Traders not updating their inventory?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:34 am

Ive played the game for a while now, and im finding it hard to sell stuff to traders in the game since they dont seem to get new inventory or money.

I know in fallout 3 they updated on the 3rd day and then on the 4th day and then start over again. This does not appear to happen in fallout new vegas.
I looked in the geck for "merchant respawn" in the settings and i found a setting for day 1 and day 2, day 1 had a value of 0 and day 2 had a value of 3.
this might be whats messing things up.
I dont have my copy of fallout 3 any more so i cant check it in its GECK, but if someone could go into the fallout 3 GECK and check those two values to see if its those that have been messed up (seems like the most logical answer) id be very grateful.

I think some merchants have this problem in my game too but I'm not sure, it seems that every three days some merchants restock but some always have the same inventory and no new caps. Not for sure though as the main ones I use do restock after several days.

you have to stay away for 3 days of SLEEP. Waiting might also do it but sleep definetly does it and walking around or just standing about or whatever does nothing.

Must be a bug then becuase I am severa weeks into "in game time" from a lot of resting and sleeping, and I've yet to see one vendor get ANY new merchandise. It's the same old junk.

just did a test where i just waited outside the shop in goodsprings for a week (from sunday to sunday) and sure enough, that vendor had restocked.
but the one in primm and the one in novac still had the same inventory and money.

seems like some sort of bug here since i stayed away from those vendors for a whole week (just waiting outside that shop) and still nothing new.
Also, the sleep thing cant be it since the vendor in goodsprings changed inventory even tho i didnt sleep.

this is very mysterious.

Could someone just go into the Fallout 3 GECK and check those two settings in the globals?

Oddball, I had the same experience. I can't check right now due to another program taking up loads of cpu time for the next 15 hours but can you check to see that if you sleep 3 days in the same area if they reset? I slept in a custom goodsprings home and every 3 days the vendors there reset like clockwork. I tend to do this so I can get all the upgrades for my varmint rifle ;)

Im too tired to check right now, but if thats the way it works then its a big slap in the face to all those who play hardcoe mode since you'll have to get food and water for 3 days worth of just sleeping in an area...

There's definitely a bug here.

Knight Captain Torres, the BoS quartermaster, doesn't refresh after she gets the inventory upgrade for me.

Is that why none of my merchants have anything better than varmint rifles and basic leather armor? I'm level 17 now and some peeps are calling me crazy for not bein' able to get decent armor...

Compiling a very complex COD4 map on one core a clanmate sent me as his system is not powerful enough to do compiles. I am also running a single core FaH process on a second core (instead of the multicore I usually run) and a FaH GPU process.

Oh, I was kinda excited you might be NV mod making, from what I have read of your posts here you sound like a experienced modder.....well good luck with the COD4 map to bad you can't play NV for 15 hours or so though.

I created a couple of released mods back in the Morrowind days, and a few for personal use, so I have some experience with the Construction Set aka G.E.C.K., but after that I started creating maps for Quake 3 mods. I also read a lot of the tutorials on the G.E.C.K. It's not that I am experienced per se, I just know the steps to take. I am learning quite a bit more though with my current project.

well novac is a pile of poo realy so im not sure if they ARE supposed to get new stuff unless you help them get new junk to sell.

I mostly use goodsprings and new vegas with a side order of wandering merchants.

well when i tried the "wait for 7 days" thing, goodsprings had new inventory, but Primm and Novac didnt (and Primm was under NCR jurisdiction by then)
Gunrunners havent updated their stock any time ive played either.

Im starting to wonder if its 1 week from the first encounter you have (in witch case its kinda silly since its quite possible to finish the game before 2 weeks have gone by in-game)

All my merchants are restocking just fine, I just have to sleep for around 80 hours and they get a new inventory and around 1k caps. Your game must be glitched or something.

Well im not alone...
80 hours you say? thats interesting since in Oblivion the traders restocked after 72 hours but in fallout 3 they restocked after 3 days and then 4 days (on a repeating schedual)

but do you have to SLEEP for those 80 hours or is it just 80 hours in-game time where you can wander around and stuff?

I just did it outside of Mick and Ralph's around hour ago and I slept for 80 hours on a bed in the building behind the bodyguards and the guy who sold guns had restocked. I don't know if you have to sleep though, I might go test that tomorrow.
