Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread #60 w hard

If the above isn't good I'd be happy to be led to a good PC at around $900 being the top of my price range.

A Radeon HD 6670 is a nice Medium Quality Gaming card. It isn't high end, and won't offer high resolutions or high Image Quality settings. It's a Medium card.

The correct message thread relating to generally comparing computers and manufacturers is in the Community Forum, here:

I'm very much an advocate to building your own PC with that kind of budget. However, if prebuilt is a must, this would be a better alternative:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229317

The thing that bugs me most about these pre-builts is that they never specify what power supply they're using, although it's likely to be some generic cheap brand. In which case, if you are to buy this, I highly suggest you replace that 600W PSU at some point....don't rely on it for the long haul.

If interested in building your own PC, come on over to the community tech topic and ask there through the link Gorath gave.

Edit...I see you already did... :P

Hey guys,

First time posting here, I must say that this is a wonderful thread. My question is about performance. Like many males my age, I tend to suffer from performance issues during regular gameplay. At first I was ashamed, but after seeing that I wasn't alone, I found the courage to speak out!

System Specs:

Windows 7 64bit
8gigs of RAM
AMD Athlon 630 II Quad Core
AMD Radeon 6870 Sapphire II 1gig (I'm unsure of the drivers.. my Catalyst Control Center is 12.6, but I think the drivers are 8.9?!)
700w Power Supply
DirectX 11
Samsung 43in Plasma HDTV connected via HDMI
1630x1050 Resolution
Graphics: Ultra/High

Most of the time I'll have a very healthy FPS that ranges from 40-60 in the wilderness/cities and a solid 60FPS in any dungeon. However, I often find that my FPS drops significantly before a battle or when loading a new cell. Sometimes it will completely freeze for a few seconds and then stutter along before regaining the normal 40-60 FPS.

I should note that I'm using a lot of mods, including several HD texture packs, some lighting mods, and several mods that add tons of NPC's and monsters. I accept that these mods will decrease performance, but it shouldn't be decreased to the point of stuttering or freezing my game. Based on what I've read in this thread, my system is more than capable of running Skyrim.

Notes:
  • My GPU makes a really loud whirring sound almost constantly when Skyrim is running. I usually don't notice the same sound if I'm playing other games (Starcraft II) or just browsing online. Is this normal, or should I be worried?
  • I tried playing at the full 1080p resolution, but found that my FPS was far too low (10-15FPS). From what I gather, I should be able to play the game fine at that resolution, no?
  • Does it matter that I'm playing on a 43in TV? It is my understanding that resolution is resolution, no matter what size the screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've spent a lot of money putting together this system for Skyrim and I'd really like to enjoy it.

Thank you kindly,

Battlefield, and 'other games' are not as demanding of video hardware as beth games are notorious for being. The game might run on that, but, don't expect good performance. You will have to experiment with resolution, and view distances to get a playable experience.

RAM:

Win 7, which most folks seem to be running these days..... wants at a minimum, 2gb of RAM to run halfway decent. Going from 2 to 4gb, will give you a very noticeable performance improvement across the board, going from 4 to 6, you may, or may not see any improvement, going from 6 to 8, you won't notice anything. Beyond that is pretty much useless unless you are doing RAM heavy work like video editing, or things of that nature. For 99% of folks, 4gb is more than adequate to the task.

That's not your VRAM, by the way.

Since that's out of the way, it should run but don't expect anything too stellar since the GPU is a bit weak.

Hi bassically idk what half of this stuff means so... will mine run it?
This is from my "system" thing on control panel;
Mannefacturer: Samsung
Rating: 4.7 windows experience index
Processor: Intel? core? i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
System type: 64-bit opperating system

its also Windows 7.
It cost £500+ so if it cant run it... well i guess i wont be playing Skyrim for PC anytime in the next 2 years
also, idgaf about high quality graphics. As long as i can play it, and i can have a go of a few mods for the first time, i'll be happy.

I'm guessing from your CPU you're on a laptop? Also what graphics card/chipset are you using? There's a program called CPU-Z which will tell you all that stuff if you're not sure.

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of upgrading to a new laptop (my current one is 2 years old) but want to see if I can squeeze some life out of this one with SKyrim. Graphics aren't all too important to me, but gettinga smooth FPS is, and I like to run a lot of mods. Here is my current rig:

i7-720QM
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 5730 1GB
Windows 7

I would love to run the civil war mod that adds 1000s of NPCs, but I realize that might be a stretch. I guess my question is, would I be able to run Skyrim on decent graphics settings with a smooth FPS?

Thanks

Although I haven't looked it up yet, my assumption would be that you will be potentially disappointed. While a 5750 and a 5770 are pretty decent, I believe that a 5730 is going to be a mundane piece, nothing special, just workaday average, not even quite as good as the desktop HD 5670 with a lesser perfpormance claimed in the numbers, save that desktops are always ahead of laptops.

Radeon HD Graphhics

There is no such APU graphic component as that. There are in fact several that are included in various AMD APUs, so which do you actually have? .

Ok, you've got a 6520.

It may run (I'm not sure how well, I don't have a clue about the APUs and stuff), but I don't think it'll give that good of performance.

I've recently treated myself to a new laptop, a Samsung RF711 and I was wondering if if was powerful enough to run Skyrim on mid to high settings.

If it runs it on par or better than my PS3 then I'll be chuffed. I'm really looking forward to all those mods :)

The specs are as follows: Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.2GHz 8GB RAM Direct X 11 GeForce GT 540M

I'm also thinking of adding a SSD drive as there's an extra bay for extended storage so I'm assuming this will improve on performance too.

Hey everyone, I'm a big TES fan and I'm going to buy Skyrim very soon, but I'm completely thrilled with all the mods out there, and so I would like to buy it for PC instead of Xbox 360. Problem is my computer is a laptop and not specially gifted for gaming, but could you please tell me if this configuration can decently run Skyrim? And also, wich graphical setting resembles the 360 version's graphics?
  • Asus
  • Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz~1.9GHz
  • 3072MB RAM
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470
I don't know if it's going to help much in running Skyrim, but I use GameBooster to enhance my computer when I play games.

Thank you and sorry for the trouble.
