Too few Classes too few differences

Post » Thu Jan 23, 2014 5:06 am

I have read about the four different classs , but to me they look a bit few and actually all are mages of some sort....

I would like to see some classes of pure warriors without useless buttons to press in battle but just abilities that powers your martial skills ,

Leave the buttons to mages and strange performers , free the fighters from the magics...

I miss the oldclass system of morrowind ...
http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Classes_(Morrowind)

With specialized classes like barbarian , bards, archers etc....

The terms used like dragonknights make no sense to me if you cannot ride a dragon or have any relation to them.

Also shouln't some classes be more specific for a particular culture?

For example a berserker or barbarian could be only cor nords, a templarmor ordinator could be only for dunmer , a mage specialist of some kind only for altemer or for breton and so on....

I would really like to see more different classes and less flattening of all to a mage with different colored effects on button pressing.

This topic has been discussed many times. Feel free to use the search feature of the forums.

Additionally you build the classes how you want, so if you desire to build a weapon specialist that does not use spells that is available to you.

Trust me when I say that the dragon knight feels "dragony" enough to satisfy ;)

The classes is mostly templates, I agree that the dragonknight and templar look a bit to simlar else they are decent, other option would be to drop classes.

Game morks totally different from Morrowind and nobody used Morrowind default classes anyway :)

Thats more of a role play wich is something different , every rpg needs classes distinctions , this feature go dumbified more in oblivion and totally removed in Skyrim ,mostly to adapt to the playstyle of kids that did get lost in the many options to choose when creating a character but it sacrified a lot of the gameplay , immersion and actually rpg feeling.

Plus I loved the way the classes where in previous titles , and. Obody stopped you to change ur path even with a class of choice bit the class chosen could push you with ease toward a direction and make it harder to pursue another ... But still u where free to do as you liked .

Problem is that lots of the classes in Morrowind would not work in an MMO, add that you naturally could select barbarian in Morrowind and use him as an pure mage. the only downside it that you would level up slowly.
In ESO the class give you some default abilities, other comes from weapon, armor and other stuff like npc guilds.

In short if you want stealth you select nightblade.

The new dev video makes this thread obsolete.

This makes no sense because first is not a competition or a contest then the videos shows nothing about classes and only shows how all the classes are like wizards .

yea, if you drool and look the video thru , that would be the statement.

If you check the video thru with more keen eye, you would see the different classes play different playstyles almost nonstop, coz they can if they want.

so tell me, how is Too few Classes too few differences ? true ?

This whole topic states something that is not true.

I agree with the OP to be honest. All the character types are some kind of mages. Maybe just on the video, maybe all class skills do not need magik after all.

I honestly dont know why half of them had staves on, but it purely was personal preference.

Do not however think that they all look "magy" as this was simply an odd coincidence. I personally have adventured with party members wearing the heaviest of armors(helm/shoulders etc) and the largests steels, do not be fooled by what this video shows as it is only emphazising on the "world pve/bosses" such as the Dark Anchors, patrols etc not oh hey look all classes are casters.

If I was playing that Dragon Knight, personally.. wouldnt play with a staff, when the class can severely reduce the target's armor with 1 skill and use the remaining 4 slots to fill up with PHYSICAL damage abilities that amplify with less armor, but you see that's "MY" playstyle :).

Then you weren't listening to the video while you watched it because he is right, what they say in the video is the exact opposite of this thread, so it makes it obsolete. He chose to play a dragon knight using a staff because the abilities end up working well with each other and they also talk about Templar abilities working well with a bow. Both of those things mean the class you pick isn't a class it is just a set of abilities you can use, or chose not to use so yeah every class can be a mage, every class can also be a barbarian with no magic skills, or a ranger with tons of CC skills.

So this thread was just posted on a particularly bad day to try and make an opposing argument.

If one wants a pure melee build, then don't put points in spells. One does have to put any points in the class skill lines, all their points can go into swords, bows, shields, etc. There is also crafting. Class are just rather are just skill lines that no other class can get, BUT those class skill lines are completely optional to get or to use. The weapons skill lines are OUTSIDE the class skill lines.

Weapon skill line, Fighters Guild skill line, use combinations of those skill lines abilities and there you go, no magicka abilities.

Just because you use Magicka doesn't make you a "Mage."

There is no "Ranger" class in this game, but I came up with the idea that I could choose to be a Sorcerer (so I can get the Daedric Summoning tree) so I can summon two pets (because that's what Rangers do) and have a bow equipped. Sure, my pets I had to use Magicka to summon them, but most of my abilities will be coming from the bow I'm using. Does that make me a mage? Maybe, to some people out there it does, but to me it doesn't.

I think people have just a very narrow mindset that since every classes skills require magicka that means they are all mages.

This.

I mean come on guys, this thread is not only pointless.. it is unnecessary. The beauty about "The Elder Scrolls" is that the player can be anything he/she desires. If I want to make a Dragon Knight and only use my skill points into resto staves because thats how I roll, does that make me "wizardy"? keep in mind with weapon swaps you can go from exhausting your magicka pool by healing to equipping a savage two handed blade and unleash your stamina bar on your enemy. That is the beauty of your class not restricting your role. End of thread.

Well.. If you read the comments before you can see that.. "To play melee, do not put any points to class skills" -> There is no none magik class, all are some kind of casters. Maybe every class needs a tree for none magik abilities?

Probably in every mmorpg the most played class is the warrior btw.

Yep, this thread basically falls under someone who is very misinformed about the game.

This is called, "Weapon Skills."

Again, you are being very narrow-minded. Just because your class skills require Magicka, doesn't make you a "caster." Get out of this very bad mindset, folks.

Weapon skill line, Fighters Guild skill line, and as mentioned, using some magicka abilities does not equal Mage. Warriors can use magicka too.

So basically selecting class means -> If you are going to cast spells, what kind of spells you would like to cast?
