Todd Howard on multiplayer

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:17 pm

Remember this quote from Todd Howard?

"You can never say never to anything like that," he admitted, "but it's not what our focus is. This type of game is where our hearts are, what we get excited about, and that's what we want to focus on. We don't want to lose that focus and we never want to sacrifice anything in the singleplayer game just to have it be multiplayer."

This is to people who are afraid the MMO will kill the main Elder Scrolls games.

Good thing they're not doing this, then. Zenimax Online is.

But this is soley Zenimax Online Studios, Bethesda Game Studios has nothing to do with it.

Todd isn't working on it. At best he's just overseeing it.

Yes, and it has no bearing on the announcement. Howard works for Bethesda and the mmo is being developed by ZOL.

ZOS is developing it, not BGS.

Bethesda Game Studios isn't working on a multiplayer game, this is being developed by Zenimax Online Studios. In fact ZOS was probably founded because they wanted to pursue an Elder Scrolls MMORPG but didn't want this to be the focus of BGS.

ESO could very well have no effect at all on the development of single player TES games like we know them.

The point remains that the SP games won't be ruined.

Yes, I remember this quote. That's why I'm happy to see that neither Todd Howard nor the rest of BGS team are working on TES Online. A smart move that was, trust ZOS with making the MMO and let Bethesda focus on single-player games.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the OP is trying to say exactly that. That Bethesda will still be developing single-player Elder Scrolls game no matter what, and this MMO changes nothing.

Yes, the point of this thread is that the Single player games will continue to be made as normal.

Different studio, different game.

This will likely not effect new TES games. There is nothing to worry about, the best bet is to hope they took this MMO in a good direction and made it smooth (most new MMO's die due to clunkyness in movement/combat).

I hope these guys won't make a bad game and bad publicity for TES as a franchise.

Thank you. I hope it's still true. :)

I'm not afraid it will kill TES, but I'm afraid it will kill...some mysteries. I'd rather have Bethesda and only them design the parts of Tamriel which are yet to be seen.

Would be fun to see of some of the BGS devs play the MMO, however.

Can you imagine fighting Todd Howard in PvP?

That's another plus to not having BGS make the game.

Ha, I misread it as 'Todd Howard in multiplayer'. Kinda expecting all sorts of inventive yet gruesome what-will-you-do-to-Todd-when-you-meet-him suggestions.

Carry on then.

I take it "Fus Ro Dah" is off the table for this time period?
