Tonight on Skyrim's Mystery's...

Nope this character doesn't do the Main Quest. i haven't done any MQ missions except Unbound with this character.

Could still be a dragon. There's a word wall nearby with a dragon guarding it. Maybe you strayed just close enough to trigger the dragon's flight, yet far enough away for it not to attack.

Dragons don't trigger until the quest where you defend the watchtower near Whiterun. not even word wall dragons. i know because the treasure chests have good loot in them but mostly it's just bandits or wolfs there. also you don't know which part of The Reach i was in.

Were you in that 'Abandoned House' (or whatever it's called) in Markarth? Even if you go in there, then leave after going further in, You get a rather annoying shakin' of the screen...

mmm this is a mystery I have covered very inch of Skyrim and have this happen only once and that is when a dragon was being awoken from its grave a few ranges over from me near the western corner of the map by the sky temple but you are not that far into the quest so I have no answer.

Hmm, I have also had this happen to me. It was on my first and main character, as I was following the Khajiit caravan from Whiterun to Markarth. I think it happened around Fort Sungard. It was, as someone else said, similar to when the Greybeards call you, but wordless. Scared me half to death, started looking around wildly for a dragon, but there wasn't one, or any other enemy for that matter, anywhere near us.
I looked around on the internet, but I still have no idea what it was.

I got this last night as I crossed the border between Whiterun and The Reach - on the road between Fort Sunguard and Lost Valley Redoubt. My controller rumbled and the screen shook, which felt very much like an earthquake. There was not a soul around and I'm wondering if this is just a little easter egg or something put in by the devs, or if it is story related?

There seam to be frequent earthquakes in the Reach. Vlindrel Hall in Markarth is my primary house, and stuff goes shaking in there quite often. Now you got me thinking - maybe I should ask Scouts-Many-Marshes to move to a house in a safer region.

Ok OP, it was prolly a rockslide because I was in the mountains when I stumbled upon a destroyed refugee caravan. 3 dead and a killed horse were partially buried in rocks.. I entially thought it to be bandits until the rocking motion began and rocks fell down the mountain. The only odd thing is, is if people are telling the truth, than it could be something unexplainable... these have happened to me only after patch 1.4..... how bout u guys?

Talk about timing, this thread coming back to life the very day this happened to me again!

I was walking north along the road from Falkreath where it goes down a hill before reaching the crossroads to Whiterun/Markarth when I heard a rumble and then camera shake. No sound of falling rocks and even after tcling around with grass turned off, found nothing. No avalanche, no new rock piles, no dragons, nothing out of the ordinary. I was in first person mode when it happened, but the animation my character seemed to be doing is the one where you stun somebody with duel welded destruction spells (the stagger).

Spoiler
The dragon mound(s) near there were not involved as I hadn't done enough of the main quest for them to be affected

I know of one corner slightly south of the Sky Haven Temple, near a cave, on a path leading away from the river up the hill to an ancient ruin. There are three trolls nearby, too. The camera view can get stuck at some rocks and jumps between two distances, making it look much like an earthquake. I passed there a few times and it happened to me twice. Sometimes one can find Spriggans near the location.
