Unofficial Alan Wake Thread

I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it's a bit repetitive. I would have liked to see more variety in the environments and enemies - 90% of the time you're fighting the same guys in the same woods.
I heard American Nightmare adds American Deserts () and giant spider enemies.

Why did no one tell me how good Alan Wake is.

Certainly one of the worst full price purchases I've ever made, it was short, repeatitive and whilst I can appreciate it trying to make actually killing a man both difficult and scary again I don't think it suceeded. The only part I actually liked was the part in the town at night, just because it was a different environment.

You obviously surround yourself with terrible people.

Well, at least you know now.

There is that.

The repeating monsters and environments don't bother me as much as they seem to everyone else.

I don't like the in-game writing (it would have been great if they could have gotten SK himself to do the manuscript and dialogue... :cryvaultboy: ) or the way that AW finds himself travelling all across this region (pourquoi? do tell) but other than that I do think it's a very good game that does its inspiration justice.

I also rather dislike the animated inanimates. Remedy could have left that particular SK "gem" out of the game.

Alan Wake was a great game. Played it and beat it on Xbox, thinking about buying it on my PC.

Is anybody experiencing the occasional CTD and LII? I've only had one or two CTDs, but about ten times now, my screen goes black and my PC locks into idling. I have to force a dirty reboot to fix the problem.

Loving the game otherwise. Remedy has well deserved my money. I love the atmosphere, the characters, even the terrible manuscript (which actually has one or two pages that aren't totally atrocious )! This is where the focus of the game lies, and righly so. The gameplay highlights these features perfectly, too.

Foes are a little bit repetitive, but that doesn't bother me too much. How many are there? I count... the shankers; the axe throwers; the axe swingers; the chainsaw dudes; the ravens; the animated objects. So, six.

As for enviro-repetition. Well, I don't know what people expect. The setting is a little town, and its environs. It's cohesive, and it makes sense. And the mundane nature of the environment underscores just how weird things get.

I don't know if it's just because I've always liked Stephen King's pulpy/folksy/charming horrors, or if it's just a great game on its own merits, but it definitely tickles all the right spots for me.

I'm done!

The ending felt a bit short
Spoiler
( and I dislike cliffhangers... )
but otherwise, great pacing.

All things considered... 85/100 or so. :) Endorsed.

Spoiler
"It's not a lake; it's an ocean."

Might pick up American Nightmare this week - my friend (who is a much bigger AW fan than I) has been raving about it all weekend.
