Once and for all.

I just have always thought of it in my mind as ESO. Maybe it's how my mind compartmentalizes things. I don't know. But the single player games are TES and the MMO is ESO.

But really I don't think it matters. You could say TESO or ESO and everyone here will know exactly what you are talking about.

If you really like TESO, call it TESO. I don't mind.

I have my reasons for not wanting ESO to be the main name for it, but I don't care to disclose them here. Just wondering what the general consensus is overall.

ESO for me because its shorter.

The official (T)ESO Homepage says "ESO" so I'll stick to that.

I know I shouldn't mention a game that is dead to me, but WoW is not TWoW even though it's The World of Warcraft.

It makes sense not to include The in the abbreviation.

But we call it "TES" for The Elder Scrolls. And then we tack the Online at the end and suddenly ditch the T because 3 letter abbreviations are simpler than 4 letter ones

Because it's not just any elder scrolls. It's the elder scrolls. Other wise it would just get confusing.

However, there is only one elder scrolls that is online, so we can drop the The.

I mean really, how many people really need to say The Batman. Just sounded silly in the movies.

Sure you could argue that we say The Hulk. But the Hulk is not a name, it is describing a thing.

Okay, sure you could then say The Elder Scrolls are things.... so I would respond.

TES ... Online should be TESO, of course! That said, it's an issue when some sites/retailers aren't sophisticated enough to disregard initial articles when alphabetizing titles.

Because ES is just to short, they included "T", ESO is long enough without it, so they dropped it.

I think the Official name is really The Elder Scrolls Online. Similar to howthe games are called:


TES III : Morrowind
TES IV : Oblivion
TES V : Skyrim
TES O : The MMO

When i'm explaining the game to someone that doesn't know about it i say The Elder Scrolls Online. When i'm talking about it with other ESO lovers i'll say ESO. I have never said TESO, and probably never will, because it's sort of weird to say. I don't really mind any of them.
