Of course! It's like leaving the battery in my laptop when I leave it at home! Wouldn't want the other 1/2 actually seeing my browser history... Wait... I think there are batteries available at any store... Oops!

You ain't kidding about #2. I have 3 Brahmin currently at Sanctuary and, during our recent super-mutant attack I was actually surprised to see 12 armed people around their pen taking down every single mutant that came anywhere near! Even Mama Murphy!
Fortunately I had the other dozen or so taking care of the rest (with help from my turrets, of course).
?????? what ?????? how the hell does it take away from the lore? it makes perfect sense. PA need fuel, fuel make you go. That would be the first mod i never download. Along with the fact that cores are EVERYWHERE. I, along with many, many, many others, love the new system. The old power armor system is what didnt make sense. It shold not be considered the same as normal pieces of armor and clothing. So i think you are the one in the time-space anomaly
Be sure to park'em where others can't reach them then
Stole a Raider PA last night. It was just sitting there so it's obviously mine, even if it does say Steal instead of Enter. It's at my Red Rock fort with the others.
My own flamed, pampered set lives downstairs. None have Cores in them.
It doesn't make sense, lore wise, because cores last for hundred years+ That's why they used them in the first place. Only function core durability have in the game, is to balance out the PA, same goes for the individual armor pieces that can get damaged. No other armors gets damaged in the game, that ougtha tell you something.
Too bad you cannot do to your Power Armor what Mad Max does to his gas tank on his car. Anyone tries to steal his gas, they get blown up.
No, you're thinking of the INTERNAL power source that post T45 models had. Those were said to only last 100 years, according to lore. These fusion cores can't be the same power source as they obviously aren't internal. It's not outside the realm of possibility that an auxillery power option was available, after the internal power source depleted. Really, the part that wasn't lore friendly was that the PA used in previous games was still running on internal power.
Early models of T-45 did not use cores at all nor "internal powersource", but Energy cells similar to those you find in laser weapons and they burned through those rather quickly, as explained in the wiki. They later got retrofitted with compact micro-fusion cells, which are those that last 100+ years, that by all means, is what cores is replicating in FO4. Fusion Cores as a thing, is never mentioned afaik before FO4.
Which is more or less what I said... I don't understand how people are saying this isn't 'lore friendly' since there isn't any chance the original PA's with internal power source should be functional at the time of Fallout 4. So something had to be done. Why not repurpose the same fusion cores that were used in generators and gatling lasers? This is a new concept to the Fallout world but not one that can't be explained pretty easily. I saw someone get upset in another thread saying these weren't lore friendly because the original power sources were supposed to last 500 years... What? haha
Ok, this is nitpickey of me, but BGS has actually owned the IP for over a decade.
I just don't have any settlers at my main base lol. The red rocket gas station. I can leave anything anywhere and nobody touches it! It's like my own little patch of heaven.
**THIS JUST IN**
It can still be stolen, even if you took the core out!! It's just far less likely.
My weapon & ammo merchant spawned a fusion core in her inventory one day, which I did not buy because I have like 50 of the damn things. So, it was still in her inventory when a Deathclaw rushed the gate.
She beelined for my X-01, powered it up herself with her own core*, and kicked the #@$% out of the 'claw.
Best part is, after I politely asked her to get out, she left the core in. You could call it a freebie, but I think of it as a "rental fee".
* it really was the same core- when she returned to her booth I checked her wares, no FC to be found.
edit: additional example: a provisioner hopped in one that had no core. I had a couple cores in the workbench, ergo he had access to them.
I use the Red Rocket as my base. A while back I had something like 60 cores in a box, and 9 empty PA's standing around, one fully equipped and ready to go. There's a bunch of companions living there, no settlers, just companions. Got attacked by mutants and behold, a companion actually went to the box, took 45 or so of the Cores and entered the ready to go PA.
The first time this happened I had to ask them to leave the armor, and then I tried to trade. The 45 cores were nowhere on them, just gone. Had to reload and take the cores out of the box before the mutants arrived.
The second time this happened the companion actually had the unused cores on them, so I could just trade them back.
Really wish there was some kind of lockable container they couldn't access. And yes, I know the don't wieght anything so I could just carry them with me, but meh, roleplay and stuff. I only carry what I think I'll use and a reasonable amount of it, the rest is sorted nicely in various containers "at home"
They snatched it from Troika in 2007.
Read the description of power armor in Fallout 2.
I like it. Another small feature that reminds you that the world is not made just for you. I lost my first power armor to a settler and learned my lesson. BTW I also like the depleting fusion cores and frankly said everything else around power armor although I use it only for the big problems. I'm ok with the need to get out of the armor for some fine motor skills, I actually like the in and out animation. My only small nickpit is optical, I would like it when your actual body were visible through the power frame if you don't use power armor pieces on it.
My base is Red Rocket because I give a damn about the settlements. Only my dog and the robot are there in addition to 8 machinegun turrets. I like it when there are attackers, just relax and watch. Nevertheless I always take the core out of the power armor if I'm not in it.
However, what would be nice were a lockable bunker as a possible base, like the one where the one lost BoS paladin is hiding. It should also protect against radstorms what Red Rocket does not. A lockable place would be especially important when my mod wish would become true, weight for ammo and cores.
I take it you are quite young and never actually owned a car?
Safe storage in fallout 4 is both a nightmare and cool at the same time. Cool that it works like nothing is really safe unless you hide it in a un-respawning cave (which I have yet to find or even know if one exists), or something and a nightmare for us hardcoe hoarders that the game certainly seems to be made for.
...is my game bugged or something? I've never had a settler steal my power armor. Granted, for immersion reasons I often pluck the core out anyway, but I've left my "backup suits" and earlier models behind in Sanctuary for decoration and no one has touched them. Three suits, just sitting there, what gives?
Also never had super mutants attack. I set my defenses up to deflect just about anything, and nothing comes. Got so annoyed at that I spawned a couple super mutant behemoths just to see if my defenses could take them. They did.
