Total ATI Fix

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:16 am

I think i got a solution for the problems with ATI card, at least it works for me.

What did I do:

- Clean install of the STANDARD 11.9 drivers (not the rage performance one, they cause artifacts with AI disabled)
- Installed Ati Tray tools (i think CCC will do as well)
- Disable Cataclyst AI (I did this using the tray tools)
- Enable VSYNC
- Enable triple buffering
- Also make sure you have the 'id software/rage' folder in 'appdata/local'
- Put this (minimum) in the Rageconfig.cfg:

seta fc_maxcachememoryMB "1024"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192"
seta image_preload "1"
seta image_useCache "1"
seta vt_maxPPF "8"
seta cg_usecompression "0"
seta cg_useprecompressedtextures "0"
seta image_usecompression "0"

I only have a notebook with 2,1 ghz and a HD4570 and im playing without (noticable) texture popin and at about 25fps. So with decent graphiccards you should get a much higher value..

Im still trying to optimize the Rageconfig, but with the above way everything is very much playable and looks good.

You need to create one in your Base folder of the rage installation folder

Oh, I see, thanks!

Disabling the AI caused a decent framerate of 30-40 on my machine, but there's texture pop-ins and artefacts all over the place. Will the cfg solve them?

Yes thats whats the CFG is for. Also make sure you have the 'original' 11.9 driver, and not the performance rage one.

Also add this to the CFG file, seems to help a bit:

seta image_preload "1"
seta image_useCache "1"

Then I guess I'll have to uninstall the performance one and get the 11.9 one.

I'll come back once I do all that.

Again, thanks for the help.

I'll have to give this a try. I can't get past the main menu, so maybe it's a graphic setting that's causing this. BTW, there is a post on the Steam forums with a set of config file settings and where to put the file. I have yet to try it out.

Ok so the texture artefacts completely disappeared, there is still texture popins but like 30% less or more, however the Framerate dropped by half. How can I fix these problems?

(I'm looking for the absolute lowest video quality here :) )

It's not work with ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series. There are still textures artifacts.

By default Catalyst AI is enabled on my machine. Others have posted that disabling Catalyst AI reduces artifacts. Is there a consensus on the effect of Catalyst AI?

Everyone agrees that disabling it solves stuttering and major problems, but causes numerous artifacts.

Tho, i cannot disable it. I have no checkbox, only surface optimizations :(

This fix worked for me. With the rage performance drivers and all the settings the same, was getting missing/bad textures and still had some bad textures pop-ins. With reinstall of 11.9 drivers that is not occurring but fps are slower by at least 10, pop-in is lessened as well.

**I should note that without removing the Catalyst AI, (which I had to do by editing the profiles.xml), the game was completely unplayable with its freezing every few seconds.**

Try this. Worked for me.

first kill CCC.exe and MOM.exe processes in task manager.

Then got to C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE profiles.xml, open it with notepad, find this:

Quote:

and change "Enable" to "Disable".

save and close. Now CatalystAI should be disabled. You can start amd vision engine control center. It should be applied.

You can try with Ati Tools, it has an option to disable AI. You also can force things like Vsync that way.

VSYNC ON will stop CTDs/Black screens in combination with AI disabled.
