This just in, Crytek cares. (melee system) >now with poll<

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:31 am

We asked for a 2-hit-without-armor, 3-hit-with-armor melee system and by the looks and sound of it our wish has been granted. The reason I'm making this topic isn't only because I'm psyched they changed it, but also because it shows Crytek listens to its community. So, thank you Crytek. Leading up to release and beyond I'm sure there are many more thanks to come! Peace

Edit: I've included a poll to gauge your opinions.

Leaked multiplayer gameplay vids. I would post them here, but out of respect for Crytek I won't.

"old, buggy build" my ass, lol. more like "last weeks buggy build"

But really, what you're looking at is probably LAG, and players punching players using ARMOR LOCK.

Nope. I've seen it in multiple videos by different people. It's always the same number of hits too. 2 hits without armor and 3 hits with.

He's right. Still a 1 hit kill from behind, stealth execution style.

"This just in: I think Crytek listens to us because I saw videos of which I think prove a game mechanic".

Awesome.

It's a fair conclusion to come to that it's a permanent change. They test a new idea vigorously and if it's approved they save it in the build. That's more than enough verification for me.

I'd rather wait & see the final build before making conclusions.

It's unconfirmed, but if nothing at all, the leaked build shows that they recognize there is a problem and have found or are looking for a solution. My points in the original post still stand.

That would be really disappointing. There are better ways to balance melee other than to nerf it into the ground for those emergency situations. Increasing the recovery animation as well as removing the lunge would have been fine.

No I feel that even without the lunge it would be overpowered. If you mean increase the time it takes for the second melee that wouldn't remove the problem of being hit unexpectedly by a guy camping around a corner in stealth mode. Honestly the new system that's mentioned in the original post is perfect. This promotes good gameplay without making meleeing impossible. Now the guy meleeing doesn't have a complete advantage over the defender.

I did not mind the one hit. wasn't a huge deal. The only problem I had is when a melee didn't register. I have been playing the KZ3 beta and I realy enjoy the melee sytem. The uniuqe brutal melee are realy fun. I think Crysis would be a great game to use a system more like that. Also KZ3 game modes like Operations, and WarZone. I think every shooter should incorprate modes in that fashion.

Neither of those changes would prevent Cloak corner camping.

You guys are really going all out with this project and listening to your community were other developers just ignore us!

your doing a stellar job and although I feel bad that ive watched the leaked gameplay............ but it actually made me upgrade my pre-order to the nano edition!

I really like how youve done this, we are closer to putting the shooter back in first person shooter!

Oh boy I failed.
Anyways, I think it should take atleast 2 or 3 strikes, since they are fast as hell anyways.

Honestly, I've had zero problems with the current melee system. Just use cloak tracker and proximity alarm, you'll never get melee'd.

That said, it's not a big deal either way. I don't think you should be relying on melee's in a FPS.

it takes around 12 melee hits to kill someone face to face if he uses maximum armor
2 hits if he doesn't use maximum armor
1 from behind (assassination halo style)

in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnNXwBtCqYQ of leaked game, at 3:23 he gets into a melee fight
sometimes he misses, but you can tell cause hit marker flashes inside his crosshair

it is sad and fun at the same time to watch those vids

Anybody think maybe this build is from before they changed it to a 1 hit system in the 1st place?

^ This

according the .exe date from the leaked file, it was 13th January.. which means this was before the X360 MP demo..

so how would they have changed it, when the complaining wouldn't have even started since no one knew about the melee system..

Erm..
The build is from BEFORE the 360's MP demo, so, no, they didn't listen to you.
