Unofficial Alan Wake Thread

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:26 am

Anyone else like this game?

I played it on Xbox before and just bought the collectors edition off Steam today.

I personally like the game, it's story, it's setting, and it's music (Children of the Elder God!)

I love how the game sets such a cotrast between light and dark, which is made even better on the PC version.

The Collector's Editon came with the 2 DLC that I would have normally never gotten because id have to deal with *shudder* Microsoft Points. And I'm realy hoping we see American Nightmare for PC soon.

Easily one of my favorite games of this console generation. Happy that they finally managed to release the pc version, on their own at that.

Planning on getting the pc version as well, considering my plans to build a pc this year work out.

Picked up the PC version straight away, having never played it or seen it on Xbox.

It's pretty damn good; I'm also watching through Twin Peaks at the moment, and it's got the same type of vibe. The port is really well done as well, FOV slider, full graphics options, DLC included - this is what a PC port should be.

Id have to agree, Alan Wake is only second to Halo in my book of console games. If Alan Wake had as many books and games as Halo, it would be undeniable my favorite.

I've looked at this game when it was just released, always thought it looked good but never had enough appeal for me to buy it.
How much horror/thriller based is it?
It looked to me to be a lot like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alone_in_the_Dark:_The_New_Nightmare for the PS2

Been thinking about getting this for a while, should be pretty cheap on 360 now so maybe I'll pick it up.

Only I actualy like Alan Wake, after reading the Wikipedia page it sounds like a game I wouldn't enjoy, the story sounds too cheesy to me, I mean reptilian silicon creature? I prefer my magically created possessed humans.

Also, I happen to dislike PS2, their cotroller design just is uncomfortable to me.

Kinda avoided my main point; How much horror/thriller aspects does it have, and how would you explain it to someone who's never played it?

Sorry, early morning, can't realy process things entirely until I'm actualy woken up (at about 8 am, when I should wake up while in reality I wake up almost 3 hours earlier), I complete overlooked your question.

I'm not experienced in Horror/Thriller games, so I cant real judge but I like it, It makes you jump in some parts, and it can get kinda suspensefull.

Sounds like a thriller game then, might look into some more videos before actually buying it

I love it. Played it through in nearly one sitting when I first got it for the XBox. I also won a competition from the devs when it was released and won a TON of AW merchandise. My favourite was my 'Taken do it in the Dark' tshirt. :D

I don't watching or reading spoilers, it's just adds to me wanting the game/film etc even more as I want to experience it for myself

- Just like the reason I keep reading the Walking Dead spoilers even though I'm a week behind

My family has freeview. Very few channels, but its not really an issue. I dont care about most TV.
I dont know any good sites, and am to cheap too pay for any of those sites. I will wait for the dvd.

i would likely buy the dvd anyway, like I did with breaking bad. Allthough I havent seen any of season 3 and 4, aside from random scenes on youtube.

[censored]. American nightmare released yesterday.
Why did I not know this ?

Its interesting enough for me to load up my xbox after. Just when you think you have escaped.

Allthough I hear it was more action focused. Anyone played it ? How was it ?

Yeah, I picked up the PC port this weekend, and couldn't put it down. It definitely scratched my Twin Peaks itch. Now, if only Deadly Premonition were to be ported over too.

Alan Wake is a memorable Xbox 360 game. I enjoyed the narration and story. It reminded me of a Stephen King novel turned video game.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I liked it so much. The game is directly inspired by things like Stephen King and The Twilight Zone.

Bought this pretty much as a blind purchase yesterday. I had no idea what to expect, but so far it's been more than worth the $30.

That part was indeed quite amazing on so many levels.

I am playing through right now. Great game, very fun. I love how it natively supports Eyefinity. Playing the game in the dark, with headphones, in Eyefinity is sort of frightening.

Spoiler
I am on Episode 5 right now.

I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it's a bit repetitive. I would have liked to see more variety in the environments and enemies - 90% of the time you're fighting the same guys in the same woods.
