Edit: Changed rule #1 regarding equipment lost and #5 to allow the use of physical maps.

Interesting concepts on hard core
1. Wont stopping your game to roll a dice break immersion though? And should death be death. New character no matter what?

2. Just eating enough to keep up a highly active lifestyle you will need a high caloric diet.

3. 4 hours even in a bed isn't enough any athlete can tell you that before a strenuous day you try as hard as you can to nail that 8 hour or at the very least 6 hour sleep. Otherwise you won't hit REM for long enough.

4. Before you wash in a lake you should have to drop your entire inventory not just your clothes, or you risk ruining your foodstuffs and sinking to the bottom with the extra armor and weapons you are carrying.

5. This is pretty cool and actually what we used to have to do with older pc adventure games. I still have the tons of maps on graph paper I had to make.

6. I'm guessing in real life we all couldn't be adventurers some of us would have to work that 10 hour work day for one gold piece.

7. Also pretty accurate most of us wouldn't risk life in limb for the complete unknown, unless of course there was a chance we might come back to life.

This seems like a lot of work, but I can't knock whats fun for you. Sounds like playing old pc games are right up your alley though! Good luck and have fun!

point 4 makes no sense bathing is not essential to live and you can air bath by taking off your clothes in a breeze dont have to jump into a water

True. Though, you increase chances of getting sick while not washing it is true that you could go for a loooong time without a bath. Mentally, though, washing yourself is a real moral giver.
I wouldn't care about this rule. You'll come across an inn every now and then, which is more than enought to simulate taking a bath.

Because I want to be affraid of dying.
Disable auto-saves, then only make a save when you end your gaming session. Delete that save when you resume playing. If you die, you're dead.

So I set these 7 rules of engagement to fully enjoy TES v: Skyrim.

1 - Dead is Dead.

2 - I'll try and eat at least once a day when in the wilds or twice when in civilization. If I don't then I have to stop whatever activity I'm doing and start looking for food to emulate hunger.

3 - I need to sleep a little each 4 four days (4 hours in the wilderness or 6 hours in a bed or another safe place). Otherwise I have to stop whatever I'm doing and look for a place to sleep.

4 - With the dynamic weather system I must try and stay dry/warm whenever possible. that means looking for shelter during blizzards and storms or trying to dry my clothes after rain and crossing patches of water.

5 - I will turn off the compass, quest markers and never use the in game map. I'll only orient myself using the sun, the stars (I'll have to learn that), road signs and a physical map. Edit: Changed rule #1 regarding equipment lost and #5 to allow the use of physical maps.

Edit 2: Changed items 2, 3 and 4 as advised by Mr. Silverwave who's been in the army and have field experience on the subject.

Edit 3: Simplified rule number 1.

Nice rules. This makes it interesting for others who like to follow this rule, so why not?

I may actually follow through your rules and play Skyrim like that, feels much more fascinating then just playing it normally. Skyrim can be play ANY way you want it to be and this might of just caught my attention enough to follow through.

PS: quick question.....does it matter how many days go by etc....or how long you sleep?

Nope, you can go 3 days straight without any sleep and sleep for 6 hours and be as good as new.

I wouldn't worry much about it tho as so far it hasn't been any difficult to find food or a place to sleep.
