Why do people think that an MMO flopped unless it beats WoW in subscriptions or sales?
Because MMO's are dead? I mean i didn't seen any significant innovation there since wow. And ESO is nothing more than a cash cow that they can milk for a year before it flops.

Worst part is that in the article, they wrote that the game will appeal to those familiar with MMO's and even have the same game mechanism as other MMO games. :nope:

Yes that's not very original. They should aim @ TES fanbase not other mmo's. TES fanbase is big enough to make it successful, I mean look at Skyrim sales. Trying to compete WoW or other mmo's is wrong. They should focus on TES lore and TES fans.

Innovative? Where did that come from? I hope it fails so they realize that gamers WANT innovation, and not yet another MMO based on WoW's mechanics.

-No quest hubs - dynamic content in an explorable world.
-Combat that involves dynamic blocking, sprinting, CC breaking, combo chains - all based on an edurance pool that you have to manage
-Persistent PVP zone in which 3 factions vie for many capture points: farms, towers, keeps, cities
-No more holy trinity: any group of 5 decent players can handle content
-No 'aggro' mechanic - mobs behave with intelligence and use strategy against groups

I could go on, but really, just exercise some reading comprehension and you can see that these guys have some great ideas, and the game started devleopment in 2007. Don't tell me it isn't innovative.

Why do people think that an MMO flopped unless it beats WoW in subscriptions or sales? MMOs always start with more subscriptions than they keep over time.

Except EVE that has been growing for years because its the only mmo that tries to be original.

I fully respect EVE Online originality in this competitive MMO space
and they have proven that originality is profitable.

Really looking forward to their Dust 531 idea, now THATS innovation!

Matt Firor, learn from them.

That's my main view as well. There's already a huge audience in love with TES' gameplay mechanics. Why throw it away for something generic and done-to-death? It's not even just these forums reacting so badly to the news. It's everywhere.

I'm personally cautiously interested in this. It all depends on one thing: The combat. Will it be boring special ability spamming and auto-attacks? Then I'm not interested. Been there, done that, boring. But if the combat is interesting and different than other MMO's I've played... Who knows what will happen.

However, EVE's start has been quite rocky as well. Their model wasn't successful from the start.

It was successful because CCP was a tiny company at the start, and didnt need a massive number of subscribers to be successful.

To be fair I'm trying to keep an open mind but it just seems like a generic MMO with, other than the location and lore, nothing at all like TES... No real time combat?! No first person?!

This could be a TESaster

From what I've read about it, EVE is a different success. Its team is small, the amount of servers they have is small and their fanbase is passionate and loyal. Most EVE fans, only play EVE as their mmo.

The company doesn't require so much money a month so a slightly smaller fan base (which EVE Does have compared to other big title mmos) works for them and they are fine with that.

What the hell were they thinking? Are you out of your F**** MIND? Because this WILL flop and it WILL flop badly, we won't have a true ES MMO anytime soon. You can't just say this is the excecutives's fault. Did no others employee in Besthesda ever think of pointing out for those egghead that a WoW clones are destined to fail? Seriously, Besthesda, you've been making ES for years. Yeah I know Zenimax something something makes it but they probably have to report to Besthesda. How come Besthesda just decides to throw away every things that made up the ES series just to make a WoW clone? Do game publisher nowaday love to throw their money down the drain? I thought everyones love money.

There are plenty of open threads to express your distaste for this game. You may select one to add your thoughts on the matter but when you do I suggest you not bypass the autocensor as we do warn and suspend for such as per our forum rules. Threads made just to add a rant do not leave room for discussion and we don't allow them.
