This is the single player "game of he century"

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 10:24 am

I said only that its far from revolutionary

Revolutionary? Maybe. That kind of title is reserved for games like Super Mario Bros and Final Fantasy 7, the real game changers.

But innovative? Yes...Skyrim is incredibly innovative and improves on the basic TES formula that I've come to know and love. And IMO its the best RPG I've ever played.

Well excuse me for disagreeing, but i think its a buggy God awful mess. Instead of pushing 11/11/11 so hard, they should have set a soft release date, so they could delay it another couple of months to fix the stupid number of bugs, poor AI, and non-existent PC UI. There is nothing revolutionary about Skyrim so far, and while i can see some consolers wetting themselves over the visuals, its painfully average for what PC users have been accustomed to. Even Oblivion had a better UI than Skyrim, and thats saying a lot. The AI runs around in circles, get confused when the player approaches a door- which is painful to watch when the AI is chasing you in combat. Then you have the awfully low res textures for most objects when inspected up close. Skyrim is a painting, best admired from afar, rather than looking at the details.
And yet despite these technical flaws, it still manages to be great :)

I have to agree.

There's just so much to see and do!

I love all of the little details, for example I went into a pub and wanted to speak to a man at the bar.

So I went up and sat at a bar stool causing the waitress to come wandering over and ask me what I'd like to drink :D

Best TES game so far.
Thats from someone who has played them all from Arena (before some smacktard shouts "stop hyping the game")
The content, lore, visuals, mechanics, freedom, hell, even sheer size, it`s just superb. Great job :foodndrink:
+1
After ~30h of gaming on PC, I have the same feeling... Imo, Skyrim seems to be the best Bethesda game ever.
The more I play, the more I'm amazed

But the enormous work on the atmosphere, on the quests, on all the little details, in short on the game itself, is in total opposition with the menus design and UI in general.
I really do not understand how there can be such a contrast...
Even a mod will certainly not solve all the bugs, errors, and missing features of the UI. Bethesda would have to resume from scratch...
It hurts my heart to see a so huge work marred by the UI.

I never said it was a bad game, because its not. I said only that its far from revolutionary, and has many problems plaguing it. I would rate it 8/10, a good game overall, with many problems. It doesn't help that the degree of hype has destroyed the minds of people though..

Couldn't disagree more. Game is fantastic. Best open-world game ever.

I agree as well. I spent almot 4 hours last night just exploring Whiterun, talking to all the npcs and everything they had to say, doing the various quests within the city. Bar brawls are so fun. The scenery from the mist on the mountain tops to the streams and waterfalls with salmon jumping, is simply amazing. I am only level 5 but I dont even care if I get any more levels haha.

This is by far the most beautiful and immersing game I have ever played. This has exceeded my every expectation. Yes there is some major gripes like UI problems but overall I can overlook that until some modder fixes it or a patch comes out.

Thank You Todd Howard and the rest of the Bethesda team for giving me a masterpiece for a long time to enjoy!

Someone will surely say that daggerfall was better because it had more skills.

I honestly think Skyrim beats all previous TES. I just hope it has enough quests to match my apetite for it! :vaultboy:
Todd said that there are unlimited side-quests... so you can kinda play forever ! :celebration:

This is not only the game of the century, its a game that will last you a century! It also has the hardest quests ever made. Sure Darksouls demands timing and execution, and super meat boy requires mind numbingly many tries to get it right. But none of those games require you too walk past a million awesome things to get from point A to point B. Took me 5-6 hours to get to Whiterun! Oh a butterfly!Oh a deer!Oh a dungeon!OHGODWHYISTHISBEAREATINGMYFACE?!?Oh look at the pretty flowers! Im loving every single second of it, despite the horrible console port UI :P

Atleast I now know there are hotkeys for your favourite items (1-9)

Pardon my enthusiasm, but I'm enjoying this too much to keep it to myself. Hell, I've already killed off three companions by sticking my nose where it's too early too belong. The side quests are amazing and they took (stole) enough from "Gothic" to turn this game into the "GOTC"(century) IMO. This is the best single player game I've ever played, including Morrowind. I never thought I'd be able to say that.
What exactly did they take from Gothic? I haven't played any of the series.

I do agree completely. The environments are astonishing. Rather than a carpet of grass and stones, there are actual mountains. The snow blowing off the cliffs when you're up there, High Hrotgar standing above Whiterun... The doors open slightly when people go through, the companions don't do kamikaze runs and die all the time, and all the other small improvements. They took Oblivion, reverted the aesthetics to Morrowind and refined them. I'm playing it on Xbox and I have to say that the graphics are truly great, perhaps rivaling those of AC. But the gameplay is also improved tons of course. Oblivion was already among the best games IMO, Skyrim tops them all!

Agreed 100%, I'm loving walking into town and having people try giving me 100 quests to do, I'm having so much fun, I can't stop playing!

I always thought that Bethesda had reached their peak with Morrowind.I was wrong.
I've been gaming since the mid 80's and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the best game I've played barring none.Morrowind still wins in the unique scenery department and it will always have a special place in my heart but Skyrim just topped it in every other department imo.

For me it was Oblivion. It was the pinnacle fantasy game. A joy to behold in that it was a visiual feast, addictive to play and ground breaking.

I like Skyrim but i find myself strangely affeceted by minusing sword block from dual wield, the cheap console port UI and flouride-esque IQ dropped character build and level up, minusing the avatar from inventory another minus to immersion that made obivion great and the typical concept art facination with everything grey for a world pallete is BORING to the eye.

that said i think the game is good.. im playing it after all. but it couldve been great.

i think we are all looking to the modders now.

About 10 hours in so far and i can safely say that this is the best TES game I have ever played and I have played them all. It has even usurped the throne of my beloved Daggerfall. I just wish the UI was not quite so consolezed for PC but even here it is much improved over the horrid UI of Oblivion.
