Unseen visions blood scroll

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 4:09 pm

I made an account for these forums just to post here that I too am having the same problem. Everytime I try reading the blood scroll in the circle the same exact thing happens to me.
The other scroll will show the animation of me reading it and burning my eyes, but not the one that I need.

I even loaded up a save from the soul cairn before I even got the scroll and played through, but I'm still unable to read the god damned thing. Bethesda, PLEASE patch this. I didn't pay $20 for an unfinished dlc. It wouldn't be so bad, but I'm trying to finish up Dawngaurd so I don't have to deal with these [censored] vampire attacks in town and having every npc get slaughtered.

For anyone who is still following this thread, I've discovered what the issue is: Hearthfire. As far as I can tell, the only way to fix this is to uninstall Hearthfire. Having it installed will give you a "bad" copy of the scroll. I uninstalled it, and loaded to a previous save I had before fighting the undead dragon (THANK GOD) and I was able to read the scroll.

As far as I know, this is the only work-around untill it gets patched.

well thats the thing. I dont just stop playing the game because of a glitch. I do the exact opposite where I get so much other stuff done (radiant quests, other story lines, general leveling up, etc) that I dont keep old saves from "before the bug occurs". They need to patch it, and it needs to be retroactive, much like the main quest mission "a cornered rat" being bugged and not starting when turning in the previous mission and them finally fixing that so i could finish the MAIN story.

I expect the same fixes this time around. Hell, I just acquired all the werewolf perks, theres no way I'd go back to a save from 10 hours ago just because the scroll i got is "bad" if I have DLC they created together with DLC they created. This isnt the PC where the mods aren't official and plugins may conflict with each other, this is a console and this is unacceptable because unlke PC players we cant just use the "command console" and "setstage" to fix it.

This is exactly what I have done.

Indeed. I agree 100%.

Either add the option (for hardcoe players), or take immediate attention!

I'm not saying that it's ok because there is a workaround to the glitch because it's not. We shouldnt even be worrying about how to find a way around a dlc-breaking glitch like this, but as we all know bethesda doesn't usually address the issues right away. I was just letting you know the only way (i'm aware of) to work around it.

oh absolutely, myself and others are appreciative of you sharing the workaround. Its just sad that most of the people here on this forum found it not to talk about the game but to FIX the game :-(. I'm as frustrated as others are, please dont take my comments as directed towards you.

I cannot just uninstall Hearthfire. There are two other people in my household who also play Skyrim and have already done lots of work to thier homes. One of us has already completed all three homes. They are definitly unamused by the thought of fixing this glitch by uninstalling Hearthfire and loosing all of that progress. By all rights this dlc should have been fully tested with it's interaction with Dawnguard.

I am annoyed and frustrated at this expensive dlc glitch as surely we all are. I would be satisfied for now if a representive from Bethesda would respond to this post at least to acknowledge the issue and maybe give a time frame for the patch to correct this. The deafening silence from them is unnerving.

Edit: Typo's again.....

Yeah I have the same problem as you guys, I'm playing on Xbox with both DLC's installed, reloading a save is not an option for me as the amount of time I have put in since the Soul Cairn is too great (around 11 hours).

Really hope this gets fixed soon so I can carry on playing.

Also:-

I have 2 chars, if I were to delete Hearthfire from my HDD to see if it fixes the Scrolls Bug for my char that has no built house would it effect my other char with a fully built house with all my stuff stashed inside? Would I be able to re-install Hearthfire after and it would all be back to normal when loading a save back up?

If you don't load the save of the character with Hearthfire progress, it won't affect him/her in the slightest. Just be sure to reinstall it BEFORE you load his/her save! :)

Ah thats good to know, thanks for helping me out on that. Sadly reading further into this Bug it wont help unless I reload a save in Soul Cairn, not sure if its worth uninstalling Hearthfire and trying to read the Blood Scroll from where I am now, but I'm willing to try if it might work.

But like you said "if you have obtained a 'bad' scroll, you're still stuck", we're all doomed lol!

Well, I uninstalled hearthfire and started Dawnguard all over again. I got to the ancestor glade and it worked. Still not happy though having to do it ALL over again...

Is there a good chance of this being fixed anytime soon, whats the usual waiting period for a patch?

I'm not doing it all again, I'll just put it on the shelf to gather dust I suppose, it really annoys me, I pay money for DLC I can't even play, at least Borderlands 2 comes out next week....

Usual waiting period for a patch, a month or two. Usual waiting period for a patch that actually fixes your particular bug, crap shoot. and a hearty AMEN to the Borderlands 2 comment I've watched the trailer about a dozen times. I will gladly shelve Skyrim until this is patched for some "gun porm" (87 bajillion more guns lol)

This is apparently a more widespread issue than I have realized as I am having the same issue.

For all of us having this issue I would suggest emailing Bethesda support to make them aware directly of this issue! Posting on forums is great, but this way we can have a flood of email to them directly so make them take action instead of waiting for them to notice this post.

Simply go to Bethesdas website, click support, click Dawnguard, click email support and fill out the form; the more people who are effected by this who email, the more they will take notice.

Lets gets this patch!!

Done! Thanks for the suggestion, we should all do this. The forum is one thing, but the "official" channel of using their support link should definitely help. In addition, I linked to this thread in my complaint, so that should help as well.

In the mean time I'm getting Borderland 2 at midnight and probably won't look at Skyrim for two months (just in time for a patch lol)

just wanted to check back in here during my borderlands 2 break (level 20 siren ftw) to let you all know i did hear back from bethesda's support email with the following reply:

"
The issue that you are experiencing is a known issue and we are working diligently to fix it in upcoming patches. Unfortunately at this time we do not have an ETA on when the next patch will be deployed. Aside from loading a previous save file prior to reaching that point in the quest and trying again, the best thing to do at this point would be to keep an eye on our forums, as this is the best source of information for emerging issues and patch information.

best regards,
Greg A. "

So, it is what it is. Regardless of whether they post here or not, they know about it, for what it's worth.

I thought it might be hearthfire. Luckily, the house I made was basically experimental anyways so I have no objections to starting it over now that I know how it works.

Be that as it may, though, my current save is right outside the ancestor glade. Now let me make 100% certain: if I uninstall Hearthfire after already having the scroll, will the scroll work, or would I have to have a save from before I got the scroll? If I have to have not obtained the scroll at all, rather than uninstall Hearthfire I'll just tell Serana to camp at the castle and do the Companions and Civil War questlines while I wait for the next official patch. If uninstalling it will make my currently owned scrolls work, I'll just uninstall Hearthfire, do the quest and re-install it while actually knowing how to do the stuff.

If you've got a 'broken' scroll, it'll be broken either way... No point messing up your Hearthfire stuff as I tried uninstalling it and MY scroll was still broken :) Best off waiting for a patch and hoping it's not too long...

Ah, well. I only really have time to play a few hours a week, so it's fine. If I'm really quick I might be done with the Civil War by the time it's fixed.

It should be noted I'm playing this character in the order of Dawnguard->Civil War-> Companions->MQ-> future DLCs. He's my headcanon Dragonborn.
