This just in, Crytek cares. (melee system) >now with poll<

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 12:13 pm

Let me make something clear. Whether the melee system is from a build before or after the 360 demo doesn't matter. Cry-Tom just stated they are using the new system mentioned in the OP. My points still stand that they listen to the community's opinions. It's a good sign for the franchise.

No he didnt, stop putting words in his mouth.

Hi guys,

I regards to the melee system, Crytek staff actually posted in the demo forums thanking people for their feedback and confirming it will be changed in the retail release :)

Nope, didnt say anything of the sort. As you can see all he says is that the system we saw in the 360 demo will be changed for the release version of the game. He doesnt state what the change will be, and he does not endorse your suggestion either. Until such time as Crytek actually state what the change is none of us can say for certain what it will be.

Lol I don't know why many of you are trying to push this into a debate. It's not a debate. Okay so it's going to be changed and you really think the melee system change we're seeing in the leaked build isn't that change? Ha what change are you expecting exactly? It's the most reasonable change possible and the most widely proposed in the forums. Just move along...

The leaked build was from before the Xbox demo.

This would be great. No more BS melee mechanics like CoD. I swear, there is nothing more annoying then being killed with a knife that hit me in the elbow from 10 yards away when I had full health.

There is just too much melee in CoD games. Hopefully this game won't be tainted by it.

Agreed. This is a make or break feature of the game. Vote on the new poll to show support for it.

People not knowing how to play ruins games. So now it goes from a futuristic battle to two dudes duking it out like drunk blind hobos desperately hoping to land a hit on the other until they both get shot by somebody else. Seriously thats what it will be like. If at the very least using proximity alarm will help you a lot if you are one of those people that tends to be my victim. Although the best mantra is be aware of your surroundings.

It'd be cool if they increased the sprinting a bit and making the slide able to knock down an enemy. ;)

No that's far from the truth. The melee system we saw in the 360 MP demo was laughable. What this is going to do is promote shooting over meleeing. OR if you love meleeing you can always do both (otherwise known as the two-piece). What you're going to see now is a variety of close quarters combat. Shooting should have the advantage and that's what this change will bring. Now if someone runs up to you trying to double melee you can counter it with some well placed shots.

That'd be awesome, but it probably wouldn't look as smooth as you'd hope. I'm not sure if you know this but you can slide kick an enemy. I almost pulled it off in the MP demo :D

1 hit melee is stupid. Period. Unless it is from behind. Even then it should be based on where the hit landed.

And you obviously never played Counter-Strike.

@peni5

Aww what a poor little angry troll. You want a hug little guy? Lol isn't it too early for trolls to come out? The games not even out yet. By the way look up what a port is. Crysis 2 isn't a port. It's released simultaneously on all platforms and it has substantially better graphics on PC.

Here's my reasoning. The problem with this game is not that the melee is overpowered. The problem is that the shooting is crap. Now if they fixed that then I would go for a different melee system. The melee may be laughable on the xbox 360, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than the shooting on the xbox 360. Honestly I wouldn't like being in a game where neither effective shooting or melee was an option. By promoting what you want that is what this game is doomed to be.

I really like it and I hope that this game is not broken by suggestions to problem that don't exist while ignore obvious one like that crap shooting phsyics.

nothing pisses me off more than dying because of one dumbass hit. hopefully the melee works if you hit your opponent once, you stun him for just a split second to blast him. and the opposition would still have a slight chance to smoke you.

Promote shooting by fixing shooting. Seriously a bogged down melee or better firepower? I think the choice is clear.

Shooting is fine with me. I mean I understand there's lag, but that's not unheard of in a beta. If you're talking about the bullet damage I think it's fine. It takes a fair amount of shots, but not an entire clip like people say it does. I'd probably bet most of "bullet damage" problems can be attributed to lag as well. We'll have to see how it turns out I guess.

So what change has actually been confirmed?

Are they actually going with the 2 hits from front and 1 from behind? If so, that sounds fair enough, and allows you to still use an emergency melee if you're losing the gun battle but have already landed a couple of bullets.. Attacking from behind speaks for itself, it should always be one hit kill.

..As for the armour, it's awesome that it allows you to take that many hits. If it stays that way, I'll be happy to give the unarmoured guys a boxing match :p

Theres no such thing as nerfing the melee in a First person SHOOTER, afterall maybe you should do more what the genre entails. I.E. shooting

You see this reply in just about every shooter forum. Yes, it's a shooter, but it's also somewhat an emulation of warfare and infantry combat. Funnily enough, if people are close enough to hit each other - especially if they're out of ammo - they WILL hit each other. It's one thing to charge the enemy (although the Ghurkas have been doing that for a long time if their gun jams etc), but to come up behind someone and kill them without bullets is ABSOLUTELY acceptable.

..Also, considering the nanosuits give you superhuman strength, taking out the melee would basically make that quality superhumanly retarded.

I dont mind the number of hits for melee but its the feedback system for the melee that bothers me.

Just doesnt feel like enought tactile(sp?) feedback is given for you to confirm that you melee the opponent.
