1.8 UpdateDragonborn DLC discussion thread #44

The first dragon it shows the one he is mounting looks very weird.

Yeah, it wasn't scaly. Maybe these are an inferior breed? That would shut the mouths of some people I bet.

Eh, I liked the Isles for the loot.

Amber armor on my Khajiit was sweet, oh and Flesh Atronachs.
The world and the creatures were good, the story is the only thing that was lacking.

Alright, apparently everything I can think of right here, right now as I'm watching the trailer for the first time(s), has been said before, a million times, but I don't care. Just letting out some thoughts. And no, I don't have time to read the ~8 threads that I just missed.

- A playable boatride to Solstheim, or at least a graphic of the ride? Yay!
- What does Bromjunaar Sanctuary (and thus Konahrik?) have to do with this DLC? Hmmh...
- Is the old Nord actually the narrator of the trailer? Looks like a Skaal Shaman to me, or something.
- The Telvanni VILLAGE?! Not only a tower? Oh my f'n god! Looks soooo much like Morrowind! Nice views inside the tower as well. (And a clever system to get up to it that doesn't require levitating - that comes later in the video.) Also, Bull Netch? And the climate on the outside looks very much like Morrowind's. I wonder if... Nah.
- Forth X-moth looks nice as well.
- At 0:37, is it an actual arena?! Damn I'm all hyped up already!
- So, is the book thing with green substance/tantacle the way to access the Apocrypha? Or are we already inside the Apocrypha?
- I guess the next view, with leaves of the books flying around and those strange tentacle-like things moving there, has to be (a part of) what it will look like in the Apocrypha. There's also some Telvanni-vibes to it, or is it just me?
- Generally some nice views, and then the obligatory dragon mounting thing to make kids go "Wow!".
- Explosion, new monsters... looking cool. Is the one at 1:02 a Bentic Lurker? Somehow reminds me of Ascended Sleepers.
- "He was the first... Dragonborn", as in, the first-first? Kinda long-lived... Who was the first DB in the lore? But anyways, I guess killing this guy, whether he was the first or just the previous one before us, only makes us "the last dragonborn" towards whom the wheel will turn.

I thought it was clear that the promo pick guy is another dragonborn and a dragon priest (although he's said to be a former dragon priest, not anymore -- possibly makes him a HM priest [possibly gone rogue] or something that's been speculated a lot, or just a random dragon killer with his own goals). But his mask still has the same shape as those certain Falmer masks. Oh well, these things either have or haven't got anything to do with each other...

Just a few trails of thought. Again, surely all said million times...

EDIT: What is surprising to me is all the missing underwater footage we thought is going to be there. Either it's not there yet (and/or doesn't yet work) or we won't get it after all. Shame; I was already picturing this Atlas-like entrance to Apocrypha something like 14 threads ago.

Where the rieklings throwing spears? I think that's what I saw in the pictures and video.

Reminds me of the LotR films' depiction of the nazgul mounts:

Maybe it's some kind of sea dragon.

Does anyone know if the Spears are available to you from the start through smithing?

So, guessing the Redoran city is Raven Rock. What other Imperial-style fort is there on Solstheim? Love that around the 47 second mark, we evidentally see the interior of the Telvanni tower. Levitation without a levitation spell. Eeeenteresting....

Also looks like the Rieklings have spears and ride tusked bristlebacks. So spears are pretty self-explanatory, but the bristlebacks? Could be that NPCs finally have mounted combat too. Either that, or it's done Bloodmoon-style, and they're the same creature.

Some wierd new vomiting Falmer at the 57 second mark, too. Thought I saw a Dawnguard-style Falmer ruin near the beginning, too. Man, the Nerevarine really didn't do a good job exploring, did he?

Blue armour at 1:05. Must be Stalhrim.

I didn't even register that as Apocrypha, it was over so quickly. But cool, Lovecraftian Daedra. Cool cool cool.

For those worrying about how close Red Mountain looks, remember that bigger things often look closer. And Red Mountain is supposed to be absolutely gigantic.

Some wierd new vomiting Falmer at the 57 second mark, too.
I think that's actually one of Hoermius Mora's minions. Anything tentacly or bookish is usually his doing. Our alternative dragonborn appears to have a very tentacly mask too, so it's possible they are in league somehow.

Mora likes the cold, doesn't he? Up in the Jerralls in Oblivion, out on the pack ice in Skyrim, and now Solstheim?

- A playable boatride to Solstheim, or at least a graphic of the ride? Yay!

I hope this is the case, rather than just another loading screen.. would be cool to see the scenery from afar for sure.

- What does Bromjunaar Sanctuary (and thus Konahrik?) have to do with this DLC? Hmmh...

Probably because the guy was a Dragon Priest in general.. whether or not he was part of the Skyrim cult, who knows.

- Is the old Nord actually the narrator of the trailer? Looks like a Skaal Shaman to me, or something.

Most likely he is, and we'll probably meet the guy in game along with having interesting dialogue with him.

- The Telvanni VILLAGE?! Not only a tower? Oh my f'n god! Looks soooo much like Morrowind! Nice views inside the tower as well. (And a clever system to get up to it that doesn't require levitating - that comes later in the video.)

It will be very cool to experience the DLC content in general since I started TES with Oblivion.. sometimes I really wish I played Morrowind :(.

- At 0:37, is it an actual arena?! Damn I'm all hyped up already!

Being close to Red Mountain will be equally satisfying .

- So, is the book thing with green substance/tantacle the way to access the Apocrypha? Or are we already inside the Apocrypha?

I really hope to go enter Mora's realm (though I picture a portal like with the other realms) since I've always liked that he's a god of knowledge and all.

- Explosion, new monsters... looking cool. Is the one at 1:02 a Bentic Lurker? Somehow reminds me of Ascended Sleepers.

Those new monsters look really cool.. and will hopefully provide a good challenge.

- "He was the first... Dragonborn", as in, the first-first? Kinda long-lived... Who was the first DB in the lore? But anyways, I guess killing this guy, whether he was the first or just the previous one before us, only makes us "the last dragonborn" towards whom the wheel will turn.

That's kind of how I figured it too, him being the first and all.. but I hope we can get to find out his backstory (I'm assuming we will) so that we can get a deeper understanding of the Dragonborn in general (as I've stated before).

Thanks for the comments! Only one thing to comment really: not necessarily "he." Could be her too, since the first DB according to UESPWiki was Queen Alessia. And why not it could be her even if it wasn't Alessia? I guess the clothing and mask are more masculine than feminine and divert people to think that it's a him, without a question. (Edit: Yeah, well, except the word "he" in the trailer, DUH!! But how would the Skaal Shaman(?) guy know if "he" hasn't been around for a long time, at least without a mask? Nah, you know, let's just stick with him being a he. <_<)

Btw, during which thread was the video announced? I'd like to look at some of the freshest speculations (if all the posts weren't just "AAARGH I can't wait!1").

Okay okay, how did Solstheim get a Dwemer ruin all of a sudden? Just off the coast? Did it rise from the sea?

Also those small shrines being constructed - wonder if they're around the stones from the Ritual of the Gifts?
