Well i liked pre-war money id horde it up in mass amounts i just wish it was alittle bit more visible so i could see the 100s and bill printing but id like to be able to carry suitcases and such and fill them with money or legion coins but to answer your question i doubt it. Some of the stuff may be used for things but i highly doubt that all of that stuff will be used.

It's common for most if not all RPG's, cRPG's to have items which are just vendor junk aka there to be sold to vendors to get your character a smidgeon aka some cash or for batering to get things which are of more use to your character.
If there wasn't any junk like that some people would complain that it detracts from the games 'realism', as in you would expect there to be old pots, pans, knives, forks and other such stuff lying around mainly because it wouldn't have been looted by the populace yet due to being so common beforehand.

Since we can cook food now, I imagine that some pots and utensils will be usable.

Like Stubs said, it's part of the atmosphere. It's great, and it helps to make the world feel better. Also, I don't mind having stuff around to stow or put around my house.

Why not be able to smoke cigaretts and have an addiction to them. There are already drugs and alcohol to use that have benifits that develop into addiction. Besides smoking would look cool in third person just hanging out somewere or killing bad guys. I thinking Clint Eastwood style The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

You should be able to smoke and become addicted to them. The affect should be some added Charisma in exchange for a drop in AP or Endurance, which you could consider to be a drop in "Stamina" due to tar clogged lungs.

But, all that junk did have a singular good purpose. Killing Super Mutants and Raiders with projectile Garden Gnomes. I laughed my ass off when I perfectly decapitated a Raider with a flying plate from the Rock-it-Launcher. It was just too perfect.

For requiring 7 inteligence to post here i was surprised that the OPs post was full of misspellings and could barely understand what was being said.

On Topic

All the extra stuff is there for a reason, either to gain extra money if your barter is high or for people interested in making Machinimas. Also people who play on the PC can use the GECK to make weapons from components that aren't normally used on the workbench.

I doubt it, they're worth too many bottlecaps. But you never know, and they can also reduce their worthiness I suppose.

Alot of that 'useless' stuff was infact being used for setting the feel. How lame would the game have been without all of the random crap laying around? It would not have been nearly as immersive. So it wasnt doing nothing at all.

I would love to see some of them becoming useful. IE, if you have a fork in your inventory, you can stab an NPC in the eye with it. Comedic effect, really. Nobody with a sense of humor could avoid at laughing while watching an NPC wildly flail around a bar with a fork jammed in their eye.

Maybe even be able to do the magical disappearing pencil trick The Joker used in the latest batman movie?

They might have left these weapons out because they don't want to upset Valve. Valve has both as weapons, the Bonesaw being a weapon for the Medic in TF2 and the Frying Pan a weapon in L4D2. Now I don't think Valve is terribly sue-happy, but in this day and age you just can't risk it if you're in the IP business.

Honestly I would have loved a frying pan as a melee weapon. They make the most satisfying 'clang' when they hit something.

Yes, because Valve owns the only right to use frying pans and bonesaws as weapons in their games.

Valve couldn't do anything if Bethesda or Obsidian used a frying pan or a bonesaw as a weapon since they are real-world items that hold no copyright. People may think that they got the idea from Valve, but there's nothing Valve can do about it. It's just like Nuka Cola. It's an obvious pun on Coca Cola, but Coke cannot sue Bethesda for that since it's parody. If they just plain called it Coca Cola instead, then they could.

In an ideal world you'd be right, and I agree with your sentiment. But this is America. People sue over the stupidest of reasons, whether or not they actually have a legal leg to stand on, and often win these cases. It's best not to risk it at all. And with the copyright laws as screwed up as they are I'm sure if Valve wanted to they could twist it in some manner and make it stick, as again lawsuits seem to go in favor of the person that filed them regardless of whether or not they're a legit claim these days.

Just between us I think Valve would be more flattered than sue-happy if Bethesda were to make the frying pan and bonesaw weapons in New Vegas as a reference.

Same here.

Yes I hope there is plenty of debris items. That stuff makes explosions look better, and can be used to add that 'lived in' atmosphere to areas that otherwise look sterile (or worse ~"faux dirty")

Even though I agree and KNOW some very stupid lawsuit cases where people sue because they lacked common sense, America isn't stupid. I've seen cases where a woman won because she spilled hot coffee and burned herself, and one where a woman walked away from the wheel of an RV and crashed and still won, but Valve wouldn't even be able to make it to the courtroom by suing Bethesda for using a frying pan as a weapon in their game.

Valve could however threaten to not allow Bethesda's products to be sold on Steam, which is the biggest market for PC gamers in the world.

They couldn't sue for using a real world, non-copyrighted item as a weapon in their game.

Now you're just making stuff up.

In any legal system, there will always be odd cases where the rulings don't make sense, and with a population of 300+ millions, there's bound to be quite a few of those. But the fact of the matter is, unreasonable lawsuits will generally be thrown out, the only ones you hear about are the most absurd one's to make it. As a rule, stupid lawsuits do NOT make it far in the legal system, and the system is not biased in favour of the person filing the suit.

If the pan had a Valve logo on it or some very distinguishing marks that's one thing, but they could never win for just using a frying pan or bone saw ~(or even both)

If this could float... we'd see Xatrix entertainment suing Valve.
(for having a crowbar as a fallback weapon)
