Unseen visions blood scroll

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:27 am

Been searching the web for fixes to the quest 'unseen visions'. I get all the moths following me and walk into the the light, then when I read the scroll it shows up as a normal book, with the LS to change pages, but a blank screen. I cannot progress in the story. I reloaded the save and still had the same problem, went back to when you first acquire the scroll and tried to read it and it still shows up as just a book, no blinding effect which I should be getting. It wont even let me read the other two scrolls now, they both show as a book now, both with blank images though.

I know this is a known problem for PC with fixes, but I'm not aware of it for xbox? its annoying because I cant even progress in the story now. (I installed hearthfire today and only came across the problem today, I hadn't tried the quest before. are they linked?)

I had dowloaded Hearthfire and began working on building my new house yesterday. I was at the questline to go see Dexion to read the scroll and Serana is following me. Well she has been very patient with me and after I completed construction inside and out on my new home I decided it was time to continue along with the story. So I hopped on the fast travel bus, spoke to Dexion and began Unseen Visions. After we arrived, I proceeded to follow through on the quest and am at the point where I am to read the (Blood) Elder Scroll. So I go into my inventory, chose the scroll and nothing happens. The screen looks frozen, but if i press the Y button it jumps out of being frozen and puts me back at the Books menu in my inventory.

So it seems we have the same issue in common. I've been scouring the internet for a good hour and a half looking for a solution. Knowing that this is fairly new content I figured that I might end up becoming stuck here at least for now, and so far that is exactly what I am. The only solution I've seen is to restart the xbox, however after trying that and clearing my xbox's storage cache (just to cover all bases) well, the same thing happens anyway.

So brad and I are in the same boat. If anyone has any suggestions that might help us continue, please respond. Thank you in advance!

Edit:Typos! :bunny: and

ADDENDUM!!

So on a whim I decided to instead read the Elder Scroll (Dragon) and whoosh it worked, but it did not update the quest or anything like that. I did get the animation that I'm supposed to get with the Elder Scroll (Blood). So, I then tried Elder Scroll (Sun) to see what would happen but it hangs just like the Elder Scroll (Blood) does. I'm not sure if this information would be helpful, but thought it was at least something to note. Unfortunately I cannot think of or find anything else to try to get by this part of the quest.

Now it seems we have a third paddler in our boat! If it get's anymore crowded i'm going to have to invest in a steel helmet to ward off the blows from the swinging paddles

I have proceeded through the Dawnguard quest line on the Dawnguard side. I have reached the 'Ancestor Glade', harvested the bark, and collected 7 of 7 moth swarms.

When I approach the pillar of light, however, I can not read the 'Blood Scroll'. When I click on the scroll it brings up the screen you would see when you look at any regular book, but It does not show anything to look at, ie, the scroll. I can see whatever is in the background just fine, and the (LS) - Turn Page appears in the bottom left as usual.

I am playing on the Xbox 360, with both Dawnguard and Hearthfire DLC Packs. I did not reach the 'Ancestor Glade' until I -ALREADY- started the Hearthfire quest, at 'Heljarchen Hall'. The home is not 100% complete. It is completely built, and near completely furnished. I do not know if this would have any impact on my issue. I figured I should mention this fact.

I have read on a few other forums that other people are also having this issue. The only problem I am having is that nobody seems to be responding to the posts. If somebody has any insight into this issue, I would be eternally grateful. I am locked within the 'Ancestor Glade'.

If it is a known PC issue, you developers should be able to more than fix the issue. Please take attention to this. I did not pay 1,600msp for Dawnguard and an additional 400msp for Hearthfire for there to be such a critical error. When we pay msp we are donating to your company. I only see it fitting that you help us in return.

I can not even proceed through the Dawnguard quest line because of this. I, and the many above me all seem to be experiencing similar issues. Do the right thing, Bethesda. PLEASE!

EDIT: If it turns out I am unable to continue this quest using this profile, I will be quite upset. Unlike the tools who employ the use of multiple profiles; I use one. I have invested quite a bit of time into him too.

For now, I will continue the million side quests I have accumulated over the countless hours of gameplay. Maybe something I do will trigger a fix and correct the bug. Maybe not. I will try again after I complete some quests. I will also be keeping my eye on this thread.

Same problem, quite frustrating. Just got this and now I can't play it? And I can't get my money back... I've tried reloading, going back to previous saves, and even started dawnguard over, but nothing. A waste...

It is exactly that: A waste. Bethesda, take notice of this. I am ready to right give up your company's games and go read Hunger Games instead. Not saying that the books are better than these games, just saying that it would probably be more fun than not being able to play Dawnguard.

Well, I have a broken game I cannot play. Microsoft will not refund my money, so what do I do? No help from Beth either. What a pathetic joke for 1600 msp.
And if ur gonna read a book, read 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series, it's EPIC.

Same here.

I have two characters, the first of which stayed wolfy and went with the Dawnguard types... at which point Dexion went nuts and kept attacking everyone in Fort Dawnguard, so I deleted Dawnguard, reloaded my save (placing me at Riverwood), re-saved, reinstalled Dawnguard and started from scratch. THAT was annoying, but I was near the start anyway. (although I've never had Hircine Totem quests from The Companions, so I'm a fully upgraded werewolf who can only scare people) 9.9

This time my other character goes vampire and joins Harkon's bunch of wannabe miscreants, he's done loads of side-quests and a few parts of the main game (as he wasn't as far into it as my first character). I tried deleting Dawnguard and re-downloading it (without loading my save inbetween, as I do NOT want to lose that much progress!) but it made no difference, the Blood and Sun scrolls are still useless :(

*EDIT* I also have the Hearthfire DLC, but all I've done is get a childs room in Breezehome and adopted kids. Not done any 'quests' from it yet, if that helps or makes any difference ;)

Thank you, Toroka. I was almost ready to find a save from before I started Dawnguard, and join up with the Vampires.

