Do I really have to take the fusion core out of my power armor each time I park it and get out? I've lost two armors in base when I came back from missions and because they weren't my main armor I let it go. But still, do I really have to remove the fusion cores each time I park an armor, even if I'm running around town doing shopping or getting quests?

Yes you do, because the settlers (and other npcs) are programed to steal. Hell I can't even keep a pack of smokes on a table in my house because some mooching settler will walk in and take it.

Here's what I do...I built a platform above ground and parked all my PA on top..just turn the staircase sideways so nobody can get to them..haven't had any stolen yet..

Don't tell me you haven't jumped into a fully functional power armor you just saw laying about?

If you leave armour and go away to another location then yes, you do need to take the keys out of your car. Makes sense. If shopping in the same settlement then no.

We've been asking Bethesda for this for over a decade and now that we have it...

I for one love it!

You don't have to. You don't have to lock your car either ;)

Park it somewhere where it's inaccessible for NPCs? Although disabling this feature (PA needing fuel) is one of the first mods I'd install. It's not only pointless busywork, but it's also against the lore.

Who is we? Do this "we" live in some time-space anomaly? Or is my clock wrong? Surely they don't own the IP for over a decade.

At least with PA there's an easy fix for theft by removing the core.

I boarded up the Red Rocket near Sanctuary, slapped down a couple chests, and populated it with no one. It's my warehouse, so I can store my custom, legendary and unique weapons where they won't be stolen.

@ Logan6: have you looked for your smokes UNDER THE FLOORBOARD. Items placed by the player have a bad habit of spawning in the wrong place when the area is next loaded. It's a carryover bug from Skyrim that affects about 80% of items. It's a real shame as I love to decorate my digs with liquor and weaponry. Almost lost a full set of T60 PA when I laid all the parts out on a table next to an empty PA frame.

It does get annoying once I started using pa more. Not sitting at some computers no crafting and hud is so different and the transparent screen.

Not familiar with any of Beths other titles? I was referring to the NPC AI being able to utilize the game world to nearly the same degree as the PC.

@B Wald, thanks for the insight, I'd forgotten about spawning problem. Still that's as annoying as someone stealing stuff.

Oh, I thought you meant expanding the functions of power armour. Never mind then :)

Well it used to be that in order to wear Power Armor you need to be trained. It seems all NPC's are proficient in using PA lol. I tried a floating base, believe me they still get to it somehow. I have since removed all Fusion cores and not had any stolen, not a huge deal once you know.

It's more like you needed training in order to be ALLOWED to use power armor. Like me Beth probably thought it was silly to have an actual physical limitation. I mean you don't need training to drive a car.

Yes, it is.

Last winter, a friend of mine was in her dorm and had to run to the store. The thing is: it was freezing cold. She left the group and ran down and started her car to let the heater warm it up. She came back up and was talking to us until her roommate asked her if she'd locked her car door. She was like "No, because the keys are in it. Why?"

Her roommate: "Because your car's gone."

Yeah.

I wouldn't mind just one door we could lock. I'm not doing settlements, I just have a hideout at the first red rocket. Not sure if raiders will try to steal my PA, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. So, I just put a half wall in front of the doorway. No one in or out but me, without the need of building some elaborate tower and removing stairs.

The computer thing has been confusing me. I could have sworn that the first time I tried to use a computer while in PA, I got a message stating that I couldn't do that. Since then, I've been reading terminals and hacking without getting out of my PA, and I haven't had that problem again.

In Fallout 3, all the (humanoid) NPC companions could wear PA with no training, so that limitation seems to only have ever applied to the Lone Wanderer.

I always remove my power core to be safe. Settlers will only grab the armour during an attack, but raiders can also take it. I learned that the hard way in the Corvega factory. I got out of my armour to try and find a way up to the office area (didn't see the button to extend the walkway at first). While I was up there, a few more raiders wandered in, and one of them stole my T45! That was also when I learned that if someone dies in PA, you can't take back the frame.

This is why I built a giant tower on top of the red rocket, set meself up, placed the fast travel marker in front of a workbench on one of the highest levels then deleted the stairs up to it. Now nobody can get up here and my little power armour museum is safe.

Whats really fun is your settlement getting raided and a raider jumps into your PA and takes off with it. Sounds like a successful raid there.

I did leave one frame standing, which my guard Settler climbed into.

I've given them a set of T-60 and a Minigun.

My settlement is impervious to attack.

I learned the hard way that settlers can "borrow" your power armor.

There was a brahim walking around my settlement, which I really hated because it was jamming doors all the time. So got tired of him and shot him in the face with my shotgun, thinking I could cook myself a nice steak dinner.

Out of the blue a settler ran, took my power armor, and came back to me and sent me to heaven.

Learned two things:

1. Settlers love Brahim so much that they could even kill their own leader if you hurt one.

2. Settlers know how to use power armor. They got trained in the class "Brahim Protection 101".

Wow I really like the idea of putting a tower with no stairs and having the fast travel point up there. Then you can jump in a power armor and leap off! Great idea. Wish I could have quoted whoever said that, but I guess internet explorer is broken or something.
