yea def using less vats, not by choice, havn't played long but it seems pretty worthless thus far, i can understand not pulling crit head shots every time but my characters barely landed any shot using it, with trigger disp, gun skill of 20 and crouched.

and the iron sights def take up way too much of the screen

I'm also not sure what the appeal behind iron sights is anyway because a lot of the guns, handguns especially have no actual aiming involved. You simply hold up the gun in the middle of the screen and it actually obscures your target. You simply block your target, fire and hope it its...and it usually does. How is that realistic in any way?

You asked, "How is that realistic in any way?"

Wow. You have never fired a real gun in your life, have you?

The iron-sights method is damn-near spot-on in this game. If anything, it's too forgiving with your accuracy. You might want to learn a little about (SAFETY FIRST!) firearms and ballistics.

I think you can actually die now while in VATS mode in NV.....

This.

You can still be a "beast" while using VATS, but you have to bump up the right attributes/perks. The VATS system is much more realistic in the fact that you can take damage during VATS. I was shooting at some Powder Gangers last night and I saw the dynamite coming at me in VATS and was like OH **** and then proceeded to watch my body separate in pieces. UGH this game is crack.

True, but it is admittedly a realistic depiction. I've found I don't use VATS unless I can't see them enough to use the iron sights.

Is it just me, or does it feel a LOT like the Borderlands sights in general?

I actually turned the cinematic kills off. I loved it in VATS when I was playing FO3 but with NV I use the iron sights a ton more than VATS. I felt that the cinematic kills sort of disrupted the flow of my game and I was very happy that Obsidian gave the user the choice to turn it off.

My total VATS use has probably gone down about 80%

My main issue with VATS in FO3 was that you seemed to be invincible while in that mode. Working as Intended?

You WERE invincible, or at least nearly, and yes, it's exactly as intended. Because you have absolutely no control over your character when using VATS, and Bethesda (rightly, I'd say.) thought that players would not want to be constantly dying when using VATS because their character just stands in place out in the open and they have no way to change this when using VATS.

It seems to me that making the player still vulnerable when using VATS would make it entirely worthless, if I wanted my character to stand around making no effort to defend himself while enemies shoot at him, I'd play one of the original turn-based Fallout games (And I am in fact quite fine with that aspect of turn-based combat, mainly because it works both ways. But in real time combat, if it's possible for my character to be harmed than I SHOULD BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO THESE THREATS.)

Still, I can't blame Obsidian for trying to make VATS somewhat less powerful, as it could be a little overpowering in Fallout 3, I just fear that they could have gone too far in the other direction and made it so there's absolutely no reason to use it, since I haven't been able to play the game yet, I can't say for sure what it's like.