Deleting Dawnguard and reloading will remove all dawnguard progress and items (including any Dragonbone weapons you made/found) but keep any progress you'd made in the main Skyrim quests. Saving and then reinstalling Dawnguard will totally reset any progress you had made in the Dawnguard quests. You'll still be starting Dawnguard stuff from scratch, but won't have lost any NON-Dawnguard progress you'd made.

So if you're near the start of Dawnguard (or don't mind re-doing quite a few quests) it's a good 'fix', though no guarantee you won't get the same (or other!) bugs when you carry on... I think the BEST plan (which I failed ot adhere to) is keep a LOT of saves :(

Saves? I agree. I usually keep the passed two or so weeks in the cache. Just in case I ever need to go back for such an instance.

Thanks again.

I just joined the forum today because ive been having this same problem. I had been playing through the dawnguard quests with no problem until i stopped to build a house because i had bought hearthfire and then once i had finished building i decided to continue on with the dawnguard quests which meant going to this glade, collecting the tree bark and moths then standing in the light to read the blood scroll which just freezes the game. It doesnt totally freeze because i can exit from what appears to be a frozen screen back into my items menu but i never get an animation for reading either the blood or sun scrolls.

I tried to do it from earlier save points but it still wont open the scrolls and i even deleted and re-downloaded Dawnguard but it still made no difference. I hope Bethesda fix this soon because im not paying the best part of £50 for a game that doesnt work.

It appears that this part of Dawnguard doesnt work while Hearthfire is installed. I'm having the same issue. I'd try uninstalling Hearthfire but I've 100% completed my first house...

I'll give that a try (as I've done practically nothing in Hearthfire yet)... Should be able to confirm if this helps or not in an hour or so (the dog wants a walk and he has priority) ;)

Remind me... Is the Soul Cairn where you got the Blood Scroll? (I guess it MUST be the one from Sera's mum)

I removed Hearthfire and reloaded, headed to Ancestor's Grove and I still get the same problem, made a new save there (as I'd wandered from there to do other things). Restarted the Xbox (in case that made some amazing difference) and loaded up again with the new save (7/7 moths, stood near the pillar of light) and still no joy :/

So it seems if you have obtained a 'bad' scroll, you're still stuck. But if you have a save before getting the Blood Scroll, the above quoted may well work for you...

I removed hearthfire and loaded the save i had from before the fight with the dragon in the bone yard of the soul cairn (right before you get the blood scroll) and it has worked. Im now onto the next quest to find the bow and im able to open the scrolls without the game freezing or a normal book appearing. Im not going to re-download Hearthfire until im finished with Dawnguard so theres no other problems.

Yeah, the vampires svck
...
*Gets coat*

I agree though. I did a Dawnguard restart on my main dude (thiefy assassin type) so there's NO WAY I'm going through it all again on my Mage-vamp guy :ermm:
Kinda ruined the first (well, and second I suppose!) playthrough, as I no longer gave a ... monkey's about anything but the MAIN questline on the restart (still no idea if the crossbows go above Dwarven). So I'll wait for a patch and then try it again.

Some kind of official response would be good though :ermm: Even a "We're aware of this problem and will look into it at some point" would be great at this point

See here, like many of you; I have only one account. This means I do not have alternative paths to take to avoid these sorts of errors. Now many people might say use a test account. To me, this is irrational.

There is no active enjoyment in having to chisel down the game so that you know its mechanics, simply to avoid catastrophic incidences like these.

My character is a Level 67 Heavy Armour Specialist (Maxed). I have also maxed my proficiency with the Bow, Smithing, and Enchanting. I have lived him through legitamite means and experienced all of the Skyrim experience, thus far, through his perspective. Until there comes a time where I am physically unable to find any more quests, I will not quit on him! I have put far too much into him and had a lot of fun along the way. He should be able to proceed through the entire game as intended. Including the additional content I purchased to add to the already existing content that I had -also- purchased.

You can expect me to boycott (over YouTube!) the release of ANY NEW CONTENT until the current content is completely fixed, ergo, playable. Unless of course, Bethesda decides to -actually- read their own forums. In the http://www.gamesas.com/forum/198-xbox-360-hardware-and-software-support/ section, may I remind you.

Just wanted to chime in that i'm having the same issue. I actually bought dawnguard a couple days before hearthfire came out so I had been playing through that and then stopped to build my Lakeview Manor house. Once I perfected that the way i wanted, i moved all of my stuff there (alchemy ingredients, armor, weapons for the armory, everything). then i went back to the dawnguard story and lo and behold, nothing happens when you read the scroll during unseen visions.

I am a level 67 high elf with a 252hour game save and I am NOT moving all of my stuff back out of my new house and uninstalling hearthfire. I paid for it and I'm enjoying it (children and all). This seems like something that is clearly a bug when both DLC's are installed so it should be patched. Hopefully soon. Other than not being able to progress and finish the storyline, Serrana wont let me part ways so she's a constant follower now. Incredibly annoying when i want to level up block or light armor and she kills the enemies i was using to level. She also gets in the way a lot with friendly fire and ends up attacking me. I constantly have to tell her to "wait here" so shes out of the way but she eventually shows up again if I fast travel enough. If I could finish this quest, I'm sure I could leave her.
