Really? There have been security companies using the existing in house webcam technology and remote access to provide coverage of vacant summerhouses in the south of France. Only one small step from there and we *are* there.

Yes. Western societies justice system works on the "innocent until proven quilty" principle. In USA it seem to becoming "everyone's a terrorist susoect until proven otherwise".
I've said it before, i'll say it again, that big attack was bigger success for the bad guys than they could've ever imagined.
