Traders not updating their inventory?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:50 am

There is this caravan trader right in the center of Novac and he has nothing but 4 missiles in his inventory (which I had sold to him) & its been like that for 2 weeks(real life).

Well, they've done something weird in New Vegas. In FO3, merchant's containers were generally always in the same cell as the merchant NPC. In New Vegas - they're in a hidden cell, far removed from prying eyes, that can't be reached by the player.

So the question is, what forces that particular cell to respawn every N days... or is there a script that is misfiring?

thats probarbly it then... that one cell isnt respawning like it should.

hey, could you possibly make a quickie-mod where you put the containers in the merchants cell?
then you can try to see if they respawn like they should.

i cant, since i uninstalled fallout new vegas, but its an interesting theory.

If all the merchants have their crates in one special cell then perhaps what is happening is the cell is not resetting because you need to stay away from all merchants for 72 hours? Does that make sense? Since they are all in the same cell any time you visit one merchant all the other crates get "visited" as well because one of the crates in that cell was visited. Makes sense to me but I'm sure I'm not putting it into the right words.

i dont think so... its more like youre not ever visiting the cell the crates are in (the merchants arent in the cell that the crates are in) so there might be some respawn problem because you never go there...

I'll test this today...I've got the 'some restock, some don't issue'.

As for their money, I'm actually buying a lot of stuff I don't really need off them to boost their finances....buy here, sell there type thing. I'm making enough caps from caravan and corpse robbing, so it's not an issue.

Well i was getting steady respawns of all traders before i uninstalled F:NV (today) and i used the 1-day respawn mod from the nexus... the one where BOTH vendor respawn entries were set to 1.

worked fine for me, all vendors were respawning.

try it out and see if it works for you guys that have problems with respawning.

Someone on the Nexus said that the reset internal value in the game doesn't mean "3" days, but the "3" represents the day of the week?! So, 0 = Sunday, 3 = Wednesday? He also goes on to say that there is a bug where the game resets the day of the week to Sunday every time you exit completely and re-open the game? So, if you crash a lot and/or save and exit a lot, you will never see your vendors reset because Wednesday never really arrives?! I'm going to check this out when I get home.

Maybe the guy on the Nexus doesnt know what he's talking about? lol

well in that case the 1-day respawn mod works great since it means it respanws on mondays? so only one day after you start if it resets to sunday every time you enter the game again...

I can confirm several traders not re-stocking their inventory or getting more caps. Forgot the name of the lady but she sells water at the Grub N' Gulp outside of New Vegas and she hasn't had new water in an in game month, for example. I'm starting to notice that the Robot at the Gun Runners also gets no new caps, but I haven't checked his inventory closely yet.

I have the same problem
Chet
Johnson Nash
Blake
And the dude in the Dino in Novac

They never respawn there inventory. None of them have changed at all from level 1 to 23. Far longer then a week. Well blake did cuz I did a kill/resurrect on him lol :P but ya there is definitely a scripting bug for a few traders. Gun Runners seem to work fine though

I must be one of the lucky few then, since all the merchants I have so far 'enabled' constantly restock. Of course, I have no higher-level characters so their inventories are not that good yet and their cap reserves fairly anemic. Old Lady Gibson and the Vedortron at Gun Runners do have a lot of caps at the start though (about 2K each).

Gun Runners is especially poor if you go there (as I often do) at lower levels, their stock does not really pick up until L12 when they start carrying some of the better loot. Mick & Ralph's stocks some good stuff in their default weapons inventory if you pass a relatively easy skill check, but I do not know if that replenishes at low levels.

I just got home and checked it out. I loaded up a few previous save games of mine. On one earlier save, the date is "Sunday 12.15.81" and the next save when I load it, the date is "SUNDAY 12.18.81" Hmmmmmm, interesting!

The way to get ANY merchant to respawn stock instantly is save standing next to them and exit the game.. load the save and blamo new stock.. works every time for me for chet and dino bites and several others.

Hmmm, would you look at that. Just did it with the Gun Runner robot. Saved right in front of him, exited game completely and reloaded. Boom, fresh stock. Thanks.

I can confirm that the Caravan Merchants don't restock.

All other vendors I use seem to be just fine from what I notice. At the very least, they restock their caps so I can more stuff to them. I think they're inventories are changing as well.
On the other hand, a couple vendors don't seem to be upgrading their inventories after I do some kind of quest that affects them. For example, I did the quest for the cook at Camp McCarran, and his inventory stock didn't change the way he said it would.

I can verify that Chet in Goodsprings does not restock. I mean, he still has that friggin' vault suit I sold him at the beginning of the game. I also don't think the merchant in the dinosaur at Novac restocks either. I'm running out of places to buy ammo. Hopefully someone at Obsidian/Bethesda already knows about this bug?

The Gun-Runners restock only when I level up.

well the save/load thing works... so if youre getting desperate for money, just go to a trader, save and then exit the game and when you start up again, he should be fully stocked (but hell still have the stuff you sold him tho)

Second this. Good since they dont restock for me otherwise.
Besides the bugs this game is an improvement. :brokencomputer:
