Vampire lord Vs Werewolf

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 6:03 pm

Before I get in to this I want everyone to know that this is all my opinion and I am not saying that everyone should think this way.

I've been playing the Dawnguard DLC for a while now. I've done the main story three times and parts of it more than that. However no matter how many times I play as a vampire lord I never feel as powerful as I do as a werewolf. I know that you do get more health as a vampire lord and you have more abilities, ever though you many attack ( life drain) is really weak, I still feel more powerful as a Werewolf. Maybe it's because I'm not that big of a spell guy but when even I see my werewolf make an enemy go flying and then slash at them while their face is on the ground I just fill so powerful. Also summoning 2 werewolves is way better than summoning 2 gargoyles. I also found it easier to kill Harkin as a werewolf even on Master.
Tell me what you guy think do you like the Vampire Lords or Werewolves with this DLC?
On a side note at one point a dragon appeared in DawnStar and a guard said, "Vampire! Everyone get in doors!" just thought that was funny.

Another thing is it feels a lot cooler having a hot vampire chick fighting with me while I'm a werewolf. Yes I do like the Underworld movies.

Did you know having serana as a follower nerfs the damage on the vampire lord? Its a bug that maybe the reason why you don't feel strong.

I recently maxed out the perk trees for both and I have to say..

While the upgrades to the already existing totems are cool for the werewolf they are pretty much useless excluding the summon two spirit werewolves but they scale to the difficulty you are playing so they'll be tough if you have it on master but if you have it on adept or lower they'll die pretty fast.

Vampire Lord has way too many things going for it granted its only truly dominant at night though with the right magic items such as the artifacts it can dominate during the day, I mean mist form/bats for getting out of a bind, corpse curse and vampiric grip to paralyze enemies and fling them across the map..great crowd control for those playing on a higher difficulty and it works on almost any character in the game if not every character but dragons and possibly giants but I'm not sure about the giants part, I know it works on the random enemy werewolves, I flung one off a cliff and it died from fall damage. =P

Only real negative of the Vampire Lord is of course..its only extremely dominant at night where you regen everything a lot faster than you do during the day even with the artifacts.

A lot more negatives on the werewolf side, they dropped the ball with its perk tree..just a lot of useless totem upgrades, only useful perks are the 5 levels of the first one and the savage feeding so it makes leveling it all up faster.

Comparing the two is really unfair as I've said since Vampire Lord seems like Bethesda put a lot of time into and then they realized that since they were giving Vampires something they had to give Werewolves something, in essence it was tacked on.

Yeah I don't use anything but the totem of the moon because I already know where my enemies are and 50% of the time they will flee from me with out the fear one. Yeah vampiric grip is fun but unless you on an elivated area it doesn't do much and the corpse cures is fun too but if you think about it the charge attack on the werewolf is both of those combined, it throws them in to the air and then it takes a while for them to get up, longer than it does when you use vampiric grip. And yeah those make you feel some what like a Jedi but nothing can out match the super pimp hand of death from a werewolf. Also the charge attack still staggers the really big enemies like dragons and mammoths which vampiric grip does nothing to and corpse cured doesn't work on dragons ether. That's another thing I find it easier to fight dragons as a werewolf too the speed helps alot and the ability to stagger them, not to mention the other 2 werewolves on my side. When I'm fighting them as a vampire lord I'm always getting hit, which is really bad when they have fire breath, and I end up using mist form and that doesn't even last long enough to help. The gargoyles also die as soon as the dragon sees them.

Also I'm not seeing any drawbacks about being a werewolf the only ones I can think of is not being able to turn when ever you want to, which can be fixed with the ring of Hersing, and having silver weapons do more damage but I'm my opinion thats good because is makes you resistant to everything else. Yeah some of the perks aren't that good but all the rest are. You can summon two werewol, you can gain a very large amount of health by feeding on any creacture, and your attack are even more Bad A. So yeah those other to perks are bad but there are more good one then bad. In my opinion one of the drawbacks about being a Vampire Lord is the fack that you have some many abilities a lot of them do the same job if not a really similar one. You only end up using 2 or 3, like me gargoyles and vampiric grip, some times mist form if I'm in a hairy situation. I also loose magica really fast probably because my main attach uses a lot of it with less results.

If werewolves weren't limited to transformations, they'd be alot better. Seriously, to equip ring of hircine ability and ring can get quite annoying.

Sounds better for us Werewolves then. My only complaint would be the totem of the predator thing, I saw it on youtube to spoil myself and it seems pretty useless without our werewolf having a sneak mode, also would love for it to be able to move fast in sneak mode. Would be nice if they gave us a sneak attack with the animation and everything.

Would really help in that area a lot. Another thing, about random werewolf encounters... Do they attack us or help us even in human form? That would be dope.

They really need to stop thinking about how everything looks and concentrate on these roleplaying mechanics and storyline.

I love this game and all for starting me out on RPG's, but ever since I started playing the Fallouts... It's been really really hard trying to get back into skyrim.

Honestly, I think they both are kind of bad. They have very limited usefulness (outdoors and in the open), and they die much quicker than my regular character. Their abilities don't scale which means they end up being trash (VL raise dead spell is a joke). The transformations are pretty much useless in my opinion.

Transformations useless? Same problem with the vanilla version is still prevalent? Could've sworn this would've been fixed.

That's good If you like being a werewolf. I do not and am perfectly happy with the vampire lords powers. Plus I have no interest in Serena so my power is not lowered. I also disagree being very much a magic person I feel very powerful as a vampire lord.

Maybe I'm a noob and don't know how to use werewolf correctly but i seem to be stuck as a werewolf until it ends on its own and i can only change once a day where with vampirism i can change back and forth as much as i want. That is the main reason i prefer being a vampire.

Been playing Vampire Lord for some time now, and the best I can say about werewolves is that they are easier to level (unlocking perks). Although VL is weaker in close range, it just has so much more gimmicks to control any fight. If the female version wouldn't look so hideous I wouldn't play anything else.

To each his own I suppose. I like playing as both a werewolf and a vampire lord. I tried playing them both on master and they're still pretty viable.

Like Faulgor pointed out, the female version of the VL looks in my opinion like an aged woman and thus not very "cool looking" compared to the male version. But I've made the decision that my lady's going to be a vampire and now I have to live with it.

OT: I haven't maxed out my VL yet but I did my werewolf and at the moment I prefer the werewolf over my VL because he seems to be more powerful and I just love to run up to my target and throw him a few metres and then slash him to death
PS: Playing on master difficulty with both characters.

The Vampire Lord just has so much more utility and access to basically spammable versions of Whirlwind Sprint, Become Etheral, Slow Time and Aura Whisper.

I also find it very fun flinging enemies off cliffs, etc with the grip.

I am more a fan of werewolf...I think it is a bit faster and quicker, also you are resistant to diseases....afcourse vampire lord has more magic skills and is easier to control it and you can summon gargoyles and undead...but you also need to feed regularly and mostly avoid the sun...

With a mod that gives certain creatures an actual Armor Rating (Like Dragons), you'll see Werewolves do less damage than Vampire Lords (Assuming you don't have Seranna with you).
I have the "Deadly Dragons" mod installed, and i'm facing against Aspects of Alduin and Bone Dragons that have 525 Armor Rating, which is 63% Physical Damage Reduction. When my Nord Warrior goes up against them in Werewolf Form (Which isn't advised with such high lvl Dragons on Master Setting with the mod on Master Difficulty, DD Dragons put the new "Legendary Dragons" to shame), he does less damage to them with his Claws (He's fully perked in WW Tree) than my Argonian Mage does to them with Drain Life in VL Form, and they have 33% Magic Resist.
