Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread #58 w hard

CPU is ok

Video card could definitely use an upgrade, but with a 8600GT you're probably looking at low-medium settings.
I got the impression that even the slightest Video upgrade would result in a bottleneck without a new CPU, but if not... huh. I'll give it some thought.

Bottlenecking isn't a major concern except when we discuss extremes, such as GTX 580s versus an AMD X2 4200. If you want another Geforce, get a GTX 550 Ti.

You hamed a low end, low quality business graphics card, plus an onboard video chip of about half of the card's performance. Neither one is adequate for the lowest settings of Skyrim.

Okay. I tought that its probly not going to run it. Funny thing that i can run Mass effect 2, GTA, Fallouts etc. easily and Oblivion with fully modded graphics. Like i said im not pc expest but sounds weird that i can run those games with no lag and not Skyrim even on the lowest settings.

It would only be true if you quoted the name of the real card inaccurately. The HD 4350 was better than an HD 3450, but not by much at all. It wasn't designed to play games on and will fail in time, when forced to do so any great length of time. When new, they were sold for $35, then a couple of years ago, you could get ten of them for $100 when they were being surplussed off.

Officially, the game requirements are foolish meaninglessness because Bethesda ignored far more important data and concentrated on a minor aspect among a graphics card's specifications. The practical, truthful minimum is a Geforce 8600 GT from nVIDIA, or a Radeon HD 4650 from AMD.

I have a question related to graphics cards. I'm currently choosing between two nVidia GTX 560 Ti cards, one with 1GB of memory and the other with 2GB. They are both PCI-Express 2.0 with 256-bit interfaces and 384 cores. How much of a difference is 2GB memory going to make compared to the 1GB?

Hypothetically asking...If you have a PC ( i5, 6870) connected to a 720p Plasma HDTV.

Would you be able to run high end (Ultra) settings?
Would/should you get 60FPS?
Would OCing do anything?
Could you run the Texture Pack DLC?

A bit late with this.. but yes, you should be able to run with ultra settings, FPS ranging from 50 to 60 with Texture Pack...if you are careful with AA. I run the game with similar setup but 1680x1050 resolution and that 1G memory in 6870 isn't quite enough for Texture Pack, hogging 1.3G without any other mods if I use 2xMSAA, without AA the damn Texture pack still goes some odd 30M over the 1G limit on 6870
That 720p resolution should save you from the RAM problems atleast.

Makes the biggest difference when running the game at a high resolution...the 2GB will be better at maintaining fps.

Also, the 2GB VRAM can be rather beneficial with this game if you're planning to use texture packs, which can be quite VRAM hungry.

Just for clarification, what would your consider a high-resolution? 1600x900? Higher?

Higher than 1080p (1920x1080)...like 2560x1600 for example. There are other oblong resolutions in the 2K range as well that escapes me at the moment

Very stupid question, I am sure ....

But WHY is this questionline PINNED ????

Because we'd rather have this question thread sitting at the top of the subforum where everyone who is wondering about their setup can come to ask. Why? So we don't have mountains of threads asking the same thing cluttering up the forums. Sure, it may get missed by a select few who go on to create a thread anyways...but it is rather hard to miss.

What you have is a laptop with an AMD Fusion chip incorporating both the E-350 and Radeon HD 6310. Be thinking low settings with that as it is rather low-end.

That is, LOW screen resolution numbers, AND Low Image Quality settings, both.

Yet another spec quest...

Here's what I have:

HP Pavilion p6310y
AMD Athlon II x4 630
2.8 Ghz
6GB RAM
1T HD
Integrated graphics using nVidia GeForce 9100 GPU
300W PSU

I think I could play on low settings, but it's Skyrim...who wants to play on LOW?? Right now I have been playing on my PS3, but apparently the PS3 is the bastard-child of the Bethesda Skyrim production. I would really like to get it for PC and use mods.

Any help as to what I could get to better my PC/Skyrim experience would be greatly appreciated! I know I should get a better GPU/PSU, just not sure which, on either.

The chipset with a 9100 is absolute trash compared to an Xbox360 or PS3. Your frame rates would be terrible, you wouldn't see half of the effects, etc etc. You need a minimum HD 4650, and that will barely overtop the HD 6310 the other party has, so don't stop there, go beyond, to an HD 6570 or higher. Depending on how strong/weak the PSU is, you may be able to upgrade to the HD 6570 without a PSU change.

The 6310 is far better, and perhaps will outplay those consoles somewhat, but not by enough margin to be able to add one single graphical enhancement.

I'm playing skyrim on my laptop now at medium-high, but I'm looking at building a desktop to run Skyrim on Ultra with some shadow ini tweaks and a lot of mods. I am looking at an nvidia gtx 560 ti 2gb by MSI for a graphics card and an i7-2600k for the processor, with the other components built to support those (windows 7 64 bit, at least 8gb of 1600+mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM, motherboard that supports overclocking, 500+ Watt Corsair PSU). What can I expect from these components? Can the 560 ti take ultra and then some, or do I need to look at a stronger card? Would an i5-2500k be strong enough for what I want, or do I need the extra power of the 2600k? And would there be a substantial performance increase by waiting for the ivy bridge processors to come out?

Thanks!

Yes, it's going to run.... just don't don't expect the greatest performance.

Would be fine for Ultra with those specs...the GTX 560 Ti (both versions) will handle this game well at that.
